Lakeshore Catholic Community (East Tawas / Oscoda, MI)

Login Path Changed

Good morning Father Tyler & Lanny,

I hope your holidays went well and you enjoyed the time away.
I simply wanted to inform you of the change we have made to the login path. For security reasons, we normally change the login path to your city name. In this case, we left it as since we were trying to get the site up and running ASAP for you.

As of this morning, the login path is now "/lakeshore" since it is Lakeshore Catholic Community.  Your usernames and passwords will remain the same.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask,

Thanks Veronica!

We're having a staff meeting Thursday and I'm introducing the website to everyone and establishing some new communication procedures and outlining our plan to introduce the new website to parishioners.

Thanks,
Fr. Tyler

That sounds like a great idea, Fr. Tyler.
It gets everyone on the same page and allows them to answer the parishioner's basic questions about the site.

If any questions come up in the meeting, I would love to help.

One thing that I've noticed about the design of the homepage is how the Current Events shows. Is it possible for the the date and time to display under the name of the event? Because right now always three events show - but if there are less than 3 events per day than events form multiple days show up and it is difficult for people to know which day an event occurs.

Thanks,
TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
Father,

Yes, I see what you mean. Even right now, there are two "Mass" events, but we are not sure what time or day they are.

I will ask Michael the developer to fix this.

Let me know if there is anything else that needs to be changed.

Take a look at this page. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to get them so the are all in line 3 pictures per line.

Also, Lanny is going to email you today, too. But she hasn't received the log in username and password yet. I checked the administrator email [admin@hf-sh.org (mailto:admin@hf-sh.org)] and did not find any log in information.

Thanks,

Father,

  1. I have changed the calendar events on the homepage to show the date and time. Hopefully this solves the issue of confusion.
  2. The view more link for the Bulletins is now going to the correct page.
  3. As for the Clergy & Staff page, this is something we will have to fix through coding. Michael is currently busy but I have made him a to-do and a reminder about it. I will let you know when it is resolved.
  4. I have sent Lanny her login information. Does Richard Copeland also need his login information sent to him?

Yes to Rick Copland needing the information.

Thanks for all those minor updates. It is really coming together. I'm hoping tomorrow's meeting with the staff goes well. I'm going to take them through a whole tutorial on how the website works (front end) so that when people call with questions all the staff is one the same page.

Thanks,

Father,

I will send him an email with his login information in the next hour or so. I will be sending it from my valvarado@diocesan.com email so it will not be flagged as spam or anything like that.

Father,

The email I have for Richard (rcopeland@hf-sh.org) bounced back with an error saying the email does not exist.
Was there another email I should send his information?

I am about to leave for the day, but will re-send his email tomorrow morning,

It is rcopland@hf-sh.org (mailto:rcopland@hf-sh.org)

Sorry about that.

No problem Father.
I have sent his information to his actual email.

Veronica,

I wanted to let you know the Staff Meeting went very well. The staff was really excited. We had a very productive meeting for over 2 hours. The main topics were: Keeping the calendar accurate, communicating out to the parish in multiple ways (bulletin, website, app, bulletin boards, emails, etc), and finally we brainstormed some ways to officially launch.

On Jan 17 at both parishes we're meeting with the "heads of state" that is all the leaders of parish groups and organizations and introducing them to all the new features and communicating to them the new calendar protocols.
Then the weekends of Jan 27-28 and Feb 10-11 after all the Masses at both parishes in the Social Hall we'll be leading a "HOW TO" introducing the website, the app, and online giving. In the Social Hall we have a smart TV so we can hook up a computer and a phone and show everybody. We're also developing a written brochure with some pictures and helpful hints.

People are already finding the site and commenting! And over 10 people have already stumbled upon online giving and started. Pretty awesome since we haven't done anything official yet!

Check out the HF side of things. I've made some changes to the menu and created some new pages. Let me know when you think. Still a lot of content to finish but I'm getting it done bit by bit. I'm way behind on the Sacred Heart side but its easier for me to finish the HF side and then in one fell swoop change the SH side. I added Stewardship tab and added content.

Some things we noticed:

* The links on the landing page don't work
* Can we separate the buttons on the landing page a bit so you can see the cross?
* I found a widget supported by wordpress which allows us to add a FAQs section to a page. I want to do that on the online giving page and on the baptism page. Can we add that widget to our site? https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/faq-widget/

Thanks so much. We're so excited as we get closer to launch.

Once I get everything set up (more or less) I'm going to work with Lanny to make sure she's comfortable with using the backend.

Fr. Tyler

Father Tyler,

I have added some to-dos for Michael and will ask him to get them done by tomorrow.

As far as the plugin, were you wanting https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-faqs/ or https://wordpress.org/plugins/ultimate-faqs/? I think Ultimate FAQ may be easier for you to work with, but Easy FAQs could work just as easily.

I completely understand about it being easier to finish one side then move on to Sacred Heart. Plus, this way you won't get confused going back and forth between the two.

The Stewardship page & its children pages look great. The menu looks good the way you have set it up. More so, it's wonderful that you have been adding content to the site!

Let me know if you notice anything else that needs touching up!

I have gone ahead and added the plugin. It should show up in your dashboard.

I am not very familiar with the Ultimate FAQs Plugin, but this should be the shortcode used to pull up the FAQs.
[ultimate-faqs]

If you have any questions, I am sure that I can help you with that.

Good morning Father,

What page are you putting the FAQ on?
TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Father,

I found the page you were putting them on (Online Giving).
I also went online to see if there were any other similar issues and found that this is quite common. Apparently, it is almost as if your demo is purposely problematic so that you will pay for the Pro version.

Since this is not what we want, I am currently testing Acronix FAQ and moving your questions over.

I will email you in a bit to let you know if it is working.

Thank you,

Veronica,

Things are coming along on the website. We met with the heads of all parish groups and introduced them to the new site and how to get information to the website editor (Lanny).

On the Knights of Columbus page there is a shortcode that allows posts of the KofC category to appear. How can we do that for the CCW page? I found the WP post shortcode generator on the page editor, but it doesn't show all the category options (with CCW).

Thanks,

Fr. Tyler
TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Father,

That's wonderful! I am so glad that everyone is learning the process and that the site will have so many people contributing information.

For the CCW to have a Show Posts shortcode, I first have to enable your access to the plugin. I will do that now and send you a list of instructions on how to create a shortcode to put on the Council of Catholic Women page.

  1. In the Dashboard/Backend, there is now a second pin icon under "Posts" titled "WP Show Posts"
  2. Click "Add New" under "WP Show Posts"
  3. Enter title as prompted
  4. Change "taxonomy" to "category"
  5. Change "terms" to "council-of-catholic-women"
  6. Click the window looking tab on the left
    1. Change number of columns as needed
  7. Click the photo looking tab on the left
    1. Check or uncheck images (KC is unchecked)
  8. Click the paragraph looking tab on the left
    1. Change content type as needed
  9. Click the bulleted looking tab on the left
    1. Uncheck "Include Date" and leave "include Author" unchecked
  10. Click the settings cog looking tab on the left
    1. Change "Order as needed
    2. Change "Order By" as needed
  11. Click the blue "Publish" button
  12. Copy shortcode and paste onto desired page
If you have any questions (or want to do this together over the phone) let me know!

Thanks! I got it to work just fine. I just mirrored the setting for the KofC news feed. I like having those news feeds up so it will make it easier for Lanny to keep those parts of the website with current information.
TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
Oh, most definitely.
Sorry I didn't give you guys access to that before.
Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming for people, but you seem to really be going at it and making huge strides. That's great!

So we are officially starting the launch this weekend.

I've attached the handout and posters I made that we'll use to put something in people's hands. We're inviting people to the Social Hall where we have a TV where we can mirror the screen and show people the website live and myParish app. So wish us luck!

We've already had a couple people use the form 'Join our Parish'. The only problem we've encountered is that no email notification came through. Did I set the form up right? Maybe an extra pair of eyes will help me find the problem.

I had a couple more lessons with Lanny and she is gaining confidence. She's already starting to receive emails of updates for the websites.

Thanks!
Fr. Tyler

TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Father,

The fliers look great! Did you do these yourselves?

For the "Join our Parish", the emails are going to "sacredheart@hf-sh.org" and "holyfamily@hf-sh.org" so I am not sure why they are not working...
I just changed where the emails are coming from, so that may work.

I assume that since they are not going through, you are currently looking at the forms through the "Entries" option under Visual Form Builder?

Yeah I made the flyers and had them printed locally.

Yeah I noticed the forms were filled out from the dashboard.

Veronica,

I created these pages:
https://hf-sh.org/holyfamily/about/parish-news-events/
https://hf-sh.org/sacredheart/about/parish-news-events/

With our parish slideshow (googleslides) that people can see on screens in our gathering space.

Could we change the link on the home page 'Read All News" to this new page? It is part of the template so I don't think I can do it myself.

We've been getting good feedback from our website so far. People are using it!

Thanks,
