Domain Transfer

Hello JPII/MQA Team,

You have let us know that you would like your https://jp2-mqa.org/ domain to be transferred to Diocesan.

There are two ways that we can go about doing this:
  1. Provide Diocesan with your domain login credentials and we will initiate the transfer OR
  2. Your current domain owner can initiate the transfer

1. Provide Diocesan with Login
Below are the things we need for the login:
  • Login URL
  • Username/email
  • Password
Once Diocesan has initiated the transfer, you will still need to send Diocesan the Authorization (EPP) code (emailed to domain owner).  If you believe that there will be an issue with this, please let us know.

2. We Will Initiate Domain Transfer
  1. Unlock your domain
  2. Send us the Authorization (EPP) Code
  3. Send to email webdepartment@diocesan.com
  4. Diocesan initiates transfer
  5. You confirm the transfer
  6. Transfer complete!

Let us know if you have any questions or are having trouble finding who your current domain owner is.

God bless!

Hi all!

I just wanted to check and see if you have any questions about the domain transfer email I sent? Also, here is an updated copy of our site process form for you to review, just so you know what to expect at each stage.

God bless!

Good morning -
Just a quick follow-up on the domain transfer.  It appears the registrar for your domain is gandi.net?  If you would like to share the login information with me, I'd be happy to initiate the transfer for you.

That way, when it comes time to launch the new site, we have everything we need ready and waiting!

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance with the transfer.

Thank you,

Mary

Good afternoon, all -
I'm just checking in on this task - do you need any assistance with determining who holds your domain, or what the login information might be?

We typically like to be proactive and make sure we have this information available well before launch, so while there's no hurry in starting the transfer process, it's good to know we have the correct contact information within the domain account & a working login available to us when we need it.

Please let me know if I can be of any help with this!

Thank you,

Hi Mary,

How do we figure out who holds our domain? I would say, yes we need help with this!

Thank you! :)
TO THE CLIENT Mary Goeldel, Diocesan
Hi, Katie - It looks like your domain may be through gandi.net.  Does that sound familiar at all?

If you go to this page:  https://www.gandi.net/en  there is a login button in the upper right corner and there's a way to retrieve your password if you don't remember it.

We'll need to know the email address for the account - if you don't have that, you can sometimes try calling the domain company directly, and they have a support page here with a chat function that may provide help, also:  https://help.gandi.net/en/contact/

Here's a screenshot showing Gandi as the domain company and it looks like it's hosts on Amazon's web servers.

If that isn't enough to jog someone's memory into finding the domain login, let me know and we'll see what else we can find.

Thank you,

Mary

So could it be
Specialized Computer Solutions, Inc.
They make changes and do updates to our website now....
TO THE CLIENT Mary Goeldel, Diocesan
Yes, they'd likely know the login information for the domain then.  They might even be able to provide an EPP/Authorization code instead of worrying about login information - all we really need is a transfer code (sometimes called EPP code, or Auth code.)

If they currently manage your website they likely have access to the domain.  That'd be wonderful if they can help out with the transfer.

Hi Mary,

I tried to attach you on this email to the company so you could talk to them direct, but your email won’t let it go through. I have tried to email Blake, too and I can’t because of the basecamp email.

Anyways, here is what they said:

Katie, I am working on unlocking the domains so they can be transferred. After that (maybe tomorrow) I will see if I can provide you with the authorization codes for jp2-mqa.com, jp2-mqa.net, jp2-mqa.org. The transfer process may or may not disrupt the website and any @jp2-mqa.org email accounts.

What day do you expect to shut the current site down?
TO THE CLIENT Mary Goeldel, Diocesan
Good morning -
Usually, before we complete a transfer, we'll take screenshots of all of the host records so that we have a copy available.  That way, if anything happens during the transfer and records go missing, we can add them back.  Since you are working with a third party, we may need to do this a little differently, as we are relying on them for help with this process.

Would the person you are working with at Specialized Computer Solutions, Inc. be willing to do that for us?  We'd want screenshots all of the host records and any MX records (which make your email work correctly), nameservers, etc.  We certainly don't want to do anything that would affect your current website or email functions at this time.

Typically, a domain transfer goes through just fine without affecting the current site or email but there is a small chance that there could be issues during the transfer, and then we'd need to adjust the host records/nameservers/etc. to keep things working as they should.

If you prefer, we can wait to transfer the domain until after the new site launches - we would just send the launch instructions to Specialized Computer Solutions, Inc. and they can point to our server at launch time.  That would avoid any issues with email or your current site.  And now that we know who controls the domain records, they are usually willing to help at launch time with adding the Diocesan's server information.  If you'd like to go this route, you could let the person know you'll be launching a new site and that you'd like to hold off on the transfer until after launch - I'm sure they'd be accepting of that.

Let me know if you have any questions about all of this - thank you!

Mary,

Do you have an email other than the basecamp one. I would like to send an email to our people who do the hosting so you can talk to them directly.

Let me know so we can move forward with this!

Thank you

Katie,
You can email me at webdepartment@diocesan.com - it's our general account and I check it constantly.

Thank you!

Good morning, Katie -
Just to let you know, the domain transfer went through successfully and all appears to be well with it.  If you do experience any issues at all, just let me know, but typically we don't see any.  The next time we'll do anything with this is at launch.  Another step closer!  :)

If I don't speak with you before, have a very merry Christmas!

Hi Mary,

Sounds good! Do we have a timeline of when the launch will be? Is there anything else you need from me in order to make launch happen? Just want to make sure we are all on the same page.
