Content Strategy

Good afternoon Fr. Barr,

I hope you have been doing well since you last spoke with Nathalie.

My name is Cody Armock and my role here in Diocesan's web department is as a content specialist. This means, that in addition to going over what areas of your current website are staying or going, I also help you find the most effective way to layout your website. I will be helping you from now until the training before the launch of the site.

This not only helps us build you a website that is easier to edit and manage but also allows anyone visiting your website to accurately and consistently find the information they are looking for.

Thinking about content before the design is important because it will make the design process easier and tailor it better your needs. It is similar to building a house. Content strategy is figuring out how many bedrooms and square you need when picking floorplans. The design process is the customizing of the space (walls, flooring, exterior, colonial vs modern, etc.) Content Migration/Creation is the filling of your rooms with furniture and possessions. Without the content strategy process, the house may not suit your needs.

Below is a link to a live, Google document of your Current Sitemap that you are able to edit directly. Please go through this Sitemap and make the appropriate edits to display what pages you'd like Diocesan to migrate, as well as removing the items that you do NOT want Diocesan to move.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ju4zpbiKxMNQgqtLdSls9bUpEsVFY0jooVnbLWlVTP0/edit?usp=sharing

Once you have completed editing the pages you'd like Diocesan to migrate, please let me know and we will begin making a suggested sitemap for the new site based off of your current sitemap. The suggested sitemap is created to optimize the flow and look of your site. We will then send you the suggested sitemap to edit and change as needed and then approve it. Once you approve the suggested sitemap, we will begin the design process. Danae, the designer, has already reached out to you. In order for her to provide the best design, it is important to revise the Current Sitemap. Once that is completed, she will reach out to you to schedule a meeting to begin the design consultation process.

Thank you for choosing Diocesan and we are very excited to work with you on creating a new website for you and your people at St. Joseph and St. Mary Parishes.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Good afternoon Fr. Barr,

I wanted to follow up with you and see if you had gotten the chance to review and edit the current sitemap:

That way, when it is done, we can go ahead and make a suggested sitemap for the new site using the current sitemap and our previous knowledge and expertise to optimize the flow and layout of the content on your site.

Let me know when you are done editing the current sitemap (renaming, adding, and removing items) and if you have any questions.

Cody, i think i am done with editing the sitemap. aI let Veronica know as well.
I do have one question as well. I think that the new site will have one slide section that has all news and parish happeniings together. I would like to separate that somehow. Many people will want to just look at what is going on in the community. But i also want news feeds from National Catholic Register, the vatican, the diocese of Rockford as well as any other thing i would like to post at the time. What can be done for that?
TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan

Hello Fr. Tim,

I believe this is the proof you are referring to here: https://xd.adobe.com/spec/c73e8717-8e57-4912-4163-97571ff0033a-b10f/screen/8b0de704-03d3-4745-aa6e-ea34f25b893d/News

We can have multiple categories of posts like Parish News, Parish Events, Diocese of Rockford, etc. that we can set up where posts can go into one or multiple of these categories and have different pages, that look like the proof above, but are filtering based on the category, so a page for Parish News, another for Parish Events, another for Diocese of Rockford. These are called category pages and have one for each of the categories that can be linked.

Let me know if this answers your question or I need to clarify anything else!

Thanks Cody. I think this will work. Will se how it looks on the page, practically speaking.
TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Fr. Tim,

I understand. I think that will work, but it is hard to visualize without experiencing it visually and seeing it in action. I will write a note for the developer to style out the category pages and then you can see it in action later on in the process.

Thanks,

Cody Armock

Veronica, the sitemap looks good. I think the web site password is currently ***SacredHeart1***. I am pretty sure i updated the code to include the symbols and number one. otherwise try just, SacredHeart. God bless you!

Thank you for approving the sitemap, Father!

Unfortunately, when we tried logging in with the information below, we were unable to log in.

email: frbarr@gmail.com
password: ***SacredHeart1*** or ***SacredHeart***

Is there another email address that we should be using?

Sorry about that, it is **SacredHeart1** (only two asterisks on each side).
TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
That works!

With this, we should be able to pull all the posts and move them over to the new website. Is there any date range that you'd prefer us to pull? (All time, the last 2 years, last 3 years, etc.)

Last two years would be fine. I would like to get all the homilies, but not sure how much that would take.

We will definitely see what we can do!

Good afternoon, Fr. Barr,

I have found a couple of questions while going through your old site and migrating it to the new site.
  1. Do you have the form documents that are meant to go on the different Sacrament Pages, e.g. Baptism Form?
  2. Under Education on the current site, is a couple of prayer pages that are rather lengthy: Prayers Page and Pro-Life Prayers Page
    1. It seems that the Prayers Page was taken from the Devotions Section of EWTN and the Pro-Life Prayers were taken from St. Paul Church in Pismo Beach, CA. We could have links to these websites/webpages instead of having them hosted on your site.
    2. Otherwise, we can migrate them to your site, but we would have to do it at the end and see how much we can get done with the remaining hours in the budget for Content Migration and have them either as accordions or as plain text with links to the headings.
If you have those forms, please send them over to us at webdepartment@diocesan.com because Basecamp sometimes has issues with attachments. Also, please let us know what you would like us to do with the Prayer pages.

Thank you,

Cody Armock
FROM THE CLIENT Fr. Timothy Barr, Joseph and Mary Freeport Staff
Thought is would start a new thread. You masked about the forms I might have. Here is what I have so far. You may choose to format them for better use on the web site. Also working on getting the dates out of the RE forms so we do not have to keep updating every year, but will se what the RE director says. How complicated is it? also schedules for RE and RCIA. Not sure if best as a pdf or on the web site.

TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Hello Fr. Barr,

Thank you for sending us those forms. I will see after migrating the pages and posts how much time I have to work on making those form online fillable ones. As for removing the dates and replacing them, doing them on the website and changing that date out would take merely a minute or so. It would be erasing the old date and typing the new one and that process is very quick.

While on the subject of migration, did you decide what you wanted to do with the prayer pages? Here is a bit more explanation about that issue:

Under the Education Menu on the current site, is a couple of prayer pages that are rather lengthy and would take a while to move over and format to look good. The Pages are the Prayers Page and Pro-Life Prayers Page. So we could proceed in one of two ways:
Let me know what you decide with the Prayer pages!

I was exporting the posts today from your site, but it sent a download link to your email, so if you could send those (should be two of them) over to us at our webdepartment@diocesan.com email address, then we can begin adding those to the website.
