📢 Post Easter Check In

Good afternoon Nichol,

I just wanted to check in with you and see if you had any questions or if we could help in any way. I know we still have the two training sessions left to go through before scheduling launch,

I hope to hear from you soon,

Hi Veronica,

All is well here and I hope the same for you. Everything is on hold until we can get the office open again. I’m working from home, but won’t be able to focus on the new website for a while. I have been spending 24/7 on our current website converting it all to virtual offerings. I appreciate the check in and hope you are doing well.

Happy Easter!

I completely understand! I've got a friend in Buena Park that's been keeping me abreast of California's updates, so I'll reach out once things go back to "normal".

In the meantime, let me know if there's anything we can do.

Happy Easter and God bless you, Nichol. May He keep you safe and healthy.

Thank you, for you as well. Are things returning back to normal where you are?
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
Things have been going well! The web department was very fortunate to continue working from home without too many hiccups and a fairly smooth transition. We had many support requests come in the first two weeks, but things have certainly settled down to normal now.

I've actually been in Texas for the last 6 weeks but am following the Michigan governer's orders for my return. My parents had asked me to drive my sister down for summer since her classes switched to online, so I have just been working from their house. It's been really nice to spend this time quarantined with my family since I normally only see them 3 or 4 times a year.

How have things been for you?

Oh wow, I love hearing how there are blessings coming out of this! I’m so happy that you’re with your family.

I’m working from home and things are well. Since most of my job was on the computer, I can do mostly everything that I always did. Some of our staff have not been so lucky, and our church is certainly suffering from the loss of donations. Some people have been really great to keep them coming in, but Easter will be a big hit. I hope we can get back soon, as I miss celebrating Mass as a community, and I really miss being able to receive Jesus in communion.

God bless you!

I know exactly what you mean. I used to work at the parish here in Texas and am still best friends with the DRE and we were discussing the financial blow to the parish.

Also, I feel so grateful that our parish, while not having public Masses, they are live streaming Mass (with more attendance than the average Sunday!) and has had the church open on Sundays from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm for adoration.

We will certainly be returning to a different world and way of reaching people.

My prayers go out to you and your parish, Nichol.

Hi Veronica,

I think this was the last email from you. Hard to imagine that we haven’t talked in almost 4 months. I want to get our new website up and running but there never seems to be a good time. Is it possible to have a live version of it somewhere on the internet that I can be working on while our current website is still available to parishioners until I’m ready to make the switch? Then I could take my time but still keep moving the ball forward. I’m paralyzed right now because the website it the only form of contact for much of our parish so it can’t be down for any period of time. What is your advice?

Thank you, Nichol

Good morning Nichol,

It's been a long while, for sure! I hope you have been doing well in this time.
I've had reminders for the first of each month to get in touch with you, but "back to normal" just never seems to come.

As for the live version vs hidden version, of course!
With the new website, you will be able to log in and edit as much as you need to, for as long as you need to before launching. So all the updates made to the content of the site are not visible to anyone browsing the web until launch. The development site (https://stgg.diocesanweb.org/) is where you can do this. Once you have completed the first training session, you can log in and edit for as long as you need to.

Then, once you are comfortable with where the new website is at, you can let Diocesan know two weeks in advance, then we can launch the new website!
When we launch the new website, there will be up to 24 hours (normally 2 hours) of crossover time in which the website is not down, but users may see the old website until the new website propagates out completely.

Let me know if you have a specific date in mind for the remote training session (1.5-2 hours) or if you have additional questions!

Oh wow, that is such good news! I’ve been banking on the idea that it would be live and a mess and I’d be working round the clock to get it fixed as soon as I could (which could be months in reality). When can we schedule the training?
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
Nope, not at all! I'm so sorry that it wasn't more clear from the beginning.

I'm available next week, Tuesday-Friday, almost all day but know that the timezone difference may make things a bit more complicated.

If you and any other web editors need a later training time, just let me know and I can check my personal calendar as well.

Here is my calendar:

Please use the arrows to see next week and beyond.
Remember, the first training session will be anywhere from 1.5-2 hours long.

Ok, how about Tuesday the 18th. Would 10:00am PST work for you?
Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan
That works!
I'll be sending out the Zoom meeting information on Monday for Tuesday's training session.

Let me know if you have any questions until then!
