Development Link & Training

Good afternoon Laura & Liz,


We have reached the point in development at which we share a link to the development site with you.

Training Sessions
The first training session typically takes ~2 hours and is done remotely via a screen share program. We will send over the meeting link and phone number in a later email. 

During the training sessions, we go over:
  • How to edit the homepage content
  • How to edit the footer
  • How to edit the menu
  • How to create/edit inner pages
  • How to create/edit posts
  • How to create/edit image galleries
  • How to create/edit online forms
Since this can be a lot, we break the training down into two sessions:

Session 1: Editing the site basics
Session 2: Editing the additional site features & answering follow-up questions

This is completely up to your learning pace and how much you feel comfortable covering at once. 


Development Site Link
Something to keep in mind is that the site is not quite completed yet, with the largest thing being mobile responsiveness. That said, it is best to look at the development site on a desktop computer, rather than a laptop or smaller screen. Mobile development/responsiveness is something that the developer completes after the training so that he can update any changes along with the original development!


Other than that, if you see anything that alarms you (design or functionality), please let me know and we can address your concerns.

Hi Cody,
Thank you for sneak peak!
Liz has been prepping for a golf outing the parish is having tomorrow and I am preparing to leave for vacation July 23- July 31. Liz and I would like to sit down and review the website together the first week of August. At that time we will discuss dates for training.

Initially we had requested in-person training, is that still possible in our covid world? Please let me know what our options are for training. We want to be sure all the staff get the best training possible.

Unfortunately, due to Covid, we are not doing any trainings in person!

For training, we will most likely use Zoom conferencing. That way I can still walk you through it and even record the training so you can reference that later on when you are doing the content on your own. I look forward to scheduling with you after the first week of August!

This information will help us in our planning. Having the training recorded will actually be very helpful.

On August 5 we have our staff calendar planning meeting. It would be helpful to know if you are scheduling out into the fall months or still in August, that way we can give our staff ideas of when to block time off.

Hi Cody,

Just following up with you. We got set back with other things happening here at the parish.

Liz has been very busy with the finances of the parish so Gail Assenmacher, gail_assenmacher@stjos.com (mailto:gail_assenmacher@stjos.com), will be stepping in for Liz to work on the site with me. Today Gail and I did a quick review of the site and came up with a few items that we would like changed, but we both want to do a more thorough check and I would like to run this by Fr. Brendan just in case he has a major change he wants made.

It is our hope to get back to you by the end of the next week with our thoughts and hopefully some dates for training.

Hi Cody,

Sorry for the delday. I finally had a chance to sit with Fr. Brendan and look at the website.
It was well received. I few items to add on the home page:

* Where the facebook logo is can we add an envelope logo to contact us at info@stjos.com (mailto:info@stjos.com) and a phone log with our office # 734-426-8483?
* Is it possible to add Dexter, MI under our logo? For some reason recently we have been contacted by people from all over the country - calling to register as parishioners, calling for religious education information, to add sick people to our prayer list. We aren't exactly sure how we are popping up on their search.

I think all other changes we can address once we are trained.

So training dates -
Fr. Brendan is asking that Gail Assenmacher, Darlene Cresson and I get trained and then we can help other staff. The three of us all do admin work so the best week for us would be September 28-October 1 (Fr. Brendan will be out most of that week so it should be a little quieter for us). If that week does not work for you we can take a look at the following week.

For training - will it be best for us each to be on a computer or together on one computer screen?

I have added the envelope icon and the email address. I have also made a to-do for the designer to see about adding "Dexter, MI" to the logo. 

As for the scheduling of training, I am available most of that week, 28th-1st between 10AM and 4PM, (starting training at the latest at 2PM) and Friday, the 2nd between 10AM and 2PM, (starting training at the latest at 12PM).

That will work. Separate Computers can often be easier, but if you have a conference phone you can call in with that, and that will prevent some audio issues and some feedback.

The site is nearly launched, it still might take some time for things to propagate, to make sure that Google will crawl the site, better Search Engine Optimization. The IT person just needs to add a TXT DNS record with the following value:
