As an update, we were able to successfully import the fields into the new Events custom post type as we had hoped. The snag that we are running into is that the data given in the test.xml does not have a unique identifier. This means that any duplicated events (like Mass times) were seen as a single event, resulting in only 55 of the 100 events being imported. 

If you could please provide us with the contact information for EMS, we will be able to figure out if repeating events have unique identifiers or if there is another way that repeated events are marked so that we can pull them in accordingly.
