Hello everyone,

My name is Danae Chudy and I am the web designer at Diocesan that will be working with you on your new web project. I am reaching out to let you know that we are nearly ready to begin the design process. 

Over the next week or so, I will begin designing a homepage wireframe based on the notes from our initial meeting. Once I have completed this wireframe, I will reach out to you to schedule a meeting time for us to look over the design together. 

In the meantime, if you have any additional files of your logo or high-resolution images, please email those over to me for use in your designs.

Thank you so much for this. I am attaching our logo. Our mission statement is in our signature block of this email. We have a diverse student body and share our communications in Spanish, Vietnamese, and English. I imagine we will want to include some translation tool on our website, if possible. I am including Marty Best on this reply in order to see if he has a quality copy of the "Resurrected Jesus" image the parish uses that he can send to you. I can send our logo for our parent organization, if that is helpful. However, I would like to see about updating that logo to better match the school "look." We also need to coordinate the shades of purple and gold in use.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for meeting with me today! I enjoyed meeting everyone in person.

Here is a list of video shots that would be beneficial to the school's marketing campaign:
  • Teacher and students interacting in a positive environment
  • Avoid white areas or light-colored backgrounds (so you can read the words on top of the video)
  • Students playing on the playground (an element of fun)
  • Show the spiritual side of the school, students saying prayers or attending Mass
  • School pride: students practicing sports, music lessons, anything unique to John Vianney. Best to include people in these shots
  • View of the grounds
Of course, the videographers might have more ideas but there's a list to get you started. We do recommend keeping the video to 30 seconds for the hero/initial image.

You are welcome to put a longer version on the Admissions page or any other interior pages that highlights staff and other elements of the school.

Also, Cody has sent you an email and he will be more capable to answer your content questions.

Thank you for your work on this and your communication here. Before I send this on, I have a question about the very first landing page. We discussed and said we liked the split screen landing page with one side for the church and one side for the school. Is there a reason that is not included? Can it be added?

I sent the previous set of images to our staff and the feedback I received (from one person) is that the sample websites strongly and clearly reflect the schools they represent and include motion which is appealing. The images in our sample do not, of course, as they are not of our content and the images are static. I understand that is not possible without actually building the site -- and this was discussed at our last meeting. Can you let me know how you (or I) might respond to this person to help her see what the final product will look and act like?

I will send this out to our Board and re-send it to our staff and ask for input. Is this the only link I should share with our Board and teachers to gather their feedback? Is there a way to explain the navigation? Is there a way to note what will be video and what will be a picture? Can you note what elements will move/scroll/act as a button to click for more information?

Good morning Linda,

Thank you for the feedback on the landing page! We will make that adjustment to the design.

As for the rest of your concerns, the design link we sent is not the actual site. If you compare it to the difference between a lesson plan and actually teaching the lesson. In a lesson plan, you have a layout of what you want to teach but the execution of that plan is not already carried out. The actual lesson takes shape as the teacher begins the class. The same is true for the design link. The idea is there but the functionality is not executed yet. The functionality: design, navigation, your content - takes shape as the actual website is being built. This is a later stage in the process.

So what this means for the design link:
  • the pictures are placeholders. If you want to see your photos in the design link, please send them to us. Basecamp does not allow attachments so please send them in the body of the email.
  •  There will not be a functioning video in the welcome or 'Hero' area.
  • the navigation menu bar will not be functional, only visual of how it can look. You can navigate the different slides by using the arrows at the bottom.
  • there are only a limited amount of animations that can be done in the design file, but those can be done on your live site.

Lastly, we need your advice on the direction of the design. We want to make this website for you. If the whole design is too much all at once, we can start with sections and move forward from there. If that is the case, we can take another look at the home page and start with short meetings addressing each section at a time.
