John Catholic Cemetery - Jackson, MI

Cemetery site associated with St. John the Evangelist (Jackson, MI)

Website Content

Good morning Jenny,

I am Veronica with Diocesan's Web Department and I just wanted to let you know that we have been moving along with the cemetery's new website.

Before I get into that, I wanted to let you know that Diocesan now uses Basecamp to send and receive emails in order to keep things organized and easy to track. You can reply to emails by simply replying to this message. You can also view messages by using this link: https://clients.3.basecamp.com/c/bUt6YZg5zCF4DJqg7QwJRKAA. If you are asked for a PIN, please use 0516.

Now, I've got some great news!
It just so happens that when I first started working here, it was around the same time that you had expressed interest in a new website. Since I was new and nowhere near busy, I copied all of your old website's text and put it in a document. This means that although you lost your previous site, your new site will have all your previous content. This should save you a lot of time.

As you discussed with Kevin, the new website will be almost a clone of the parish's website, with a few tweaks that will make it distinguishable. These tweaks include:
  • Logo change
  • Contact information (numbers, addresses, etc)
  • Footer change
We can discuss these changes in depth now or wait until you see the development site (your new website while it is still in the development phase).

A questions I did have was regarding "posts" on your website. Will you be posting obituaries or news to your website? These obituaries/news posts would show on the homepage or on a designated obituaries or news page. Let me know what you think.

In the future, several things will happen.
  1. Once the site is about 90% completed, we will send you a link to view the development site. This is when you can give us feedback and let us know what you would like to change about the look of it.
  2. We will also schedule a training at this time. This training must be done at least a week before the launch of the site. This gives you time to make the necessary content edits and give us time to make any changes you request.
  3. At the end of the training we will schedule a launch date. As stated, there must be at least a week between the training and the launch.

If you have any questions or would like to respond to this email via phone call, simply contact me by calling the number below and asking for me.

Hi, Veronica.

Thank you for reaching out!

Since we are very familiar with Diocesan's work on the parish website, we are confident you can run with the project until we view the developed site. GREAT NEWS about saving the old website's information! I can't tell you how thankful we are that you had the foresight to save it. Kevin sent me a Dropbox to add additional content. We will send a few things over tomorrow and Thursday as we are wrapping up a scanning project today.

We love the idea of having a news area on the homepage where we can post current events, give updates on projects, and let people know what's going on around here in general. As far as obituaries, can we link to http://obits.mlive.com/obituaries/jackson/ instead of tracking them daily on our own? If that is not an option, let me know.

Looking forward to working with you on this project!

Thank you,

Jenny

Jenny,

I also have access to the Dropbox that Kevin made, so that will work. Do you think you could send me an email whenever you add the documents? That way I know when to look for the scanned docs.

We can definitely put posts on the homepage! This will be a great place to show events and general news. For obituaries, we can have that go in a menu tab. That way, if anyone clicks on obituaries, it will take them off site to http://obits.mlive.com/obituaries/jackson/browse (this shows the recent obituaries in a cleaner way).

More Questions
  • Do you have a Google Calendar of your own?
  • What will your contact email be?
  • Are there any social media accounts you want connected (St. John Parish?)

I'm glad you're excited to work on the project! I think it will be a great upgrade that can properly showcase your services to the people that really need them.

Hi, Veronica.

We have a Google Calendar we use for administrative purposes only. I think when I talked to Kevin we decided to skip adding a calendar to the site. What are your thoughts on that?

For our email contact, can we use mine: jenny@saintjohnjackson.org (mailto:jenny@saintjohnjackson.org) for office related questions/concerns and then use Brian's: brian@saintjohnjackson.org (mailto:brian@saintjohnjackson.org) for grounds/maintenance questions/concerns? If you feel we should only use one, then use mine. We are good either with way you think is best!

The only social media platform we use is Facebook. As of now, it's the only way we have been advertising, promoting and sending info to the community. Here is the link to the cemetery's FB page:

Thanks!

And yes, I will email you when we add to the Dropbox!

Hi, Veronica.

We added some images this morning to Dropbox to give you a feel for our grounds and events.

Hello Jenny,

I am so sorry I didn't respond to your emails from Wednesday. It turns out that I left them as a draft and never sent it!

For the calendar, since it is an administrative calendar, there is no need to add it to your site. We will have an area for posts anyways and this can be your way of getting events/news out there.

For the contact form, we can set it up that they select a topic and depending on their selection, it will go to either you or Brian.

Thanks for the Facebook page link and I will check out the images and start spreading them around the site.

Let me know if there is anything else,

Sounds good! No worries! Our scanning project has taken longer than we thought it would so we've been tied up on this end. Wrapping it up today, thankfully!

Have a great day and if you need anything just let me know.

Thank you!

No worries, Sandy. I've got most of your content up and am working on a couple other projects anyways.

Have a wonderful weekend.
