The way the featured image shows messes with the actual content (not your fault), but the image buttons help alleviate that issue by being able to have the buttons without having the featured images on the page. (Example below)

I had to modify the Block JSON in the Parent Theme (a bad, but unavoidable, practice here), and I also had to rebuild this Block from the ground up.

But everything should be good and responsive.
