Unable to display images for any of the feeds, due to how they're set up.
I had to switch from Diocesan's Daily Meditations to Franciscan Media's daily meditations since they display their images correctly in their RSS Feed. :(

This would be an option for any post category, so instead of adding it to theme settings, it would be a field in the post category editor. I know that KB has set up default featured images for categories within the category editor, but don't think that he's done it with multiple. Still, he could help with this starting point.

They want a slider created that yes, would be used on the homepage BUT as a CPT slider that will use a shortcode. 

  • slides to next image at midnight Pacific time
  • homepage will use a slider like this for Daily Readings
  • inner pages will use them for various events & news pages
