Ultimately, this should pull in both posts and pages with the "news" category. Hopefully this won't be too difficult (especially in light of the fact that I am pulling in both for the Parish News slider on the homepage).

I've built out a custom category display both generally and to pull in posts and pages that have the category News.

I may need to rebuild part of this (à la stage 2) to account for all categories, but for now, it only does the broader query for posts & pages for "News." This is faster and uses fewer server resources, but I could see them deciding they need this flexibility for everything.
