Content Strategy & Sitemaps
Good afternoon Kathleen,
I hope you have been doing well since you last spoke with Alan!
My name is Cody Armock and my role here in Diocesan's web department is as a content specialist. This means, that in addition to going over what areas of your current website are staying or going, I also help you find the most effective way to layout your website. I will be helping you in this process from now until the training before the launch of the site.
This not only helps us build you a website that is easier to edit and manage but also allows anyone visiting your website to accurately and consistently find the information for which they are looking.
Below are links to Google documents of your current and proposed sitemap. The current sitemap shows your current site's menu structure and flow. The proposed sitemap is what we suggest for your menu based on our previous experience and what would work best in terms of usability. The proposed sitemap is created to optimize the flow and look of your site.
You can edit the proposed sitemap however you would like, adding pages, removing pages, etc. The proposed sitemap will act as a guide for the content migration process. Please edit the document directly to ensure that the same edits stay throughout all versions and that the content migration process is accurate.
I know that Fr. Colin had an idea for a sitemap and I no longer have that, but I know it was a pretty stark contrast to most other church websites highlighting the four areas of the parish. I have to say that I would not recommend going with that method because I do not think it would make it easiest on the visitors to the website to find things. I just made some minor tweaks to the current sitemap. It did not need a major overhaul and since people are probably pretty used to where everything is. If that is true, then it is not useful to change things if they don't need to be.

Thanks Cody. I haven’t forgotten you and understand your thoughts about the sitemap.
In going through our current website page by page, it’s my opinion that we could pare down written descriptions and make them more concise. Some of the descriptions are very wordy and a website visitor could easily lose interest. It would be nice to add some images.
I’ll discuss with Fr. Colin, Carson, Rhonda and Chris. Stay tuned.

Good morning Cody,
Just giving you a head’s up that I am going to be retiring at the end of the month and relocating to Florida. It was a difficult decision but necessary for us to be close to family.
We received a few e-mails in the last few weeks:
· Email dated 9-21-21 from Arthur Richardson about transferring our domain to Diocesan
· Email dated 10-8-21 from Danae Chudy asking about the type of calendar we’ll use . . . the Google calendar looks like the most easily integrated
· Email dated 10-13-21 Alan Snodgrass that the Design is 15% complete and the Site Copy is 100% complete
We met with parishioner Joe Zylinski this morning. Joe usually sits near you at 4:30 Mass. Joe is a wonderful photographer/videographer and we’ll want to incorporate more visuals throughout our site.
He showed us a website which has a feature we really like: Our Lady of Grace (https://gracewepray.org) We like the “This Week” tab which leads the visitor to upcoming events in the Parish.
At some point, we’ll want to pare down descriptions on each of our pages so that they’re clean and concise. We can always embed PDFs with more information if the visitor is interested in learning more.
So that’s where we are at this point. We appreciate your assistance on this project . . . both as a parishioner team member as well as a Diocesan representative.
Thank you Cody.
Blessings,

Hello Kathleen,
Wow! Congratulations and I hope you enjoy your time in Florida close to family! That is a big transition, but I pray that it is fulfilling and blessed with peace.
Do you know who will replace you as representative(s) for the church and head of the project, so we can get them acquainted with the project and add them to the correspondence through Basecamp?
We can add that tab in there, but it will pull from the site's posts and be displayed differently than the Our Lady of Grace page because of the Robert hybrid design chosen. It would be good to show the Upcoming Events though.
That paring down of the content can happen at anytime, but probably the best would be after the first training and the launch of the site, but could happen after the site is launched if need be.
Thank you,
Cody Armock
