Good news is that WooCommerce provides shortcodes for this very function. I just had to manipulate the category list a little to show this page.
Of course, they overhauled the products short code system (for the better) in 3.2, and already updated their documentation. Unfortunately, their documentation didn't mention that, otherwise this would have been done rather quickly.
The free ones showing on DEV appear to be broken products. There was no SKU, no price, published on Jan 1, 1970. Looks like a fumbled import during testing.
