Design Introduction

Hi Neil, Greg, and Cris,

My name is Danae Chudy and I am the web designer at Diocesan Publications assigned to your project! I'm just emailing you to let you know about the design process. Currently, I have a few projects ahead of you in the queue but in the next few weeks, I plan on reaching out and setting up a design consultation. This consultation will give me a better idea of your vision for the website and other design elements you require. Please let me know if you have any questions in the meantime.

I'm excited to start working with you and I look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks,
Danae Chudy

I wondered if you had time this week or next week to set up a meeting to talk about the website design and other design elements you require for your project?

Hello Danae,

I hope all is well. I have attached our logo. We basically have the colors green and white as our parish colors and the aqua blue color was used on our website to match the color of the tiles of the roof of the church. I’m not quite sure how the dark green will look against the black background of the website

God bless,

Neil Kennedy

Great! I wondered if you have the original file (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)? I just wondered because this one is a little pixelated. Also, I will plan on adding the title of the church next to the icon.

Thanks!

I could vector it in illustrator, but I do not have an original file.

I have received some feedback on the demo site that you have been working on. Most of the staff comments I have received are very positive. However, one staff member did ask how would this site be bilingual. I remember addressing that with someone along the way, but you and I have not discussed this. I wanted to bring this up in case this had an effect on the design of the site.

God bless,

Neil Kennedy

Yes, it affects the design a little bit. Did you know what kind of translate system you want? A lot of times we recommend Google Translate but we also have PolyLang. Here are the differences:

Here is a PolyLang Site: https://stbernadettecc.org/
  • Manually translate content & you decide the layout, text, and images for everything
  • Allows for different menus depending on the language
  • Homepages can have different content (see homepage images & Parish News section for example)
  • Create an English & Spanish version of pages.
This means that the content doesn't have to be the same so if there can be different contact people for different languages. So you can have English-speaker's information on the English version of the page and Spanish-speaker on the Spanish version.
  • Create English & Spanish version of posts
  • Spanish pages get their own URL's (links)

Here is a Google Translate Site: https://stjulianacatholicchurch.com/

Please let me know which you prefer and we can decide were a translate button might go.

Thanks,
Danae

Hi Neil and Greg,

I wondered if you had any free time this week for a design consultation? I would love to show you what I made for the logo and the rest of the website.

Please let me know!

Thanks,
Danae

Sure. Thank you so much. How does Thursday sound for you? I am available all day.

I also have received some good feedback from parishioners and staff:

Smaller pictures in boxes on main screen so that more of the boxes fit into a single screen

Smaller contact us form with what will happen when someone hits “submit”

Videos on each screen above fold

Down arrow to indicate scrolling after fold

Word "menu" above/below hamburger menu icon

Some of the menu items on the top can be reflected on main page, with a little more info like https://www.churchnativity.com<https://www.churchnativity.com/>

We can go over what this means in more detail.

God bless,

Neil Kennedy

Hi Neil and Greg,

It was great talking to you both today! I made some changes to the wireframe since we talked. You can view them here: https://xd.adobe.com/view/a73a2222-6d6f-4715-5dbd-4da164b217b0-d10b/

On the homepage, I tried to repeat titles so it became a little overwhelming with the number of boxes. So I created a few different options. I did not update the mobile verison just to save time until we figure out what the desktop version will look like. Please let me know what you think!

Also, for the accordion page, it might be too much with photographs behind the texts. So I created another grid layout with the different sub ministries. Let me know what you think.

Tomorrow I might play around with the different Facebook feeds and figure out what looks best for that news/announcement page. Stay tuned!

Thanks!
Danae
