Correct.  Simply put, the mockup does not match the data provided.  The Diocese only provided Priests, so there's no need to differentiate.

If this changes we can adjust accordingly, but for now, the data does not support having a Deacon filter.

Ryan,

The mockup looks good.  I'm sorry for the confusion we caused by giving you an incomplete file.  How do you want the list of Deacons provided?

Connie Wisdo Connie ,

Okay, we can add Deacons relatively simply.  I'll have to circle back on the Clergy module and add functionality to the filter system.

From an import perspective, I'll be adding it to the priests/clergy table, so I'll take care of the ins and outs on that front.

What you'll need to do is fill out this sheet:

deacons.xls - Diocese of Scranton

A few notes on a couple columns:

-Bio is optional, and currently not used in Find a Clergy or Find a Parish
-Location applies to "write in" locations, meaning Parishes that aren't in Find a Parish.  There's no good way to import the ones that are paired with Parishes in the system, and probably easiest to simply edit the Deacons and give them assignments after Import.
-Media URL is optional, and can just be the file name.  You could edit the Deacons and upload images after Import, but if you pair them up on this sheet we can apply the images at Import.

Find Clergy has been re-worked to support Rank.  Priests and Deacons are now supported as filters.

Ryan,
Sorry to bother you on your time off!

I have additional Deacons to upload, about 74 of them, assigned to parishes.

Can you dump the parish database so that I can see the IDs?  That way, when I upload the Deacons, I can indicate in the Location column the parish ID.

Would this make things easier for you?  Otherwise, when I upload them, I'll be putting in the entire name and address (or at least the city) of the Parish, and then you'd have to match them to the existing Parishes in the database.

Please let me know.

Thank you!

Connie,

IDs are the right way to go, but there is a separate table that handles the assignments. So to pull it off you really want 3 tables... clergy, parishes, and assignments. The alternative would be you assign them after upload of just the deacons.

Ryan,
That’s fine, I can assign them afterwards. It shouldn’t take long with only 75 of them.

Thanks,
Connie
