Content Migration for St. Matthew (Charlotte, NC)

Hello Heather and Antoinette,

I wanted to introduce myself, as I will be the content specialist on your new website.

With the design approved, I'm sure y'all are excited about being one step closer to a new and improved website!
Before getting too ahead of ourselves, as Kevin may have mentioned, I will be moving your previous content over to your new site. In addition to moving over your content, I strive to create pages that will be simply for you to update and intuitive to your parishioners.

Your current content (found here) is where I will be pulling content from.  I may also be pulling photos and events from social media accounts. The following are the accounts I am aware of. Please let me know if there are more:
Honestly, I am really thrilled to be working with a parish that utilizes their social media to their full potential; frequent updates, followers, involvement, etc.

As far as what I will need from you, I had a couple questions:
  1. Will I be moving ALL previous content, or are there only certain pages you'd like moved over? I know right now you have ~90-100 pages, so I simply wanted to double check before moving anything over.
  2. Can I begin moving content right away, or are a lot of your pages frequently being edited? If so, we can set up a date at which these frequently-edited pages will be finished & can begin being migrated.
  3. Is there a Word Document/list for the Site Navigation, or will it be the same as your current site? This may have already been discussed, but I have just been added to the project and wanted to have a clear menu/site navigation
  4. Could you explain to me the Mass Schedule? It is more out of curiosity than anything, haha.
I noticed you have Main and South campus Masses. Are your Church grounds large, or are they on a school campus?

Throughout this process, I encourage you to call our Web Department if you have any questions or concerns.

Again, thank you for choosing Diocesan and I look forward to helping create St. Matthew Catholic Church's new website.

Hi Veronica,
Thanks for your email, we are so excited to get started. Below are the answers to your questions, to the best of my knowledge.

1. We will be moving all previous content- we have a lot of pages because we have a lot of ministries ☺

2. As long as we still have access to our content and it’s available to parishioners, you may start moving content right away. The only part that is very frequently edited is Parish News column on the home page. If that can wait as long as possible, that would be great.

3. Here’s our site navigation: About Us, Sacraments, Get Involved, Safe Environment, Giving, Join the Parish, Parish Calendar, In Memoriam, Contact Us

4. This will kind of answer Mass schedule and our property in one. We have a very large campus with a church, chapel, gym and parish center building, classroom building, and school. We hold Sunday Masses in our church as well as one overflow Mass in the gym. We also have a satellite campus about 10 miles south of our main location where we hold Sunday masses. The school is on our main property, but it is run by the Diocese of Charlotte. Here’s our Sunday Mass schedule:
Main Church: Saturday vigil 5:30 pm Sunday 7:30 am, 9 am, 10:45 am, 12:30 pm, 5:30 pm
Parish Gym overflow Mass: Sunday 10:45 am
South Campus: Saturday 5:00pm Sunday 8am and 10am
Daily Mass in the Chapel on the main campus at 7am, 9, am and 12:10 pm, with the exception of Wednesdays during the school year, when the 9am Mass is instead celebrated at 8:15am with the school in the main church.
Saturday daily Mass in the main church at 9am.
If you need any more info, please just let me know, and I’m sure we will be in touch very soon! Enjoy your weekend!
Peace,
Heather

Heather,

Thank you so much for responding so quickly!

  1. I have no problem moving all of your pages. As I may have already mentioned, as a Catholic, I think it's awesome that there are so many ministries and social media outlets for parishioners!
  2. For the News & Events, I will move some as I begin filling out the site so the homepage will be filled out, but once we hand off the site to you, it will be up to you to move over as much or as little of the most recent posts.
I will try to move over recent ones right before handing off the site, but it would take more time (aka cost more) for me to move over ALL the updates than it would be worth.
  3. Will Faith Formation, Ministries and Support be moving under Get Involved?
  4. This explanation helps so much! Thank you

Thank you again for working so well with me.
I will contact you if anything else comes up and will try to keep you up to date with our progress.

Let me know if you need anything until then,

Heather & Antoinette,

As I have been organizing your pages for the menu, I have realized that there are duplicates of pages. For example, there is Family Assist under Ministries and Family Assist under Support.

With your new site, you are able to link to the same page in both the Ministries Menu and the Support Menu. (One page, but multiple ways to get there in the menu.)

This would not only speed up your site, but it would also make it easier to update.  With this in mind, would you like me to delete the duplicate pages?  I would, of course, combine information or use the page with the most content. We don't want any information getting lost in the process.

Simply let me know,

Hello Heather,

Good to know about your work schedule. I will make note of this.

As for the duplicate pages, I will begin pairing down. I think this will make it a lot easier for you to keep things updated.

Thanks again,
