Launch Date?

Hello Rhonda,

Just wanted to check in with you to see if you had a launch date in mind for the website. A reminder that it should be between Monday - Thursday. Also please give us at least a week's notice prior to launch so that we can make sure that everything is good with the domain and launch preparations.

Thank you and have a Happy Fourth if I don't hear from you before then!

Hi Cody, it’s going to be a few weeks before we launch. We have so much to clean up with the content and we are beginning to work with that as I speak. Unfortunately I only have 10 hrs per week to devote to the new site and am still trying to learn how to do things. I will keep you posted.

Speaking of new things, can you tell me how to add new menu items under the Our Parish Page. It is under the about parent page.

Thanks

Rhonda

Hello Rhonda,

Sounds good! I will follow up in a couple of weeks then.

To add menu items under Our Parish Page, all you need to do is to add more items under/above the Our History menu item and as long as they are indented to the right of the Our Parish menu item, they will show under there when you click Save Menu. So you could add a custom link or other pages to the menu, drag them up underneath the Our Parish item and then just click Save Menu.

Greetings Cody, I hope you had a good July 4th. Mine was very hot and I tried to stay cool as much as I could. I am working as much as I can with the new site and if you have time, would you look at a few of our pages and see if I am doing things right.

Secondly, I am really struggling with how to get the images to work within the space, especially on the staff pages and on some of the other pages. Most of them seem to cut the image off at the top. I crop the image but it still does not work. I need your help in trying to figure out a way to make the images work within the spaces they are inserted. Any suggestions, guidelines or thoughts you can give is greatly appreciated. Frankly, I have spent more time of working with the images than anything else and it should not be that complicated.

Thanks for your assistance.

God Bless,

Rhonda

Cody, I noticed that there is 1 page that did not migrate over to the new site. Rather than me recreating it from scratch, would you be able to move it over?

The items on the below page should move over to the new site under Resources, Books.
https://stbernardappleton.org/wp-admin/post.php?post=673&action=edit

I appreciate your assistance and please let me know if and when you are able to do this.

Good Morning Rhonda,

Sorry about the delay in the response.

Are there any pages in particular that you would like me to look at? If so, please send links or instructions for them! It is hard for me to tell if I did the page or if you did it, so that may be a good sign.

As for images, they can be tricky. For the staff page, the site wants a 3 by 2 ratio, so that the image is landscape format. As it is currently set in the Theme Settings, the site will take the center center of the image and fill in around it. So, when cropping images through Wordpress, you can look at the little squares and see where they intersect to make that the focal point of the image. (See image below)
As for other images for the featured image or things like that, it is just best to use an image that is fine being cut-off. The site will also take the center center of the image as the focal point and fill in what it can around it. Aesthetic images are best for those places. So images with words or ones where you want to see them completely should be added in the page content.

Lastly, I did add that page's content to the Book Study page (link here). Let me know if you want me to copy that content over to that Book page too, but you could have the same page in the menu twice and that would make it so there is only one source of truth and prevent you from having to update two pages when something changes.

Let me know if I need to clarify anything further!

God bless,

Thank you for responding. Actually I wanted the book information on the Book page, not on the Book study page. If you let me know how to do it, I can move it over.

Thanks

Hello Rhonda,

I have added that content to the Book Page. In the top right corner next to the Cog icon are three vertical dots for "Options", if you click on that, a dropdown will appear and close to the bottom is an option to "Copy All Content", I just clicked that and then pasted it on the new Book Page.

I have a few questions or shall I say help with a few areas:

1. I set up a new page https://stbernardappleton.diocesanweb.org/im-new/ and in this page I have two individuals that have added and the link to their email is not working. When I click on their name where I have the link, it takes me to "no page found". I'm not sure what I did wrong. Can you tell me what I did wrong?
2. In the worship/sacraments/prayer page, https://stbernardappleton.diocesanweb.org/worship-sacraments/prayer/, about 1/2 way down the page after the prayer requests narrative, it shows 2 tabs with images (Adoration & Stations of the Cross) corresponding to each tab. When I click on a specific tab it brings in the content information for that specific page. I created a Holy Hour page and would like to add that as one of the tabs and I can see how the tabs are added to the page. Can you provide directions on how to update this page?
3. Under the ABOUT heading, there is a sub item called Our Team, that is an automatic link to the staff page. I would like for that to have a new heading called "Parish Leadership". Under Parish Leadership I have one sub item (Pastoral and Finance Council). I would now like the Parish Staff to be another item under Parish Leadership and . Here is the flow:
About
-Parish Leadership
--Parish Staff
--Pastoral and Finance Council

I think that is it for now.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Rhonda,

  1. You need to add mailto:[insert email address here] for the links. I did Deacon Mike's, so that you can see what I did for it. You should be able to do it for Andy's.
  2. Seems like you have been able to figure this one out. Holy Hour page just needs to be a child of the Prayer page and the Prayer page needs to be set as the tabs page. The way to edit the Holy Hour page is through the backend and then find that Holy Hour page in the List of all pages.
  3. I just added another empty custom link as a heading for it and moved and renamed the Our Team link to Parish Staff. Then I updated the Mega Menu to reflect those changes.
I hope that helps! Do you know when you would like to launch or at least put a tentative Launch date on the calendar for the site, Rhonda?

Good afternoon Rhonda,

I hope you have been well.

I am reaching out on Cody's behalf to see if there has been any discussion about a launch date for the website.  Earlier this month it was understandable that with the 4th of July looming, things were getting a bit hectic.

Is there a date that would work for you, or are we still not quite there yet?

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you!

Greetings, thank you for reaching out for Cody. I realize he contact me earlier this week wanting to know about our launch date and I did not respond because I needed to talk with my Parish Leader to see if we could launch without having the site exactly the way we wanted or if he wanted to wait until it was close to being the way we want. Here is where we are:

Our goal was to go live within the first few weeks of July. Unfortunately there were many edits that needed to be made after our last training session (June 24) and a new learning curve it has taken a little bit longer. We are still learning how to do certain things and realizing some of the things that we originally thought were going to be available, actually are not so I am trying to find a workaround. Cody has been very good in responding to questions and tips on how to correct things.

I do have a few questions about when we launch.

1. Will our address stbernardappleton.org still be the same?
2. Will our old site not be available? If so, is there we can have it at least available as a review site for a month or so for us only, not for the public.
3. Are you waiting for the launch date to send us a bill. If so, what is the actual bill to date?

I’m hoping and looking at the first week of August, but want to make sure we are ready.

I look forward to your response.

Blessings,

Rhonda

Cody, I am trying to set up a page that has an image either right justified or left justified or even centered in the middle of a paragraph. If you look at the following page https://stbernardappleton.diocesanweb.org/im-new/testimonials/, you can see something like what I want to learn and do. I can't see to find how this page is set up. I can't figure out the format. Can you provide me with directions please. We are getting close.

Thanks

Rhonda

Hello Rhonda,

When you add an image block above a paragraph block with text content already added, you can then justify that image to the left or right and it will wrap the paragraph text around that image.

Let me know if you need any more direction with this!

Hello Rhonda,

I realized I forgot to respond to the previous message in response to Alan's message.

1. Will our address stbernardappleton.org still be the same? The domain will stay the same.
2. Will our old site not be available? If so, is there we can have it at least available as a review site for a month or so for us only, not for the public. Once the website is launched, the only one that you will be able to see it is through the web archive. (Linked here) If you go web.archive.org, I think you can also have it archive your site, so that it is more up to date.
3. Are you waiting for the launch date to send us a bill. If so, what is the actual bill to date? I will check with Alan and Gary about this.

I have tentatively scheduled the launch for the site to be Wednesday, August 4th. I will confirm that with you late next week though.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Have a great weekend,

Hi Cody, thank you for your email. I will do my very best to get most of the site done the best I can by August 4. I know we will continue to modify or tweek after we launch but we don’t want it to be major.

Did you get a chance to look at my previous emai?

Thanks

Hello Rhonda,

Sounds good! There should have been earlier reply (it shows as sent), but here is the content from it:

When you add an image block above a paragraph block (with text content already added), you can then align that image to the left or right and it will wrap the paragraph text around that image.

I just saw your previous email. I’m sorry but I am just not getting it. I did one and it worked correctly but I have no idea what I did step by step.

What is the 1st block you add and then do you add another block after the 1st one? If you don’t mind, can you give me the step by step please. Sorry

Rhonda
TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Hello Rhonda,

  1. Add an image block with the image you want left/right aligned.
    1. You may need to resize the image to a Medium or 50% the Large size in the Block pane on the right side.
  2. Add a paragraph block(s) with the content that you would like to wrap around the image (this will depend on the size of the image)
  3. Click the image block again and in the toolbar for the image, select the alignment you want (left or right).
  4. The text should auto-wrap around it in the page editor
  5. Click Update button in the top-right
  6. View page
  7. Make adjustments as needed (image size or paragraph lengths and things like that)
Hope that helps!
I am heading out for the day, but I will answer any other questions on Monday morning.
