Website Domain

Good afternoon  -

My name is Mary and I am the support person in the web department at Diocesan.  I see the design for your new website is approved and content is progressing - that's exciting!  I like to check in well ahead of launch to make sure you know where your domain lives and that it can be accessed.

It looks like your domain is with Google domains and that you are you planning to transfer your domain to Diocesan for safekeeping.  I can migrate the domain prior to launch, or we can wait until after, but we will need access to the domain account in order to launch the new site.

In order to launch, we must have one of the following:
  1. Domain login information
  2. Domain contact information
By default, we will contact them 1 week in advance to schedule your launch date and provide them with any further instructions.
Domain Login Information
If you would like Diocesan to facilitate the  launch for you, we ask that you please send us the following information:
  • Name of Hosting Company
  • Login URL
  • Username/Email
  • Password

Domain Contact Information
If you have internal or contracted IT services that you would like us to direct in the launch process, we ask that you please send us the following information:
  • Name of IT Company (if any)
  • Name of Individual
  • Email of Company/Individual
  • Phone Number of Company/Individual
  • Account Privileges (if any)

Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is someone else we should get in touch with. Otherwise, we look forward to gathering your domain information to help keep your future launch date on track.

Thank you!

FROM THE CLIENT Fr Chris Rouech, Holy Trinity - Comstock Park, MI Staff
Hi Mary,
I forwarded your email to Dianna Rottiers, our pastoral associate who handles much of our media, and Mike Maquire, our business manager who also serves as our IT person. One of them will be contacting you.

Hi Mary,

I apologize for the delay. I wasn't aware we were moving the domain. Do we have a launch date yet?

I have the login credentials for our domain which are also my email credentials. So I would prefer to share them in time for the launch so that I can change them as soon as the switch takes place.

Thank you!

TO THE CLIENT Mary Goeldel, Diocesan
Hello, Dianna -
I had a task item to migrate the domain so I assume that was decided during the early meetings about the new website.

While it isn't completely necessary to move the domain to us in order to launch a new site, many of our sites do choose to move the domain so that both the hosting of the site and the domain are in one spot - that means one invoice to pay for both, we set them to renew automatically with a very reputable company so no chance it will ever expire (I've had 4 sites so far this year with expired domains - one of them took weeks to recover their access and no website in the meantime, which was very frustrating for them!) and if the church should ever want to move away from Diocesan as host, we provide a authorization code immediately, no questions asked.

We have also had issues with lost domain passwords, accounts with inactive emails, lost accounts, parishioners holding domain accounts that have moved or passed away...basically it's just one less thing that our sites have to worry about if we transfer them to Diocesan - and we only charge what we pay for the domain, there's no upcharge, so lots of "positives" in transferring, but we leave that up to the church to decide - it's not mandatory.

I'll make a note that the developer should reach out to you the day before launch to coordinate domain access.

Thank you,

Mary Goeldel
