Hi Veronica,

Well I’m not off to a great start.  Nothing seems to be responding.

I am trying to add another slider image on the homepage and clicked add a photo/upload a photo and this is all that comes up:

Then I tried to edit one of the existing images, clicked on the pencil icon and this is what comes up:

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks, Nichol

Hi,

How is it going with the developer’s tests?

Thanks, Nichol
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Good morning Nichol,

I apologize for the delay, as I was out of the office on Friday.

They've gone through some tests and seem to have resolved the issue so I tested it again this morning from the training account (exact same user role as your account) and am able to select from the media library, switch out images, and upload images. (See attachments below.)

Lower Slider - Editing Image
Main Slider - New Image from Media Library or Upload
Main Slider - Editing Image

Another things that came to mind was the browser you are using to edit. Please make sure that you are using Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, or Opera as your browser when editing the website. We have found that while Microsoft Edge typically works well, too, but Internet Explorer does not save changes in the editor, since IE has not been updated since 2014 and does not support most transitions and hover effects on websites.

Let me know if you're still having trouble with this and we can screen share later today and get to the bottom of this ASAP!

Hi Veronica,

Can you help with my posts page please? I added 40 Days for Life, but really wanted the date on the second line in the title. Is this possible?
[cid:image007.png@01D69673.081C0DB0]
Then when you click the read more button, this comes up. It’s duplicating the title. It might be an error in the code? Maybe the second title is supposed to be below the banner in the body of the email?
[cid:image008.png@01D69673.081C0DB0]
Lastly, if I want to create a post that redirects to another page on the site is that possible? I don’t see a way to change the permalink. There are many times that I want to send them to an existing page (like one of the ministries that might be having a sale or event).
[cid:image009.png@01D69673.081C0DB0]

Thank you, Nichol

Nichol Swift, Saint Gregory the Great Staff
Hi,

Here’s a page I created that I’d like that post directed to. https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/40-days-for-life/

A couple questions on creating this page:

* The image with words of 40 Days for Life is on top of the banner, similar to the title issue below. Can this be fixed to be down in the body?
* Also, on the two content sections I created with red banners, can there be a space between them? I tried adding a blank section and it wasn’t happy with that plan for a variety of reasons (experimented).
* Lastly, in the footer that is always stable on every page, can the contact us section be scootched over next to the bulletin please? It used to be like this at one point, but now there’s too large of a gap.

Thank you, Nichol

Nichol Swift, Saint Gregory the Great Staff
Sorry for all the emails, last one..

I came upon this page and saw that if there are different sized columns it does add a space between the content sections, but not if there are two single columns sections stacked on top of each other. I like the space if we can create this with the singles too.

Oh my, I think I’m in over my head. I can’t seem to get these pew cards to look right on the final page.

https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/virtual-mass/?preview_id=125058&preview_nonce=85d69abd2b&_thumbnail_id=-1&preview=true

How do I make them so that you can click on it to view a larger size and to download? Here’s how I have it now:

https://www.stgg.org/home/home-page-events/covid-19-updates/virtual-mass

and why are they scrunching up my three columns that used to be below that whole section?

Please help.. 😊

Thanks, Nichol

Hi Nichol,

I've gone through everything and here is what I've put together. Let me know if any of it is confusing and we can go through it together either before or during the second training session. I know some of it can be a bit confusing, so I've tried to include as many screenshots as I could.

Posts Two-Line Title
There is not a best-practices option for displaying a title on two lines but there is a less-common workaround that we have done before.

In the post title, you can add the code below directly into the post title between the words you would like the line break to display. Please keep in mind that this code does not need spaces around it and MUST BE COPIED EXACTLY or it may cause the entire webpage to break or display incorrectly.
Also keep in mind that this code will force a line break that will display no matter the screen size.

Code:
</br>

Example:

Single Post Title Duplicating
To-do Created.
We will be removing the title with the image so there is never an issue of the title being too many lines to fit on the image.
The post will look more like the image below:

Custom Post Excerpts
Currently, the posts excerpts are set to display the first few words/characters from the actual post. If you would prefer, you can set the exact excerpt that will display on the post's excerpt (homepage & post archives) but when someone clicks on the post, it displays the actual information.
You will want to do this for any posts that are being redirected.

As an example, I have added a custom excerpt to the 40 days for Life post

How to Add Custom Excerpts
  1. Edit Post.
  2. Click on Screen Options in top right corner.
  3. Check "Excerpt".
  4. Close Screen Options.
  5. Scroll down below the post to "Excerpt" section.
  6. Type in the content you wish to display.
  7. Publish/Update to save your changes.

Post Redirects
I have added a redirect plugin.
These redirects may be added by going to Settings > 301 Redirects.

How to Add a Redirect
It is easiest to open one tab for the 301 Redirects page and another tab to copy the permalinks from.
  1. Click on 301 Redirects (under Settings).
  2. Select 301 as ID (type) of redirect.
  3. In another tab, go to the post and copy the permalink of the original post (the post you want to redirect somewhere else).
  4. In your first tab, paste this permalink into the Redirect From field and remove the main URL (https://stgg.diocesanweb.org or https://stgg.org after launch).
  5. Select "Page" and select the final directed page from the dropdown.
  6. Click Save to save your changes and the redirect.
NOTE: Nowhere on the editing side of the post will you have a notice of redirect, so it is important to remember or reference the list of pages that you have redirected. If you ever wish to edit or delete a redirect, you will have to do so through Settings > 301 Redirects.

Option to Edit Permalink on Pages/Posts
To edit a page or posts' permalink, you will have to click
  1. Click Screen Options in the top right corner
  2. Check Slug.
  3. Close Screen Options
  4. Scroll down to the slug field and edit as needed.
  5. Click Publish/Update to save your changes.
NOTE: If a slug or permalink is updated, any 301 redirects will need to be updated as well.

Space Between Red Banners
To-do Created.

Footer
To-do Created.
The contact form will be moved closer to the bulletin. You had mentioned that it was previously a smaller gap. It may have been on a smaller screen size. The image below is on my 13-inch laptop screen, which has less space than on my desktop (second image).

How to Link to Larger/Download Image
  1. Edit page or post.
  2. Place cursor where you would like the image to display.
  3. Click Add Media above the text box.
  4. Select image and edit settings on the right of the screen. (You may need to scroll down right side.)
  5. Set Link To: Media File and Size: Medium
  6. Click Insert into page.
  7. Click Update/Publish to save your changes.
Adding images in this way should also fix your column issues.
Before vs After on https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/virtual-mass/

Again, let me know if there is any part of this that you'd liek to review before or during our second training session. Otherwise, I will give you a call on Thursday to discuss everything and schedule the second training!

Have a blessed weekend, Nichol!

Oh boy, that is much more complicated that I was used to. I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the tutorial.
Nichol Swift, Saint Gregory the Great Staff
Hi Veronica,

I experimented with the last item on this list regarding linking small images to larger images. The medium looked too small on the page so when I used a custom size and enlarged it, I had the same issue with the other blocks creeping up into this block. As an alternative, I tried putting the custom sized image into a table and that seemed to work ok. Are there any disadvantages to using images in a table like this? Also, I found the box to check to open the image in a new window – is there a way to make this the default with all links or do I just need to make a habit of checking it?

Thanks for putting up with all my questions! You are a very patient teacher!

God bless,
Nichol
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Good morning Nichol,

No worries! I'm happy to help and want to make sure you're comfortable with editing the site before launch.

I'll have the developer check on the custom size issue since we haven't seen this issue happen before.

The alternative, putting the image into a table, should work. The only time we see any issue is on mobile. Sometimes the table can go off the screen of mobile phones and people have to scroll sideways. Not a huge issue, but something I wanted to make sure you were at least aware of.
What page are you adding the images in a table? This will help the developer replicate the issue.

Unfortunately, the "open image in a new window" option is something that you will have to check each time.

Hi Nichol,

I just tried replicating the issues on my own but wasn't able to on our test page: https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/diocesan-test/

We're going to try some other things, but you are using the Add Media button to add the images in, adding the image, then resizing with the click and drag corner, correct?

Let me know and I'll see if there's something we're not doing the same.

I was looking in the revisions to see if I could find the page, but I’m having trouble understanding how to use that tool. Is the only way to look at a prior revision to click restore? It was just last night. I’ll try to recreate it for you and send a link.

Also, I was checking mobile and the table looks great with the images. I’m so happy! This was always a problem with our current website, that the table did hang off the page like you described, but it’s resizing beautifully for this.

I did notice that the menu is on the right, is there a way to put it on the left like most other mobile menus? And maybe center the logo? Also, the image under virtual Mass isn’t resizing so it looks weird. Can the image be resized.
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
Thank you for the screenshot and information. We'll mess around with it a bit more and see if we can figure it out.

The revisions tab, unfortunately, works more in the code view and does not allow for seeing the fully rendered version unless you choose to revert it. Plugins have tried to fix this and failed, so we're all just hoping it's a feature WordPress comes out with in the future.

I also checked the table with images and saw that it was resizing, so that's perfect!

We place our mobile hamburger menus on the right so that it is an easier reach for most (right-handed) users. With this in mind, would you still like us to move the hamburger menu to the left of the logo? Either way, we can center the logo.

I did also add a to-do for the image in the page header, as well as a font resize for mobile page titles so that longer titles don't overlap with the content.

Thank you for addressing all my questions. I would prefer the menu on the left please and the logo centered. I’ve actually never encountered a website that had it on the right, so I’d prefer to have it in the most logical place that most users would be used to.
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
Will do. I've added this item to the developer's list.

Hi,

I'm starting to accumulate a lot of questions for you. Is it best to ask via email or talk? But in the interim, I wonder if I can have more images on the top rotator please and also at least one more icon in the quick links. I also want to add another button on the mass bar that is for online mass - an option I didn't foresee before covid.

Thank you, and happy Friday!

Hello,

I need a little help on menus. I revised the parish events calendar page to how I’d like it. I then duplicated the page and renamed it Daily Mass Calendar (and deleted the old page by the same name). I got it into the menu list on this page:
[cid:image001.png@01D69E67.59A4A1F0]

But it’s not showing up live. And the Hearing Assist page that used to be under it is now on the main list of menus at the end after contact:
[cid:image002.png@01D69E67.59A4A1F0]
How do I get them where they are supposed to be? I also tried to make the calendar be another link to the parish events page (see the one in yellow) and added a link but nothing happened, so I might have messed this up too:

[cid:image005.jpg@01D69E67.AA894030]

Oh goodness, what a steep learning curve!

Thank you,

Your Grateful Student Nichol 😊

Good morning,

I’m not a fan of the current mobile menu. I think it’s confusing. Can we have mobile menu look like this one please but with our colors? https://www.stbrendans.net/ That is more of what we are used to. The desktop menu we have is perfect, no changes there.

I tried the menu issues below from my phone this morning and I think they are working after all. I probably need to clear my cache for this kind of revision too?

Thank you, Nichol

I clicked on the daily meditations on Monday morning and got the first error message. Aside from it missing, the error message itself is cutoff. Then while I was on the page it suggested to look in archives and I saw that the photos in archives are all duplicated. Could all these things be fixed please?

Hi again,

On this one for mobile, I looked at Inspiration Daily on 10/10/20. The print was small so I wanted to enlarge (photo 1) clicked on reader view (photo 2) and the title remained, but another day’s reflection came up under it (photo 3). Can you look into it please? Weird!

Thank you, Nichol

Hi Veronica,

I can see that someone has been working on the sizes of these boxes, but they did the opposite of what we talked about. The news and events boxes were perfect as-is, we just wanted to mimic the size and shape of these for the RSS feed boxes below. What they did instead is elongated the news and events boxes (see the dotted line box). Can they undo the changes to news & events and try again with the RSS feeds please?

Could you also let me know where to find the images for the daily readings please? I would like to upload some new images that will rotate daily. I saw them once, but cannot find them again.

Thank you, Nichol

Hi Nichol,

I've added these to-dos:
  • Update 404 & search results page
  • Red Columns on mobile - Shrink title size (so text fits in width of red columns)
  • Mobile - Pages - Header images should resize to fill the image header
  • Footer - align bulletin height to match contact form
  • Footer - match bulletin button to contact form button
Diocesan Inspiration Daily
The screenshots have to do with the actual Diocesan.com site, so I have sent the information to our company's site developer.

Shortcut/Favicon
The shortcut typically uses the favicon (seen at the top of your tabs). If you would like to change it, please send over the icon you sent over with a white background and we can replace it.

Please keep in mind that in addition to the shortcut, it will change the favicon at the top of your tabs.

Daily Readings
The Daily Readings images can be replaced by editing the homepage and selecting the Daily Readings tab.

Hi Veronica,

I received this from Elexio regarding the domain names. Are we all set with the switch on your end? I don't remember what was done previously on this. If you need the EPP Key or anything else, please let me know.

Thank you, Nichol

Domain Name
The following domains are listed as being under Elexio's care, the password for the domain is listed just below it that you may access it located at http://dns.elexio.com<http://dns.elexio.com/> and be able to re-configure the domain as well as other data associated with it.

Domain name: saintgregorythegreat.org
Password: SGTG154964

Domain name: stgg.org
Password: SGTG154964

A separate email should arrive at slower@stgg.org<mailto:slower@stgg.org> providing the EPP Key (or Transfer Initiation code) for the domain listed above, that your new domain provider will need in order to initiate the transfer of your domain out of Elexio's care; once initiated, an approval email will be sent to the Registrant or Administrative Contact Email address set up in the your Domain Access area. If this email request is not responded to then the transfer request will fail. (Please note that domain contact information is available for public access). If you have not received the EPP Key for the domain listed above within 24 hours of receiving this email then log into the Domain Access area for the domain, make sure the Registrant & Administrative Contact Email addresses are current (if not, then update), then open a support request listing the domain and ask that the EPP Key be resent. You will need to make sure to complete the domain transfer process before your domains would otherwise expire on 4/4/2021 & 10/1/2021

If you would like our assistance in transferring your domain name, enter a Support Request. If you would like to schedule the transfer for a time other than our normal schedule described above, enter a unique Support Request describing what you want.

Thank you for working on all these. I’m not sure what you need for the new favicon? What you have below looks perfect if the red is the right red we’re using throughout.
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
For the favicon, I actually only have the photo you sent (seen below).
I can crop out the box and words and leave only the red cross in the center of the image you sent over.

However, if you have the actual file you used to create that icon, feel free to send it over. I believe the red used on the website is HEX #800000.

Hi Veronica,

It looks like some work has been done on the Mass times bar, but it is not quite what I was hoping for. Is it possible to please have it mirror the quick links bar as much as possible? Here are some screen shots to help further illustrate the design:

Current (full width on pc):
[cid:image012.png@01D6ABA4.032AEF60]

[cid:image013.png@01D6ABA4.032AEF60]
As you can see, the scale is off. Now the Mass Times bar is much taller and the icon/font/vertical line are not the same scale. I do like the layout of each day in this view. I also found a place to add the live-stream link which worked well. Where do I add a link for "view all"? It is currently linked to a broken page. In the quick links bar, there is now a "top" option. This is an odd placement for this, can it be centered at the bottom of the footer instead somehow?

Current (half width on pc/phone turned on side):
[cid:image014.png@01D6ABA4.032AEF60]

[cid:image015.png@01D6ABA4.032AEF60]
In this view these bars are drastically different. The layout of each day in this view looks jumbled. Maybe it can stack like the quick links with the view button?

Current (quarter width on pc/phone standard direction):
[cid:image009.png@01D6ABA3.8493DC70]

[cid:image010.png@01D6ABA3.8493DC70]
In this view the layout of the first bar did finally stack and looks better, but they are still scrunched too much. I would prefer an empty space between each Mass group. I would still prefer the consistency of the view button however, and then this would be how it looks when it is expanded.

Does that all make sense?

Thank you so much,

Hello again,

Here is another area that I can see that your developer has been working – thank you! The spacing between these blocks used to be non-existent, but there is now a little space. Can there be more for consistency throughout the website? Here are some screen shots:

This was from the Mass schedule page. Spacing looks great.
[cid:image010.png@01D6ABA9.88EA2F80]
This was from the 40 Days for Life page. The spacing is better than it used to be, but would like as is shown above please.
[cid:image011.png@01D6ABA9.88EA2F80]
The differences are even more apparent on mobile:

[cid:image012.jpg@01D6ABA9.88EA2F80] [cid:image013.jpg@01D6ABA9.88EA2F80]

Lastly, thank you for removing the triangle on the red bars. I think it looks better without. Can the text be pushed up one space? It looks like it is still dropped down to accommodate the space for the former triangle. Would also like the words in the red box to be centered top to bottom please.

Thank you very much, Nichol 😊

Hi Veronica,
Sorry for all the emails. Could you look into this too please?

You had the developer change the photo in the page bar to resize on mobile. It looks amazing! Perfect! Thank you. I also like how the title is perfectly centered all four ways.
[cid:image001.png@01D6ABB9.4B6A5E90]

The photo still resizes when the screen is flipped sideways, looks good! The title looks like it's creeping out of center. I noticed on two-line titles that this goes way out of center in both views.
[cid:image007.png@01D6ABB9.4B7AB240]

On my desktop pc it doesn't look so great. Can the photo resize in desktop too please? I'm hoping this will make the photo look less pixelated in the process. The title is way off center as well.

Oh I see. I do not know how to make the color exact with the code, this was just something I doctored up in a word doc to give you a visual of what I had in mind. You should already have the cross jpeg on file, it’s the same one in the footer. Can someone recolor it for me please? If you crop what I sent you, the quality will probably not be very good as it was just a quick and dirty rendering on my end.

Hi Veronica,
Thanks for talking with me earlier. Here's another thing that's happening along the same topic. Both of these pages on the "click to view" portion say they are using Georgia 12pt in the paragraph heading (the default), yet they are clearly different fonts (look at the "w"). I think there are a lot of problems with fonts throughout the site. Can this be fixed please?

Thank you, Nichol

Good Morning,

I'm trying to add a year's worth of bulletins to the media library. I clicked "add items" and selected them all, but only 6 showed up eventually. Nothing happens immediately, so I have no idea if it's doing anything. (I'm used to seeing a status bar or some kind of progress indicator.) Is there a better way to add a lot of data all at once? Also, once it's in the library, is there a way to organize it? It's all jumbled together and is already becoming a challenge to find anything.

Thank you,

Hi,

I reorganized the menu that contained bulletins. And also experimented with the anchor feature. (Couldn't figure it - can you train me at a later date please?) The anchor was titled bulletins, but I deleted all the anchors. But when I reorganized the bulletins in the menu, it now calls it bulletins-2. I think it thinks there is another page called bulletins. No matter what I do, I cannot get rid of the dash 2. Can you help please? Is there some memory of old anchor titles that I need to delete first?

Hi,

As I'm working in the site more and more I'm noticing that a lot of things do not function as they should. Why haven't these been tested? It seems like these things should have been caught long ago and corrected. The calendars didn't function correctly, they were missing tons of entries in a random assortment. I just did a test form entry and it was terrible. It didn't save the entry at all, nor did it send me the form when submitted, and the reply message was not what it used to be. I deleted the calendars page and embedded my own, I'll do the same for the advertising form. The font issue is a huge deal too - definitely should have been tested long ago. I'm going to have to go through every single page and fix things and I'm already super stressed to have so much to do before launch. Sorry if I sound crabby, there's just so many errors. Thanks for understanding.

Hello,

Thank you for the great meeting today! I feel like we really covered everything! I'm attaching a link to the daily readings page that is listed under grow in faith. This is kind of like what you were making during our meeting with the other two RSS feeds below the first. When you do those, can you box them like this please and then add the more section below it with alternate meditations? Can you take the black box off the more links please? I think everything on RSS feeds are hidden, as I don't seem to have access to them. Any changes you make to the feeds, can you make them on this page too please?

Thanks a million,

Nichol

Good morning Nichol,

I've made a note to put them in the red boxes and remove the Read More button border so it matches the homepage.

I can have the developer update that page (read more button specifically) and match the styling on the single posts of the 3 daily's.

Thank you for the link and notes!

Hello Nichol,

I've let the developer know about the 11th item.

As for the accordion, I've adjusted the settings for the Coronavirus accordion and added the "Duplicate This" option that will copy over all settings exactly.
When duplicating, it saves it as a draft, so you will still need to edit the new draft, change the title and content, then publish before using it.

Boxes still right on top of each other. Space like next photo is better.

Good morning Nichol,

I've forwarded everything to the developer so he can take a look at everything today.

We're looking at the Saint of the Day feed and aren't quite sure why it's pulling in the date. Right now, the feed is set to use the same date as Franciscan Media is using in their RSS feed's published date.
We may have to check this daily to see the issue since both the RSS feed and your website only push/display 1 day at a time and does not show a history.

As for adding the More... box to the bottom, do you mean to add the to the bottom of the daily posts or to the bottom of all pages across the website?

Thank you,

Veronica Alvarado

Hi,

Thank you! The odd date is showing up on both the saint of the day and also the daily readings, so I don’t think it’s Franciscan Media. As for the More box, please add to the daily posts under the other two boxes. So for example, if I’m on the RSS feed for the daily readings, the bottom already has a box for the reflections and a box for the saint of the day, and under that I would like the single box with the more items, like this page:
[cid:image001.png@01D6B999.FF799020]

Hope you have a blessed day too,

Good morning Nichol,

The developer is checking the styling on the accordions to make things match the same default styling of the rest of the website.

I've updated the feed aggregator to keep 2 posts at a time, instead of 1 post (deletes the old when the new comes in). Unfortunately, Franciscan media only shares Saint of the Day post at a time in their RSS feed--no past items, no future items.
We do not have control over when they delete, since it does depend on the time that the RSS feed creator schedules the new post. This is why the posts delete and replace at different times, across different time zones.

Good Morning,

Thank you that sounds good for the accordions. For the RSS feeds, why were there broken links across all three?

On links, can they become red when selected and then revert back to gold after a time? It looks like they are now grey when selected and never red.

Thank you, Nichol
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
I'm not sure why the RSS feed links failed to work. I've let the developer know and to check the links daily.

As for the links, we were doing some testing for various code snippets that would make the visited link only stay for a day or two, rather than forever, as we had before. The developer will be updating it again this afternoon. I will let you know when that's completed.

For now, he has made sure the accordion links inherit the same styling as the rest of the site's content and expanded the See More.. links bar in posts to be full width.

Hi Veronica,

Is it possible to slightly darken the default "paragraph" font throughout? My husband thought it was hard to read, and now that he's planted the seed I think he's right. We have a lot of older people that would probably appreciate a little more clarity.

Thank you, and sorry for being a pain.

Hi,

I'm having a problem embedding my forms. In Cognito Forms, I have these choices to copy the code:

[cid:image001.png@01D6BE5C.3A991D30] or [cid:image002.png@01D6BE5C.3A991D30] or [cid:image003.png@01D6BE5C.3A991D30]
In my current website, I've always used iFrame and it works perfectly. In your website, it works well but resizes oddly on mobile devices. The Seamless version looks great on all devices, but I can't click the submit or save buttons. I've never used AMP - I don't know how.

What is the best solution? I'd like to continue to use the seamless version if we can get it to function properly. Maybe there's something in the code that is fighting with your site?? Please help.

Thank you, Nichol

Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Hi Nichol,

I've let the developer know to take a look at these items. My guess is that, yes, the code must be fighting somewhere.

I also have him looking at the Saint of the Day today while the issue is still happening.

Hi,

If you click anything in either of the red bars it erases the content. It’s probably making the text red which is camouflaged in the background. Can the red bars only not change color when clicked? That might fix it. This is how it used to be I think.

Thanks, Nichol

Ok, thank you, that worked. It messed up the date on saint of the day however. Now it’s saying November 19, 2008. I think todays saint is Saint Rose Philippine Duchesne. I can’t find St. Bernward on Franciscan Media’s site at all – is this where the posts are pulling from?

Hi there,

Could this be corrected too please? When you click links in the menu it erases it too (or turns it red and makes it invisible). There is usually a Bulletin link under news and events.

Hi,

What is the standard in the industry for how long links remain a different color after being clicked? I think 24 hours is too much. It's weird to come back to your site the next day and have all the links look different colors. I tried to google this question, but couldn't find it. I think just a couple hours would be more normal - what do you think?

Hi Nichol,

I had Monday off and am out of the office today but wanted to make sure I addressed your questions before I'm out until Monday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Cognito Forms
Can you please send a page on which the Cognito form (both seamless and iFrame) is not displaying properly? Our developer tried resizing https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/welcome/join-the-parish/parish-registration/ and it seemed to work properly at the various screen sizes.

Saint of the Day
Multiple sites are reporting issues with the date on the Saint of the Day feed from Franciscan Media, so we have reached out to their IT team since the dates in their RSS feed are not formatted properly. To make sure it was the feed and not the plugin, we replaced the feed.
For now, we are still waiting on a fix or more information from Franciscan Media.

Visited Links - Length of Time
The links are currently set to 24 hours, which means that if a user came back the next day or week, the links would be back to normal. From what we could find, this was the default on most websites.

Visited Links - Menu
We have updated the menu items to remain white instead of turning red. If you are stil having issues, I think it may be helpful to completely clear your browser cache and history (for at least 24hrs) so all items on all pages are cleared.

Menu - Reorder
The menu can most definitely be reordered in Appearances > Menus. I know your menu system is a bit more difficult than a basic menu, so I can help you through this if you like.

Menu - Missing Items
I see that the items are there and with the new menu visited links update, they appear even if you have visited them.

Footer Buttons Background
We have updated the View All hover action to remain white. Please note that the Send Form button still turns transparent on hover.

Let me know if you have questions or updates.

Have a blessed Thanksgiving, Nichol!

Per your request..

https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/contact/forms/ministry-quarterly-report-test-page/

Here is a page I created with both versions of the form on it. On a phone, this is what it looks like with iFrame when vertical (perfect):
[cid:image002.jpg@01D6C33D.4B523B30]

On a phone, this is what it looks like with iFrame when horizontal (see how the font has been resized big in some places and small in others):

[cid:image003.jpg@01D6C33D.4B523B30]

The seamless visually looks perfect no matter what screen size or orientation, BUT it is non-functional as you can fill out the whole form and it will not allow you to submit (nothing happens at all when you click the button). Bummer..

Thank you for looking into it.

Hi,

Thanks for your email. I just sent a separate email with the two versions of Cognito Forms – have him try to resize on a phone, it’s different than resizing on a computer. I included screenshots.

Will wait to see what’s up with the Saint of the Day. The date is only one of the issues. The wrong saint has been coming up or no saint at all and a book recommendation instead.

On visited links can you revise the time? Or is 24 the minimum? I’d prefer 6 hours max as I’m coming back the next day and they are all still activated. I’d like them to reset when I visit again.

Menu issues all look good now, thank you.

I’ll give the menu reorder a go on my own and ask for help if I can’t figure it out. Thank you.

On the contact form and bulletin link, why did he make the contact form transparent? They are now the opposite of what they were. I would like them the same please.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!

Hi,

Happy almost first day of advent. I know you’re sick of hearing about the saint of the day, but the wring saint is up today. This is yesterday’s saint. Is there another site that has a more reliable feed since Franciscan is having so many troubles?

Blessings, Nichol

Hi,

The menu is disappearing again. COVID-19 Guidelines were there a minute ago above the resources.

[cid:image001.png@01D6C667.60107230]

Also, for the life of me I cannot figure out why this page is drawing a line across my links: https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/st-gregory-the-great-at-home/ . They are all YouTube links. What happened? I've tried everything I can think of to correct it or redo the links.

Hi,

Do you have anything like this on the new site? https://www.stgg.org/home/home-page-events/covid-19-updates/clergy-blogs--posts This allowed the people to comment on a blog, or forward to social media. As the administrator, the comments would come to me to approve them before posting, and then they'd appear below the message.

Hi Veronica,

Any chance this could be moved up to the front of the website to-do list please? The only way I can navigate this menu is by making it small and using the mobile menu. I can't keep clearing my cache and hard refreshing, it's erasing all my passwords on other sites and slowing down my work. I couldn't ask parishioners to continually clear their cache either, most would have no idea how to do it and it would be crazy to ask them. Thanks for understanding, this is a big problem.

Good morning Nichol,

This is an issue that we resolved after it was first brought up and no one on our team can't seem to replicate the issue. Even then, clearing the cache anytime since the fix (in the last week) should have resolved the issue.

Here is what we are seeing:

If you open an incognito window in Google Chrome, are you able to see the menu? (See how to go incognito here.)

Fortunately, visitors will not see this issue since it will have been resolved before they ever visited the website. Still, I apologize that you've had to clear your cache so many times. I know how frustrating that can be and we truly appreciate your patience through all of this.

Additionally, we have updated the visited links within the content to only be a different color for 6 hours then return to the original link color.

Ok, I’ll monitor it today and let you know. It was happening repeatedly yesterday. Maybe it’s because I’m editing some of those pages – although not all – I’m baffled.

Thanks for the 6hrs – I think that will be great.

Hi again,

How do I customize the individual pages that open from the gallery, like this one? I would like to change the header photo and also add something at the bottom that is an easy return to the home page with all the albums.

Thank you, Nichol

[cid:image001.png@01D6C8B1.5BC4A970]

Ok, I'm a disaster. I can't seem to make this come out the same way twice. Here's a complicated question..

If I'm on this page and want to view what I've done, and click "view Envira Album", the next page comes up (scroll down).[cid:image001.png@01D6C8BD.FE2ACBC0]

Then this page comes up. Note the header picture is the hands.

[cid:image002.png@01D6C8BD.FE2ACBC0]

Then I click the Holy Thursday album that I re-created and this page comes up. I gave it a featured image and now a little link comes up that says "Back to Album". I like this! There's another similar link at the bottom that I didn't capture in the screenshot. All good! Please keep scrolling..

[cid:image003.png@01D6C8BE.662599D0]

Now if I start at the menu, like my parishioners would start from, and click the albums like this..

[cid:image004.png@01D6C8BF.213E2D40]

This is the page that comes up. It's almost the same, but look at the different photo.

[cid:image005.png@01D6C8BF.BDC56F70]

And then if I click Holy Thursday, another similar page comes up but now it's missing the link to go back to the view all albums page..

[cid:image006.png@01D6C8BF.BDC56F70]

What am I doing wrong? Please help.

Thank you, Nichol

Good morning Nichol,

Full-Screen Gallery Photos
I’ve made a to-do for the developer to look into this, but since it is the Envira Gallery Pro plugin, there may be limitations to what we can do.
I will keep you updated!

Gallery Post Pages
With Envira Gallery, there is not a way to customize the post the way you can with basic Pages and Posts. However, we can hardcode or set rules for the Envira Gallery post type.
Would you like us to have the Featured Image display at the top behind the page title instead of above the photos?
As for the “something at the bottom that is an easy return to the homepage with all the albums,” if you have the text and idea of styling, we can add that in for ALL Envira Gallery posts.
Let me know what you’d like at the bottom and I will check in with the developer to determine any costs.

Editing Gallery
Unfortunately, Envira Gallery does not allow you to edit images from their page. Since these images are in the media library, you could edit them there, but that would require an extra step.
My suggestion would be to yes, rotate any images before uploading. It will probably save time as opposed to doing it through WordPress.

Comments
By default, Diocesan hides comments since 99% of parishes do not use or want comments on their sites. We can re-enable comments, but would you like them on all pages, posts only, pages only, envira galleries, etc?
Of course, you will be able to moderate the comments before they are posted and have the option to turn off comments on a per-page/post basis (checkbox).

Envira Gallery Headers
As I mentioned above, we can set it so the Featured Image of an Envira Gallery or Envira Album displays at the top behind the page title instead of above the photos, but my guess is that you are creating and viewing albums in different places.
By clicking “View Envira Gallery” or “View Envira Album” you are viewing the post, not a page.

This is a page where you can edit content above/below the album shortcode.
Pages are set up to display featured images in the page title header.
The Back to Album link does not display but I will check in with the developer.

This is a post where you cannot edit content above/below the album.
Right now, Envira posts are NOT set up to display featured images in the page title header.
The Back to Album link will display and link to the correct album.
You can add these albums and galleries directly to your menu. Here’s a video on how to do this:

Hi,

Thank you for addressing all my questions. I’m still a little confused, but it sounds like it’s due to limitations within the plugin.

* Full screen gallery photos would be great if possible, or at least to make the horizontal viewing on a phone bigger than a postage stamp.

* For the gallery post pages, is it possible to see two examples please; one with the featured image behind the page title and one with just a text title and no photo?

* For the return link, this is fine as shown, it just wasn’t showing up on the final pages:

* [cid:image003.png@01D6CA2B.18603110]

* For comments, I was asking about this for the blog, not the photos or anywhere else. If there are no capabilities for a blog page, then please disregard.

Thank you, Nichol

I think I figured this out. I am maxed out on space. When I deleted some photos from the gallery, I could upload these. Have you already increased my capacity from last month, or is it still pending?
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Good evening Nichol,

There is no one answering phones after hours, but we do have a staff member that monitors our support email, webdepartment@diocesan.com, where any voicemails get forwarded to, throughout the weekend.

I'm glad Mary and our developer were able to get this sorted.

Hi,

That’s good to know for the future, I’ll keep that in my address book. It was actually Ryan Ross that helped me – I had asked Curt Street if he knew anyone that could help (he was in my facebook friends list) and he referred me. I maxed out my data, so I’ll need to increase this if you haven’t already please.

Thanks a million and sorry that you had to follow up on your night off.

God bless you, Nichol

Hi,

Do you have any news on the Saint of the Day? I noticed this on the backend when I started a post. I was surprised to see Saint Nicholas, since Saint Francesco Antonio Fasani has been stuck on the homepage since November 27th.

Will this be corrected by launch?

Thanks, Nichol

Good, beautiful morning Nichol,

No worries! I understand the worry, especially if you had planned on working on the website over the weekend!

We recently updated the 301 Redirect plugin and it seems that the permission settings changed are now hidden by default, so I have updated them for you to see under Settings again.

As for the Saint of the Day, we have reached out to Franciscan Media multiple times but have not received any kind of response.
At this point, did we want to remove it from the website entirely, replace it, or wait a bit longer? My worry is that they will not get back to us or will not update their RSS feed, which is what the posts are entirely relied upon.
They are the only Saint of the Day feed that has images and the only one that pulls in the full text.

I know we still have this up in the air, but did you have a specific date in mind for the launch? Our staff is scheduling PTO for Christmas and I want to make sure someone is available to launch your website.

Thank you,

Veronica Alvarado

Good Morning,

Thank you for fixing the 301 Redirect.

I had suggested temporarily replacing the saint of the day with something else in a previous email, so yes maybe you could find some alternatives. Aside from the date, it looked fine today so I thought someone had been working on it – no? My Laudate app has a saint of the day, but I can’t tell where it comes from. Or maybe something like this one http://feeds.feedburner.com/catholicnewsagency/saintoftheday ? If they were the only one that posted a photo, is it possible to pull the photo only from them, and then pull the text from someone else? I would think they’d sync most of the time. I can’t eliminate it at this point, since the whole homepage was designed to have the balance of 3 columns in that section.

As for the launch, it’s still December 31 as this is the last day that my current website will be up.

Thank you, Nichol
Nichol Swift, Saint Gregory the Great Staff
Are there any updates from the developer on the envira gallery? I’d like to button those up so that I can move on. Thank you
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Hi Nichol,

Saint of the Day

I added it to the website but the CNA feed but then saw that they are coming through with 2008 dates. This must have been the reason I did not consider this one as an option.
(December 7, 2008 at midnight EST, so it's December 6, 2008 on your site)

The Franciscan Media feed is coming through but with the incorrect dates. However, since the date is incorrect, it does occasionally register that there is no new Saint of the Day.

Envira Gallery

* Full screen gallery photos would be great if possible, or at least to make the horizontal viewing on a phone bigger than a postage stamp.
I had added a to-do for the developer to look at this, but he is out of the office today. I will follow up with him tomorrow.

* For the gallery post pages, is it possible to see two examples please; one with the featured image behind the page title and one with just a text title and no photo?
With featured image behind page title:

Text title only:

* For the return link, this is fine as shown, it just wasn’t showing up on the final pages:
Correct, the return link is not showing becuase you are adding the album to a page with content.
If you use the actual posts and albums links (URL looks like https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/envira/album or https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/envira/gallery) it will show the return link.

Comments

* For comments, I was asking about this for the blog, not the photos or anywhere else. If there are no capabilities for a blog page, then please disregard.
I will see what the capabilities are when the develoiper returns.

Here is the list of Catholic Saint of the Day sites/RSS feeds that I have found. So far, none of them are usable.

Vatican
https://www.vaticannews.va/en/saints.html
No RSS feed set up for only Saint of the Day

Catholic Ireland
https://www.catholicireland.net/saints_category/saints/
No RSS feed set up
Inconsistent dates

My Catholic Life
https://mycatholic.life/saints/saints-of-the-liturgical-year/
No RSS feed set up

Aleteia
https://aleteia.org/daily-prayer/feed/
RSS feed has no description (no text)

Catholic.org
http://www.catholic.org/xml/rss_sofd.php
No images and cuts off after 20 words

Catholic News Agency
https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/resources/saints
No longer does daily saint posts, but has a search filter on their website.
RSS feed shows old dates.

As for other Daily posts, I'm not quite sure.
The only Prayer of the Day feed we have does not have images and is Christian, but not Catholic.
The Bible Verse of the Day is an iFrame, not a feed, and does not have images.

I will ask someone in the app department if there are other daily feeds that they have seen used and would recommend.

Gosh, what a bummer. Let’s keep the saint of the day with Franciscan for now and hopefully they’ll respond and correct the issue. Is it possible to put today’s date for the Saint of the Day that isn’t coming from the feed? This way if the post is wrong, at least it won’t be that obvious. Or if that’s not possible, can we leave the date completely off? (I still want the date on the other two feeds however)

At one point you were going to look into adding the feature photo to headers of all three feeds – on the page that opens when you click “more”. Since we’re running out of time, could you please make all three a text header?

I would also like the text header (option 2) for all the Envira Gallery posts (not the main photo page, just the ones it opens up when you click for the individual albums).
Nichol Swift, Saint Gregory the Great Staff
I’m sorry you’ve gone to so much trouble. Would Diocesan ever consider doing your own feed for the saints? Maybe it could be subscription-based to pay for itself. I bet a ton of churches would sign up immediately. 😊
Nichol Swift, Saint Gregory the Great Staff

Good afternoon Nichol,

Yes! While Franciscan Media has not responded nor updated their RSS feed, we were able to use the import date instead of the original post date!

This should solve the date issue but does not fix any other RSS issues that may arise, so we'll have to keep an eye on it!

As for the image, I've got the developer looking into it!

We had discussed having the image in the header but you had preferred that the header image remain the default featured image and the image moved down below so it would be visible in its original ratio.
We can change the post headers to be text but want to clarify if you'd like them to be updated for only the daily posts or for all news posts (any post set up under Posts in the admin side menu).

Hi,

I played around with my ministry columns until I was happy with the layout, but wondered if there is a way to scootch the last column "Parish Life" over a little to the right? Maybe a vertical row before it? I experimented with all the options in the advanced menu, but couldn't come up with anything that did this.

Hi Veronica,

I wanted to let you about something that I've come across. Whoever brought over the information from my original website changed a whole bunch of my ministry names. They have also randomly edited a lot of the content, but inconsistently, so I'm having to go page by page, line by line, and fix everything back to the way it was. While I'm sure they thought they were doing me a favor by "improving" my site, it is forcing me to spend hours upon hours of needless work. This should have been discussed before core changes were made to the content. I know this isn't your fault, but it's important and you need to know for the next client.

Thank you, Nichol

Good Morning Veronica,

Is the developer still working on this? This bundle of code appeared a few days ago where the photo of the bible used to be, but I haven't seen any change since then. This was where I wanted to have the photo of the psalms with the wheat. Also take off the image header of all daily feeds and make them a text header.

I also never heard back about the storage space. Has it been increased as we discussed?

Thank you, Nichol

Hi Veronica,

Happy Gaudete Sunday! Can you explain about slugs please? I was experimenting with them today and I am lost. I thought it was a quick way to link to a page with a short URL. For example, the slug for this page https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/ministries/liturgy/adoration/ is adoration. Eventually, will I be able to publicize this in the bulletin to be www.stgg.org/adoration<http://www.stgg.org/adoration>? (without all the stuff in between) Or did I misunderstand its usage?

Hi,

I never heard back on this, but I see that comments are now popping up on things. I'm assuming I can create something like this now that the comments plugin has been added. Please turn them off on all pages unless I specifically add them. I saw that they were showing at the bottom of the RSS Daily Meditations, but there may be others that I'm not aware of too.

Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Good morning Nichol,

I apologize for not responding sooner. I was out of the office Thursday afternoon through Monday. I did not realize that my vacation responder would not send to Basecamp emails that came through. Again, I apologize.

Menu Columns
The developer went through yesterday and moved the last column (Parish Life) to the right a bit. After a hard refresh, let us know what you think!

Content Migration
Thank you for bringing this to my attention! We have certainly changed things in the last two years to compensate for exactly what you are describing. We now spend more time discussing and planning content migration with the client and review the level of updates that clients are looking for instead of taking it upon ourselves.

Post Headers (Image/Text)
The developer has taken off the image header from all daily feeds (text header now).
The images seen on these posts are within the content. Remember, these feeds were using the first image in the content as their featured image before.

Storage Space
Ryan updated your storage space to the Tier 2 as discussed, therefore fixing your website and doubling the storage capacity from 5GB to 10 GB. There is no further action needed since Ryan took care of that.

Slugs
In WordPress, the uneditable part of a URL is created by a parent page or category. The slug portion that you are able to edit pertains to the page itself. With this in mind, if you wanted the Adoration page to just be stgg.org/adoration, you would need to set the parent page to NONE.
A few things to keep in mind are:
  1.  Google and other search engines use the parent/child relationship of pages to better map out your website and appear higher on search results lists. (Read more about this here.)
  2. Any links that previously appeared on pages would need to be updated after removing the parent page. Items in the menu added as “Custom Links” will need to be updated, as well. However, any item in the menu that was added as a “Page” will not need to be updated.
  3. Posts will retain their category page in the URL and do not have an option to remove this.
  4. Removing the parent page from a page will remove it from being "--Page Title" under the parent page in the backend list of pages and display as any other page without a parent (first level display).

Comments
The developer has comments set to display on posts or pages ONLY if you have checked the box for “Allow Comments”. By default, it is turned off for all pages and posts.
We previously had the Daily Meditation set to always allow comments (via RSS importer) to test the functionality with the RSS importer. This has since been turned off by default for this and all feeds.

Additionally, any comments received will need to be approved by you in the Comments Section of your admin menu before they appear on the website for any page/post you have activated comments on.

Launch
Since our office will be closed on January 1, I recommend launching on December 30. This way, if you have any questions, we are available to address them on December 31 before the long weekend.

Diocesan Closed & Time Off
I will be out of the office on December 25 and 28.
The main developer on your website will be out of the office from December 25-January 3. He will still be clocking in to launch the website and run through the post-launch checklist, so there is no need to worry about the launch date that week.
We do, however, ask that any updates or concerns regarding the website be brought to our attention by Tuesday, December 22 so that we may update it in time for launch.

Post-Launch Support
Last, I wanted to let you know that after launch, you will have an additional 2 weeks of free support and training. We know that it is typically after launch that more editing questions arise, Father may want things added to the website, and you receive parishioner feedback. During those 2 weeks, we want to help you through this and make sure you are completely prepared to continue editing your website.
After those 2 weeks, any development additions or additional training sessions will be quoted with the standard rate of $70/hr, prorated. (Support does not include your security suite and site updates, which are included in your hosting package.)

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Hello,

I hope you had a nice vacation! Thanks for the newsy email, it’s great. I wrote comments below in red. I’m also attaching my list of things still outstanding – and I had one new question at the bottom.

Thank you for your support.

Nichol
Nichol Swift, Saint Gregory the Great Staff
Hi,

I'm trying to think of a way to use this post expirator feature for individual blocks (like this one). Is it possible to take an existing page, add a block with a limited-time event, and then enable the expirator? It would be cool if the way it expired was to a previous revision that didn't have the event on it. Is that possible?

If not, I was thinking I could duplicate the page and lead to it with a post and then set the expirator there. The only thing that might be odd is that they could get to the original page which is still under ministries that wouldn't have the event.

Or maybe there's some way I could embed a shortcode with an expirator?

What are your thoughts. I feel like there has to be a way to accomplish this, even if I have to get creative. This was actually something that Sam Lanning promised in the beginning, and I've been sad that it wasn't true. (In his defense, he probably misunderstood what I was asking.)

Thank you, Nichol

Hi Nichol,

I'm still going through the document but Basecamp does not display email forwards, so if you had added comments in red, we did not receive them.
Please re-send the email with your notes in red to webdepartment@diocesan.com for me to review.

Thank you!

Thanks, sent now. Basecamp sure is difficult to use.
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Good afternoon Nichol,

I’ve gone through all of your notes and put this together:

RSS Feeds - Page Not Found [Edit]
I know if you visited the page the day before and then leave it open until the next day then the previous day’s post no longer exists and will go to a 404 page.
I am unable to replicate the issue but in the meantime we can make it so the posts keep the last 3 so if it goes to a previous day’s post, it is not going to an error page.

Expiring Pages/Replacement Pages [Addition]
This is something that cannot be done by the block, but CAN be done by the page.
I have added a plugin that the Diocese of Venice, FL, uses to duplicate a page, make the updates (to the duplicate), and schedule the duplicate to take the place of the original.
I will be playing around with this to refamiliarize myself with the plugin then send over some instructions!

Top Feature [Addition]
Since the footer side borders grow and shrink based on the page width, I’m not sure where we would be able to put the “Top” button.
Are you thinking of having it float above the quicklinks? Or, if in the footer, where are you thinking? Let me know and I will talk with the developer to get a quote put together.

Page Titles [Edit]
I see that some kind of accommodations are being made to keep the page title in the center, but it is slightly off. A to-do has been added to make sure the entire text container is exactly center center of the header image. My guess is that it is taking into account the text's line height, because as seen in the images below, it is centering the entire text section differently, not just the first line.

Post Titles [Edit]
A to-do has been added for the mobile post title of posts (RSS & others) to be centered.

Red Page Block Spacing [Edit]
I’ve added a to-do for the developer to go through some random pages and see if we can find what is causing this issue even after

Script Font Options [Addition]
I have tried to find a solution for this but there is not a free plugin that we have used before that allows you to add multiple fonts of your choosing. TinyMCE Advanced is the plugin that we are currently using that allows for you to change the font and size, but does not have the functionality to add your own fonts.
However, I have found a plugin that may be what you are looking for but would require us to remove the TinyMCE Advanced plugin, which may remove the font style and size changes you have made. Let me know how you would like us to proceed.

Media File Organization [Addition]
There is a plugin that we recommend that is free for up to 10 folders. If you will require more than 10 folders, the plugin cost is $25 plus handling and tax (something the plugin store requires, not Diocesan).
If you would like us to add this plugin, please let me know which plan you prefer.

Media Editor [Addition + Info]
Unfortunately, there is not a way to edit images’ borders and margins within WordPress on a per-image basis. The rotation may be edited when editing in the media library (instructions here).
However, if you are finding that ALL images added via Add Media need more margins, we can update this in the website’s theme code.

Analytics [Info]
Once your website has launched, we will install basic WordPress statistics and have the option of adding Google Analytics. I already have a note for myself to add Google Analytics and go through the setup with you after launch.
Please note that this will require you to already have a Google Analytics account. This is not something that Diocesan can set up for you.

Embedding iFrame vs Seamless [Edit]
We will look at this again. Thus far, we have not been able to find a solution and are not sure why it is working one way but not the other.
Could you please provide us with the login information for Cognito forms?

Envira Gallery Mobile [Edit]
We are still working on this item but are not sure that we can modify the plugin to display as you are wanting without modifying the plugin at its core. If we do this, the plugin cannot be updated in the future (security issues, no new features, no bug fixes, etc).

Envira Gallery Album Links [Edit]
I know that Envira Galleries in Albums in the original post (https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/envira_album/4731/) display the back link but when you use the shortcode (https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/welcome/media-center/photo-albums/), it does not display.
I have added a to-do to see if we can get the shortcode albums/galleries to also display the link.

Headings [Info]
Heading 1: Raleway, bold, 48px, #404040
Heading 2: Raleway, bold, 36px, #404040
Heading 3: Raleway, bold, 30px, #404040
Heading 4: Raleway, bold, 24px, #404040
Heading 5: Raleway, bold, 20px, #404040
Heading 6: Raleway, bold, 14px, #404040
Paragraph: Raleway, regular, 16px, #404040

RSS Feed Daily Reading Photos [Edit]
“RSS feed Daily Readings photos still need to be changed in the red boxes below Daily Meditation and Saint of the Day.  Also on this page: https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/grow-in-faith/daily-readings/
To be clear, we are updating the image so that it matches the homepage, correct? So making it taller and not have as much white space above it?

Photo Attribution [Info]
Photo attribution is dependant on the image’s source. Some image companies require that you source the images. Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, and Cathopic do not require attribution.
iStock images do not require attribution unless used in an editorial context, as stated on theri website:
Do I need to include a photo credit?
You do not need to include a photo credit for commercial use, but if you are using content for editorial purposes, you must include the following credit adjacent to the content or in visual production credits: "iStock.com/Artist's Member Name."

View More Upcoming Events Link [Edit]
I have let the developer know to have this open in the same window/tab and not in a new one.

Hi Veronica,

Have we exhausted every option to make these photos show up in the box on the homepage? On my old website I could enter 100% for the width and it would resize accordingly, but this website doesn’t give me that option in photos. It looks good in the red box, but not so good on the homepage – same for the post photos.

Thank you, Nichol

Hi Nichol!

This is the developer, Sam. Yes I did send that as a test. I'll be sending more as I continue to work on the issue regarding form submissions.

Hi,

Thanks for looking into this. Do you mind writing test on the first entry and then your name in the bottom please? That particular form goes to 9 people and they have been asking what it is.

Thank you, Nichol

Good morning Nichol,

Attached are screenshots of what I am seeing:

There are a couple of ways to display them consistently across different column sizes and screen sizes, so I wasn't sure if the height was more important (now all consistent) or if there is something else that you are going for.

Hi,

Your screenshots look really nice, but they are very inconsistent on mobile. There is one page that is perfect, and that’s the second photo for saint of the day. Here are my screenshots.

Thank you, Nichol[cid:967E2A45-5868-4663-BD99-6F250012F8BF-L0-001][cid:48FB90C9-F4F7-463B-8306-CD0B319696EA-L0-001][cid:E977275D-485E-4FD9-BFBB-6DE366DB0964-L0-001][cid:2ABA61B8-5D12-4FAE-8D2E-92E632F75D88-L0-001]

Hi,

I sent the earlier response from home on my phone, but this one looks off too. Your screenshot of this same page looks totally different, so I’m not sure how this is possible. The daily reading photo is so large I can’t fit it in one screenshot.

A consistent height across all pages and screen sizes would be lovely.

Thanks & Blessings, Nichol

Hi,

Should I go through and assign anything that doesn't have a parent page? They are correct in the menu. Here is an example of one without a parent: https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/clergy-blogs-posts/

Is there a way to add keywords that the search feature can pick up on?

I had to hard refresh this morning to pull in the latest code for the posts (updated yesterday) to see the consistent images, so I wonder if that's what it is.

Parent Pages [Info]
You don't necessarily HAVE to assign things without parent pages. It can be helpful for users and SEO, but is really a matter of preferance.

SEO [Addition]
For keywords, there is an SEO plugin that can be added. The free version only allows for a limited number of keywords. However, this plugin does allow you to control the preview for pages in Google Searches and social media sharing.
https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/
I can add the lite(free) version for now.

Veronica Alvarado

I hard-refreshed and all the red boxes everywhere, desktop and mobile, look great! Thank you! They are skinny, but I’ll take skinny and consistent, over inconsistent. Mobile photos on the homepage are all different sizes. Can they work on this without changing anything on the red boxes please?

Thanks for answering about parent pages, I’ll put this on my own to-do list down the road. I’ve been going through and making pages private that I don’t want to be seen until I’m ready. Also deleting old pages that I’ve redone or don’t need.

I like the idea of the free plugin – is it a few keywords per page? If only a few keywords total, how much would the paid version be?

Homepage Daily's [Edit]
I've made a to-do for the developer but he will not be able to work on it until the morning of launch. However, I don't anticipate it being a difficult task. 5-10 mins, max and can be done before launch.

SEO [Info]
I belive that the free plugin allows for only one keyword or keyphrase.
Their website lists out all the free vs paid features and costs:

Hello Nichol,

Here is the status of those new tasks:

Homepage View More
We've made the homepage news View More link the same gold color as the rest.

Mobile Homepage Posts
All 3 are the same size and match the upcoming events section, as well.

Mobile Menu Search
The developer tried moving the search down but the plugin is ignoring the request. We've put in a support ticket to the developer for now but this will be something that needs to be addressed after the launch, next week when they get back to us with a solution or workaround.

Archive Page
View More now matches homepage.

We will be starting the launch now.

Hi,

I took some time to look over the Yoast plugin and I’m pretty confused at what it does. Can you help explain it please? The search we have currently is really great if you know the name of the page you are looking for. What I’d love is an advanced option to look within the pages for certain keywords. For example, the page I have our live-stream on is titled “Mass”. But if you typed live-stream in the search, it doesn’t find that page. I would like it to be found. Will this plugin do that? Most of the other things it says it can do, I will likely never need or utilize so maybe it’s overkill.

Thank you, Nichol
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Hi Nichol,

I apologize. I completely misunderstood. The Yoast plugin is to aid in bringing up your score in Google Searches and to customize sharing your website's pages/posts on social media.

You are looking to modify the WordPress search, correct?
If so, I will have to look further into this. We've had others request this in the past but have not found a solution that modifies WordPress's search functionality to use keywords correctly and is up to date with the newest version of WordPress.

Let me know if you ARE talking about WordPress's search and I can see if there are any newer plugins that may do what you're looking for.

Something has happened with the ratios of my photos. Can this be reverted back to the way it was on December 25th please? Hi Veronica,

I was thinking about short URL's to be used in publications and wanted to run something by you. I created this page: https://stgg.org/adoration/ and then did a 301 redirect to the real page: https://stgg.org/ministries/liturgy/adoration/ . I've been experimenting with it, and it looks like this could work. Is there any reason that you can think of that this would be frowned upon? The long URL's look bad in our bulletin for people that have a paper copy and it's a lot to type in accurately.

I looked into Bitly, but I'm not excited about having another site to work on, plus it will get expensive. What are your thoughts?

Hi Veronica,

What was the verdict on the font question below? Was the change you proposed going to undo my work?

I’ve been experimenting with fonts and came up with a possible partial solution. I tinkered with the code on this page: https://stgg.org/font-practice-page/ and was able to produce a script font (see Brush Script). It only seems to work on desktop whereas mobile reverts to a simple font. Then I was experimenting with all the other fonts and see that they all revert to a simple font on mobile too. Is this how it’s supposed to work? And will I be breaking anything by tweaking the code?

Please advise, thank you.

Nichol

Good Morning,

I would like to adjust this link. It’s annoying to have to scroll back up to see more events and I think most people will miss it altogether. Is it possible to move it to the bottom so that you see it when you’ve already scrolled past the first six? Maybe then it could say “Load More” (or something else if you think there’s something more appropriate). Would that look weird or not stand out enough from the “more” under the last event? Then when it links to the next page, can you add an anchor to the 7th event so they don’t have to scroll past all the events they’ve already seen?

What are your thoughts to make this better?

Thank you, Nichol

Hi Nichol,

YouTube Video
I'm not sure why it's doing that. I even tried looking at it on my phone (on and off wifi) and was able to see the video. I wonder if it's a YouTube restriction or setting? Hmm...

Upcoming Events
Yes, I will have the developer move the title up so there is less white space.

Captcha on Forms
The Gravity Form in the footer of the email is set up to have an invisible Captcha (icon seen in bottom right corner).
I also went through the forms and spot-checked them and didn't see any of them without a Captcha.
I'll have a developer go through and add an email scrambler to the code so it will be harder for code readers to read and grab any emails accross the website.

In the future, I may be forwarding any support emails to webdepartment@diocesan.com so our support staff can help with any issues.

Nichol, it's been such a pleasure working with you on the project, even though it was a long and wild ride! You've been such a great person to work with and have always been so open to learning how to do things on the website, in addition to having the Church's mission at heart. Those are things that are simply invaluable.

I'm sure we'll talk again, but just thank you for your time and effort into all that you do for the Catholic Church!

Hello again,

Sorry to bug you on this, but our bookkeeper is writing checks and I want to make sure you’re paid.

I went through the contract and some of our emails and came up with this:

Contract for New Website $5600-5950
5 hours extra content @ $70/hr = $350
Daily RSS Feed Add-on $150-250
Hosting $360 (increased from $300 to go to 10GB.)
Domain $30
Revised Mobile Menu $115

Even using the highest number on anything with a range, I come up to $7055. What am I missing?

A couple other questions too please;

what is our bandwidth?

Future work is at the hourly rate of $70? It says $50 after launch in our contract.

Support Moving Forward
You do also have another 2 weeks from your launch date to call and ask us any questions for free. After those 2 weeks, the paid support will go into effect. Paid support is $70/hr (prorated) and is billed monthly to the parish with each support items (date, amount of time, notes) itemized out.

Thank you, Nichol

Good morning Nichol,

I will check in with the billing department to see how we reached that number.

Hosting & Bandwidth
Your hosting package includes 10GB online storage and 30GB monthly bandwidth.

Support & Future Work
In 2020, we updated our support rate to $70/hr. Since your website contract was signed in 2018, it would not have reflected this change.

I will let you know what I find concerning billing and get back to you!

Response continued below:

Hi Nichol,

The forward did not come through on Basecamp, but if you could please send the message to webdepartment@diocesan.com, Mary will be able to help you to determine if it is spam and how to best prevent spam from getting through.

Hello,

I'm having a little trouble finding a revision I made on this page. I updated it today with two studies that are coming up, but I wasn't quite ready to publish them, so after saving (clicking update) I reverted back to the previous revision. When I went to check if I could toggle back to the new revision, I could no longer find it. Have I lost my work? I didn't think any revisions were ever actually erased, so perhaps I'm just not looking in the correct spot. I was on this page:

Thanks for any advice you can offer.
God bless,
Nichol Swift
