Notes
Hi Ryan,

We just noticed that some of the masses, specifically holy days are not showing up for Worship Sites.  St. Patrick's Church in Nicholson is one such example.

Where would you like to see these?

The design is not conducive to four types of time information (Mass, Reconciliation, Adoration, Holy Days).  The approved mockup was for two (Mass & Reconciliation).

Hi Ryan,

Holy Days below Masses
Adoration below Reconciliation

If this presents a problem please let me know.  Appreciate it!

Update - Looks like we didn't plan for dayless Mass times.  That's the wrench in the system.  If a day of the week is added, Holy Day will show.  I think this is one of those things that slipped through the cracks.  Originally I'm fairly certain we intended for day of the week to be required.  When it came to importing Mass times, Holy Day information was not requested but was provided. I'll see what I can do about accommodating this.

Many thanks!

Connie,

We made a few adjustments to account for Holy Days.  Holy Days will be times only.  Internally, we'll set Holy Days with a day ID of "99" so that the system sees a day (even though we aren't using it).  When it comes to listing them out, we'll simply list all the times under the Holy Day category.

Initially I thought I was going to have a bigger display issue, but it turns out it's not that bad.  The available space is the primary determining factor as to what will fit. I selected to leave them going across if space allows, and wrapping them if space isn't adequate.  I felt like this was the best of both worlds, allowing for some flexibility, and avoiding layout challenges where a site all but Adoration, or missing Reconciliation.

Currently, there are only a few worship sites that have all four types.  St. Martha, part of Holy Spirit, is one such example.

Hi Ryan,

Thank you for this good work.  Was this adjustment for Holy Day masses applied to all worship sites?  The reason I ask is that Holy Days are not showing up on the Find a Mass display for any worship site.

The Cathedral of St. Peter is one such example.  There are 5 holy day masses in the Sites database, but none are displaying:

Hi Ryan,

We are not seeing any Holy Days or Adoration times on https://www.dioceseofscranton.org/find-a-mass/

I do see them when I click on Details and Directions for Holy Spirit Parish.

In the case of Saint Martha Church, they are listed out of order, i.e. Reconciliation times are listed first, then Mass Times.

In the case of Saint Adalbert Church and Saint Mary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, (same parish) Mass Times are listed first, then Reconciliation Times, then Holy Day.

Mass Times should always be listed first on the display for any worship site.

Mass times are listed first in the Sites database for the St. Martha site, as well as the other two sites listed above, so I'm not sure why they are out of order in the St. Martha Church display.

Did you do that on purpose to get our feedback on it, perhaps?

Thanks!

Connie,

Getting back to these...

My apologies I thought you wanted to add the Holy Days to the individual site pages, and not the summaries on the search/list page.

I should be able to add them, but fitting them could be an issue since real estate is slimmer on the search pages.

As for St. Martha showing Reconciliation first, I'm not sure why that is.  That was not intention or intended to be an option.  I'll look into this.

Identified the bug that was causing the order of types to get out of sync.  Turns out we weren't actually sorting by type, just site and then day.  Martha was a case where the Reconciliation Sunday 9am sorted before Mass Sunday 9:45, and exposed the flaw.

I've updated the sorting so that we are indeed sorting by groups.. 1) Mass Times, 2) Reconciliation, 3) Adoration, 4) Holy Days.

Great. Thank you, Ryan!

Yes, Ryan, it would be most useful to have Holy Day masses on the Find a Mass search/list page. If screen real estate is an issue, I would opt to drop Reconciliation and Adoration times, but keep Mass Times and Holy Day times, since mass days and times, are used as the primary search filter on the Find a Mass page. I.e. people are using the Find a Mass function to find masses, and not necessarily reconciliation or adoration times.

Thanks!

Connie,

This was actually done yesterday, I just never got around to notifying you.
Connie Wisdo
Ah yes, Ryan, I just realized why I didn’t see them today…

The heading of Holy Days is showing up in the right column and the holy day mass times are showing up in the left column.
Here’s a screen shot of the very first Worship site: Annunciation Church, on https://www.dioceseofscranton.org/find-a-mass/. It illustrates the problem. And, FYI This isn’t affected by zoom level. I tried it at 80%, 90% and 100%. Maybe a wrapping issue?

And here’s an example of Adoration Times display gone wrong on the Church of the Holy Redeemer display on https://www.dioceseofscranton.org/find-a-mass/

So sorry. You’re almost there!

Connie,

Please clear your browser cache.  I saw those issues yesterday and addressed them.  You're seeing the stylesheet version prior to adding those fields to this page.
Connie Wisdo
Yes. That did it!

Wonderful!
