Mary Immaculate Parish - Plainfield, IL

Content Update

Good morning,

This morning I was going over your new website content and realized that we have not yet moved some items over. Before beginning, would you like us to move the following content:
  1. Homily Podcast
Are these audio files uploaded to the website, or are they stored in iTunes or another program?
  2. Past Parish Missions
I see there is one from 2018, 2014, 2013, and 2012. Should recreate all of these pages or only the most recent 2018?
  3. Pastor's Blog
Will Father's blog be staying as a link to his separate website or are we bringing it all into the single website? Right now, we are simply linking off to his current website, just as your current website does.
  4. Mass Archives
We are currently displaying your Vimeo channel, along with the first 25 videos, on a page. If you'd like us to create separate pages for each of the Mass Archives years, please let us know. Diocesan typically moves items 2 years into the past (In this case 2016-current), but if you'd prefer more, we can see how much time we have left in the budget and go from there.

Thank you,

Hi Veronica,

I just answered the questions you had in order.

1. Our audio files are uploaded to the website from a Google Drive. The Mass videos are uploaded to Vimeo, and transferred over to our website.

2. Can we do all of the Mission videos? Since they aren't weekly videos (like for the Mass) it would be nice to have all of them.

3. The Pastor's blog can stay as a link. His blog is pretty simple in how it looks, so I'd rather keep that separate.

4. Let's go with the 2 years into the past. I would be shocked if people were watching Masses from back in 2012.

If you have any other questions, please let me know. Look forward to seeing how it looks tomorrow!

Thanks,
John

Hi John,

Just an update:
  1. We have a way to display a Google Drive folder's contents within a page of the website, as long as the folder is set to public. Would you be comfortable displaying your audio files in this way? If not, that is fine and my follow-up question is if you prefer to upload the audio files into posts or if you would like to share the folder with me so that I can upload the files.
  2. I have moved all the Mission videos that were there. The only one missing was Advent Mission 2014 with John Angotti.
    https://www.smip.org/ParishMissions
  3. I have left the Pastor's Blog as a link.
  4. I am still working on moving over the Masses, but will only bring over 2017-present.
  5. I have moved all of the 2018-current bulletins for now. Did we want to move over 2017, as well?
  6. All but the Adult?Youth Formation ministries are now transferred and the ministry sections have been added to the menu and each is using the accordion templates to display the individual ministries. The remaining Adult/Youth Formation ministries will be on the website by the end of the day.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Hi Veronica,

Thanks for the update! I was looking around and everything looks really good.

I guess I wasn't quite following the first question you had, so I just want to clarify. The Google Drive folder would have to be set to public so you could access them and upload each time we added audio files?

If I were to be uploading the videos and audio to the website, would that be super labor intensive process? If it's like the other posts, I would imagine no, but the main concern I would have is that we don't have a consistent day/time that the videos get made for us.

Thanks,
John

I'm glad you're liking what you've seen so far.

To determine which route may be the best for you, do you plan on having the audio homilies display within your app?

Hi Veronica,

I apologize for the slow response. I think it might be a nice touch to have them be displayed on the app, but we wouldn't have the Mass videos.

Often times, we don't have a specific day when the homily/Mass video gets completed. How would that work on your end? Is it something that when we put it in the file, it would automatically kick over to the website and app?

Thanks,
John

If we were to make a Homilies post category, you would simply follow these steps:
  1. Create New Post
    1. Title Post
    2. Upload/embed video/audio file into content
    3. Set to Homily post category
  2. Publish
Once you published it, it would display on the website, under Homilies, as well as pushing it to the App.

An example of this is the app for Our Lady of Mercy in Aurora, IL.

Let me know if you would like me to set up the post category for you and give the RSS feed link to the App team.

Hi Veronica,

Let's go ahead and do that then. If you could also give me a call when you have a second. I was trying to update something on the homepage, and there wasn't a spot for it to be edited anywhere. My number is 815-436-2651 x810.

Thanks,
John
