Content Strategy & Sitemaps

Good afternoon Carrie,

I hope you have been doing well since you last spoke with Alan!

My name is Cody Armock and my role here in Diocesan's web department is as a content specialist. This means, that in addition to going over what areas of your current website are staying or going, I also help you find the most effective way to layout your website. I will be helping you in this process from now until the training before the launch of the site.

This not only helps us build you a website that is easier to edit and manage but also allows anyone visiting your website to accurately and consistently find the information for which they are looking.

Below are links to Google documents of your current and proposed sitemap. The current sitemap shows your current site's menu structure and flow. The proposed sitemap is what we suggest for your menu based on our previous experience and what would work best in terms of usability. The proposed sitemap is created to optimize the flow and look of your site.

You can edit the proposed sitemap however you would like, adding pages, removing pages, etc. The proposed sitemap will act as a guide for the content migration process. Please edit the document directly to ensure that the same edits stay throughout all versions and that the content migration process is accurate.

FROM THE CLIENT Carrie Hamberg, Joseph Parish and School - Cold Spring, KY Staff
Hi Cody,

We had a meeting today to discuss the proposed sitemaps for school and church. Most of us are very visual people so we were struggling with the site map but we did our best to give you feedback. You will notice that we updated the documents.

We all agreed that we prefer the "buttons" format instead of the drop down menu format. Like this example website that was sent to us:
https://joseph.diocesanweb.org/faith-formation/

Here are the questions that we have:

1. What does the section "All Resources (If Any)" mean and where would that be? We are thinking we won't need it but not sure
2. We like the idea of having a "Parish" and "School" button on the front page and then have separate school and parish landing pages. Not sure if that's what is proposed.
3. On the Parish page we like the idea of having a "I'm New" button. If we have this then we may not need "New Registration" in the footer?
4. We realize that a lot of our current content on the website needs to be updated - especially in the sacraments section. How does that work? Do we wait for you to load what we currently have and then update? Our current website is not easily updated so I would prefer not to try to update all the content on the old site before it is moved to the new site.
5. Will we have the ability to put videos on the webpage without first having to post to YouTube?

Thank you for helping us through this process!
TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Good Morning Carrie,

Thank you for reviewing it!

1. The section All Resources could possibly be a page with links to those different options or with links to anywhere that you would want, but you can always take it out if you don't want it.

2. There will be a Landing Page that is separate from the Church & School. We have an internal note about it, but it didn't really fit with the sitemaps, so I didn't include it.

3. Sounds good! You will be able to change the footer links, the homepage buttons, the menu options, etc. after the first training, which will be after the content migration has been completed.

4. Yeah, I can move what is on the current site now and then you will be able to edit it after the first training (which will be before launch). We will go through how to edit pages and it should be easier than the current site.

5. You can put videos on the site, but we recommend uploading them and pulling them from YouTube as it will save space for the site and can increase the loading speed of the page. However, it is possible.

Let me know if I need to clarify anything!

Have a great weekend,
