Link to Development Site & Training
Good morning Kat & Fr. Ivan,
We have reached the point in the development process in which we share the link to the development site with you. First, I wanted to go over the missing content from the website and then get into the training and development site.
Training
The first training typically takes ~2 hours and is done remotely via Diocesan's version of TeamViewer. At the beginning of our phone call, I will walk you through how to set up the remote access program.
During the training session, we cover:
- How to edit the homepage content
- How to edit the footer
- How to edit the menu
- How to create/edit inner pages
- How to create/edit posts
- How to create/edit/use image galleries
- How to create/edit/use online forms
- Any other questions that you may have
Since this can be a lot of information, we typically break it into two sessions:
- Editing the site basics (pages, posts, menu, homepage)
- Editing the additional site features & answering follow-up questions (forms, galleries, etc.)
This is completely up to your learning pace and how much you feel comfortable covering at once.
Development Site Link
Something to keep in mind is that the site is not quite completed yet, with the largest thing being mobile responsiveness. That said, it is best to look at the development site on a desktop computer, rather than a laptop or smaller screen. Mobile development/responsiveness is something that the developer completes after the training so that he can update any changes along with the original development.
If you see anything that alarms you (design or functionality), please let me know and we can address your concerns.

Hi Kat,
After attempting several times, both parish and school websites and a few variations on the password, I was still unable to login to the website and obtain the photos. I was wondering if there was a different login that would work to get those photos from the site.

Hi Kat,
I have made the parish registration online form (with conditional logic, so it responds to previous answers) and have added the staff pictures.
I was wondering if you had photos of Jose Velez, Kathy Burrier, and Father Ivan that match the rest of the photos for the School Staff. I have added some photos for each of those people, but ideally, they should not be permanent, as Kathy is a stock photo still, and Father Ivan's and Jose's are pixelated since I had to enlarge them to fit the space and match the rest of the photos.
If you have those pictures or even bigger photos for Jose and Father with the stain glass background, then I can match those, otherwise swapping them out later is pretty easy.
Thank you!
If you have any more questions or comments let me know.

Hello Kat,
I just wanted to follow up with you about your websites. I hope that you have had a chance to look over your new sites (Church and School). If you have noticed anything that doesn't look right, please let us know and if possible include the link to the page in question.
I also wanted to reach out to schedule a date and time for your first training session, so that you can update the site and create pages, posts, galleries, forms, etc. once the site is passed into your hands.
Lastly, I had a question about your site. We have set up a few different categories on your site and brought over the most recent posts from those categories from the old site(Splendor of Our Faith, Reflections of the Heart, Next Generation Parish, and others). I was wondering if you wanted to display the Authors for those posts or if you wanted to add it in the actual text. If you wanted to display the authors, did you want them above or below the content? Also, let me know if that is for all categories or just a select few.
Let me know what days and times work best for you and if anyone else will be present at the training as well. As always, let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you,
Cody Armock

Hi Cody, I was going to write you yesterday but have been busy catching up from vacation. How long is training and how many sessions, ect?
Looking to do it on Friday, June 21st (9:30am), that seems to be when a few of us are available. Does that work for you?

Oh and Praying of the Word does not need the author listed but the other two do ...
Reflections from the Heart (by: Fr. Ivan Olmo)
The Splendor of Our Faith (by: Fr. Blake Brittion)
I think display at the beginning of the content.
On another note, Can a video be displayed on the header for the school?
Here is a video that we would like added somewhere and I thought maybe the header but not sure. What do you think??? https://www.dropbox.com/s/h55cgc58u56p9zd/shortversion.mp4?dl=0

We will schedule for June 21st at 9:30 AM EST. I will be sending the meeting information shortly.

Author and Video Answers
I will leave the authors on the posts then. I did not have them on for the Daily readings since those are coming through an RSS feed.
For the video, having it as the header would be problematic for a few reasons.
- It is a large file (148MB), so any time someone would come to the site, the video would slow down the loading of the page by a very large amount, even on a fast connection.
- I would assume you would want it as an autoplay video and there is no way to have it autoplay with the sound that is considered good practice by Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing would not show your site).
- Even without autoplay, the best way to have the video that large is as a YouTube video that we embed. However, even as a YouTube video, which solves the autoplay problem and the large file problem, we run into a problem with the design of the homepage and the aspect ratio of YouTube or other video services. There is also the necessary build hours for our developer to make the header able to accept a YouTube video and have it function correctly.
My recommended solution is to have it be a YouTube video on the Welcome page with a Button on the Homepage Header that directs to the Welcome Page. This solves all the problems from above plus more, such as being able to update it in the future and having the Homepage Header available for other things like Slider Images, Text, and Links. Plus, it allows the developer more hours for other issues and mobile responsiveness.
If we are going to do it this way, which I would highly recommend over the other, more problematic way, all we need from you is the YouTube link for the video. Here is a how to for uploading a video to YouTube in case you need it.
Let me know if you have any questions over anything in this lengthy post and if you are okay with my solution for the video!
Thank you,

Hi Cody,
We just had our team meeting this morning and it was requested to move up the training to Tuesday, June 18th at 11 a.m. Is that possible? We would most likely have everyone in the same room and it would be 4 people. Then maybe have the follow up that Friday, June 21st (already scheduled). The school has a lot of data that needs to be updated and we need to go live with this website soon because of school registration.

Good morning Kat,
We've actually got another training from 9:30-10:30 am and 11-1 pm next Tuesday, the 18th. However, we are available at any time after that. As for the second training, we typically wait one week after the first training. We have simply found that this gives everyone ample time to begin editing the site and gather their questions that can then be asked and answered in the second training.
The launch date of the site will also be at least two weeks after the first training so that the developer has time to fix any issues that may come up as well as testing and developing Mobile Responsiveness for the site.
I had a question about the YouTube video and your response: did you mean to say to have the "Homepage" Slider Button that links to the video on the "Welcome Page" (the solution proposed) or did you mean to have the YouTube video on the actual Homepage instead of the Image? The latter, unfortunately, would not work for the function or design of the site. I just wanted to clarify your response.
Please let me know how you'd like to proceed with training and with the YouTube video!
Thank you,
Cody Armock

* Yes, this one: the "Homepage" Slider Button that links to the video on the "Welcome Page" (the solution proposed)
* Fr. Ivan wants to be on this training and that Tuesday, 6/18 (after 11 worked for him) so can we set it up for 1:30-3:30? Then maybe the next one the following Tuesday, 6/25 9:30-11:30 (tentative: I have to check to see if that works for him).
* Also, we would like the Sacraments listed as a drop-down selection.
* I have a question about the registration that you changed for us to be completed online. How will that info come to us? In an email? Automatically download into PDS?

Hi Kat,
I have added the YouTube video to the Welcome Page. It will be aligned center after the developer fixes that.
I have rescheduled the meeting for 1:30 pm-3:30 pm on the 18th. Will there be anyone that is not in the room that I would need to conference in? I will put you down for the 25th at 9:30 am-11:30 am, if anything changes, let me know.
I have added the Sacraments as a drop-down. As per the proof, they all to the Sacraments page, but go to the section of that page.
The information from the form will come to you through an email that will list out all the fields that were filled out on the form. Unfortunately, there is no way to have it automatically download into PDS, but can be manually transferred from the email rather than typing.
Let me know if you have any other questions,

We plan to have everyone in the same room.
The drop down looks good but we need each Sacrament on its own page (like it is currently on our website).
Once we go live our website address will be.... www.stmaryrockledge.org (http://www.stmaryrockledge.org) (dropping the 's')...right? Just want to be sure because we are changing some of next years documents.

Good morning Kat,
Cody can separate out the Sacrament pages, but are we correct in understanding that you don't want the Sacraments Page to look like the Mockup at all, but rather ONLY as separate pages? Or would you prefer us to keep both the Sacraments page AND the individual pages?
You are correct about the domain. We have purchased stmaryrockledge.org for your use. Since we are discussing it, we do have some questions about the domain:
1. If someone does not put /church or /school, which site would you like stmaryrockledge.org to default to?
2. Also, to double check, are the following domain naming scheme correct?
- stmaryrockledge.org/school
- stmaryrockledge.org/church
- stmaryrockledge.org/fair
3. Where is stmaryfair.stmarysrockledge.org currently hosted? Since we don't have a design for it, are we correct to assume that it will stay with its current hosting, but will use the new domain?
4. Additionally, who should we get in contact with for the login information to your current domains? That way we can set up the appropriate redirects from your old domain to your new one and set up any DNS changes for the fair website.
Thank you,

Good Morning!
The tabs for the Sacrament page looks good. I thought separate pages would be necessary but I think it may work the way you set it up since it goes to the Sacrament that is clicked. I will ask Father this afternoon at our training and see what he wants.

Hello Kat,
We can most definitely move the launch date to Wednesday, July 10.
While Diocesan does have your new domains, we do not have your current ones. We have Chandler Myron listed as the current domain contact.
We will be sending him an email now to let him know of the rescheduled launch date. I will cc you on this message so that you are aware of his response.
Thank you,

Hi Kat,
Chandler responded the same day but didn't cc you. Sorry I didn't catch that!
He said that the day and time works for him, so I will be emailing him the information today and then getting in touch with him Wednesday morning just to make sure there aren't any questions.
Thanks for keeping up with that!
