Website Content
Hello Joe,
I am Veronica, the Content Specialist here in the Web Department. I know we want to move all your content asap, so we don't have to worry about every losing anything, so I have a couple questions for you.
- Am I moving all pages?
- On your initial consultation, you said yes, but I like to double check before I move it. Sometimes parishes reconsider.
- Is everything on your website current?
- If yes, perfect!
- If no, that is something your people can edit after the website is build, but before the launch.
- Should I be expecting new content as I begin moving things, or does the website pretty much stay the same? I don't want to re-move pages I already moved because of edits. If there are pages that are updated often, I will just leave those for last.
If we haven't already said this, thank you for choosing to work with Diocesan. I'm looking forward to working with you and creating a beautiful, easily-functional website.

Good Day Veronica! Thank you for your work on this...please don't hesitate to call me at 937.266.8990(M) if you have any questions... this email also works well - I monitor it often... the mobile number and our landline here in Florida (941.778.7683) have voice mail. Let me address your questions in order:
1. Yes - please move all the pages
2. Yes - I keep the website current - we're a small parish in a retirement/tourist location and have no school, so there are few events and changes
3. No - there should be no new content for the new site that isn't on the current site - that said, both our pastor and office manager retire in April - after that there may be some changes but I'd guess you'll have completed the transition before those retirements occur. Typically, only the calendar and significant events pages see many changes.
I understand Diocesan like to use Google Calendar - I've created a gmail address and duplicated all the calendar events from our current site to it. Happy to give you access if you'd like, but there are relatively few items and infrequent changes - I've tried for a year to encourage the parish to use a central calendar to avoid conflicts, but that hasn't happened yet... you can either link to the gmail account or I can just maintain the calendar on the new site - makes little difference to me.

Hello Joe,
I wanted to wait until after I moved the site over to reply to your email. Everything looks great so far, but I noticed that there were some blank or missing content. I made a list of things your new website still needs. Let me know if you have any questions.
- Staff - Needs emails and photos (if possible)
- Liturgical Ministries - Information on EEM, Lectors, Cantors, etc.
- Finance Council - Short paragraph explaining what the finance council does and when they meet
- Parish Council - Short paragraph explaining what the parish council does and when they meet
- Sacraments - Contacts for Baptism, as well as how to schedule one (contact parish office, contact specific person, etc)
- Chapel -Pictures of the Chapel (Also, is adoration or a weekly Rosary held in the Chapel?)
As for the Google Calendar, yes, Diocesan prefers to use them. Most parishes only put their recurring Mass times, Confession time, Adoration and sometimes ministry meetings (if they are always on a certain day of the month). So no worries about not having a lot of content. We are aiming for a site where people know to look at the "News & Events" area to find current news and events!
If you could please send me your Google Calendar ID (here are instructions on how to find your calendar ID), that would be perfect.
For future reference, when you update your Google Calendar through calendar.google.com, it will automatically update on your site. (It will normally take 2 hours for changes to appear).

Ah yes, "missing content" ... have not had a lot of luck getting things like job descriptions or common calendar cooperation from the schedulers... we're mostly a volunteer parish with only 4 employees (including the pastor) ... I'll make another run at it in the AM.... office is closed on weekends, holidays (as was Monday) and the first day of the business week for counting the offering (today)... I'll be back to the office in the AM... Let's just say that ISO 2001 isn't strong.... will send you the calendar link in the AM

Good morning Joe,
I know how you feel. I used to work at a cluster parish as one of their three employees. So, I know how hard it is to get things done when they aren't an obvious and immediate priority.
The good news is that for the most part, I can create descriptions for councils and liturgical ministries that are general for now. That takes a couple things off your plate right off the bat, plus you can always edit it later. As for other areas that need descriptions, if you could get even a list of important things (meeting times, contact, target audience) then I can write up the descriptions.
The other good news is that I can create a post category for Liturgical Ministries (and any other ones needed), so that anytime there is a post about trainings, sign ups, volunteers needed, etc; you simply check a box and it will automatically post to the Liturgical Ministry page as well as the default homepage news.
The best thing about this is that you don't have to constantly update the page with who needs more liturgical ministers, when meetings and trainings are, etc. You're already adding posts, so we try to work smarter, not harder.
I know that you will send me the calendar ID when you get the chance, so if you need help with anything or have any questions until then, let me know.

Joe,
Yes, sorry. That was on me. I forgot that you have to make a calendar public before it can be used on the website.
For the descriptions, feel free to just send them to me as text in an email. I am just going to copy and paste it over anyways.
Yeah, Google just updated their calendar to a new version and actually still has a lot of users that are refusing to update to the new version until mandatory. That said, most of the parishes I work with fall into this category, haha.
Thanks so much Joe,

Understand.... seems like it's always a struggle to get users to upgrade - even when operating system security is an issue....sigh.

Good Morning Veronica.... had a bit of a family problem that caused me to travel to Cincinnati last week for our daughter's surgery - some serious complications, that providentially were resolved at the University of Cincinnati ...
Have not heard anything from you about the St. Bernard's web site development... how's it going?

Good morning Joe,
I am so sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope she is on the road to recovery and I will keep her in my prayers.
As far as the development, your website is next in line for Kyle, one of our developers. As much as I wish we could begin working on a website as soon as we get it in, we do have a development queue dependent on design approval dates. Fortunately, content takes ~10 hours as opposed to ~30 hours of building, so I complete content a lot quicker than developers finish building.
That being said, I have moved all the content over and once the developer gets to about 80% completion on the website, he will be sending you a link to view the website.
Thankfully, this should be in the next couple weeks, and then things will progress rather quickly (viewing the site, training, build updates, your content updates, launch, etc).
Until then, let me know if you have any questions about the content, or if you think of any forms that you would like me to create for the parish.

We got design approval about a month ago and I figure you may/should? have a dev link by ~ April 20, if not sooner. Does that sound about right?
That sounds about right, I should be able to do that.
Thanks Veronica!
