Sitemaps

Good afternoon Vincent,

I hope you have been doing well since you last spoke with Alan.

My name is Ryan Hoch and my role here in Diocesan's Web Department is as a Content Specialist. This means, that in addition to going over what areas of your current website are staying or going, I also help you find the most effective way to layout your website. This not only helps us build you a website that is easier to edit and manage but also allows anyone visiting your website to accurately and consistently find the information for which they are looking.

Below are links to a Google document of your proposed sitemap. The proposed sitemap is what we suggest for your menu based on our previous experience and what would work best in terms of usability. The proposed sitemap is created to optimize the flow and look of your site.

You can edit the proposed sitemap however you would like, adding pages, removing pages, etc. The proposed sitemap will act as a guide for the content migration process. Please edit the document directly to ensure that the same edits stay throughout all versions and that the content migration process is accurate. Also attached below is a quick how to video on understanding how a sitemap is organized. I am available to meet via Google Meet to clear up any questions you may have as well, just reach out and let me know by replying to this thread.

Thank you for choosing Diocesan and we are very excited to begin creating you a new website.

Dear Ryan,

Thanks for your email. I’m not sure if you were in the loop on the prior discussions, but this website is for a specific ministry and not a parish. Would it be easier to have a phone call or zoom meeting to discuss, but the outline you sent is too complicated for my project. This is not a replacement of the St. Catherine site, but rather my own personal independent website.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

Blessings,
Vincent

There are several websites that might influence what we are working on:

1) St. Catherine Church website, specifically the RCIA page (which has some of the content I'm looking at to post): http://www.stcatherineop.com/becoming-catholic
This is the page I maintain, but did not build. The logo for the new website is on the top of the various .pdf documents found on that page.

2) The beta site that I had worked on a little bit and let drop. Larger perspective than the current project I am looking for your help with, but maybe finding a way to tie the two together or cross pollinate. Evangelizing Parish – Encounter Jesus in Your Church<http://evangelizingparish.org/>

3) My essays on some of this has been published by Notre Dame over the years (and I am awaiting publication of the most recent one). They publish articles daily on a variety of topics, so my website would have more file folders. They have a lot of creative commons images framing their articles. 4) Here is the guy I was talking about as doing similar work to what I am doing. His website is boring and not easy to navigate. No color at all. The Religion Teacher | Catholic Religious Education<https://www.thereligionteacher.com/>
His worksheets are geared more to children, I would be working to giving resources for adults.
The Religion Teacher | Catholic Religious Education
Practical resources and effective teaching strategies for religion educators in schools and parishes.

5) This is another group that has been working at this for a long while with a good following. They have a staff working on their website and creating content. I do think they over accentuate themselves more than their material, like the full size picture of them on their home page. https://teamrcia.com/home/

6) This is another person who I think does good stuff and is creating content well. He is starting to create videos of similar content that I am creating. https://breakinginthehabit.org/
His materials working toward my work, but he's not posting the videos on his website, only his YouTube channel: https://breakinginthehabit.org/2020/09/07/new-series-kerygma/

7) Another self-starter with similar resources. I am approaching what I am doing from a different angle. Again a very basic page and not very attractive, but lots of content: Look to Him and be Radiant<https://www.looktohimandberadiant.com/>

8) These are the people with the big money right now that lots of people visit in the Catholic world that are the audience that my audience is trying to reach. I would like to reach some of them as well:

“We also have to give greater thought to ways of incarnating the kerygma in the language of today” (Pope Francis, Christus Vivit, 211).

“We have rediscovered the fundamental role of the first announcement or kerygma, which needs to be the center of all evangelizing activity and all efforts at Church renewal” (Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium, 164).

“I invite you to continue to pray and to think creatively about a catechesis centered on the kerygma, which looks to the future of our communities, so that they may be ever more rooted in the Gospel, as fraternal and inclusive communities. ” (Pope Francis, Address to National Catechetical Office of the Italian Episcopal Conference, 01/30/2021).
