Domain Transfer

Hello Krista and Gretchen,

You have let us know that you would like your http://www.stgeorgeerie.org/ domain to be transferred to Diocesan.

There are two ways that we can go about doing this:
  1. Provide Diocesan with your domain login credentials and we will initiate the transfer OR
  2. Your current domain owner can initiate the transfer

1. Provide Diocesan with Login
Below are the things we need for the login:
  • Login URL
  • Username/email
  • Password
Once Diocesan has initiated the transfer, you will still need to send Diocesan the Authorization (EPP) code (emailed to domain owner).  If you believe that there will be an issue with this, please let us know.

2. We Will Initiate Domain Transfer
  1. Unlock your domain
  2. Send us the Authorization (EPP) Code
  3. Send to email webdepartment@diocesan.com
  4. Diocesan initiates transfer
  5. You confirm the transfer
  6. Transfer complete!

Let us know if you have any questions or are having trouble finding who your current domain owner is.

Hello, Gretchen -
Is this through Network Solutions, then?  Or do you log in at a different website?  The username and password weren't working at the Network Solutions login page.

Thank you,

Is that how you log in to the website to make changes to pages?

In order to transfer the domain, I actually need the information to log into whoever manages the domain, the registrar.  It looks like your domain is registered with Network Solutions.
FROM THE CLIENT Gretchen, George Church - Erie, PA Staff
I am sorry Mary. I am just not sure about Network Solutions? Is it typical that the company hosting the sight would be connected to registration or us? I will reach out to the marketing director at the school to see if she has any info. She worked on our current site when it was a partnership between the church and the school. The school is now a part of the Erie Catholic School System and has a new site as well. Gretchen

Mary: I think you will need to contact Epic about this. The marketing person at school thinks it would be through them. I don’t have that information. OK? GK

Good afternoon, Gretchen -
I was able to get the login information for Network Solutions from Epic - they were very helpful!  I've gone ahead and unlocked them to start the process.

The account is in John Schroeck's name & email account so he may receive notification along the way.

It looks like St. George's currently has 3 domains.

stgeorgeerie.org
stgeorgeerie.com
stgeorgeerie.info

Just to clarify, we want to transfer all three domains to Diocesan, correct?
Transferring them will extend their expiration another year, and we set them to renew automatically so there will never be a worry about a domain expiring.  The renewal fee ($15/domain) is billed along with the yearly hosting fee.

Until launch day, nothing will change with the host records/settings - this transfer will just move the domain over to eNom so that Diocesan will be able to easily access the account when it's time to launch.  At launch time, we'll redirect the other two domains to the primary domain.

Let me know if we plan to continue with all three domains, and thank you for your help in getting access to the account!

Thank you,

Mary
FROM THE CLIENT Gretchen, George Church - Erie, PA Staff
I will also let John know about the email notification.
Yes, my understanding is that you will transfer all three domains and we will pay the $15 fee.

We are set on our end.
THANK YOU!
Gretchen

Hi Mary. I have been in touch with John Schroeck whose name is on the acct for our domain. He received and email from Network Solutions about the request of which he supports. He gave me the user name and password for the domains if you want it from me. If not he can be reached at the email on acct and will authorize. Let me know if you want it from me.

Also: Once the transfer happens how will this affect our ability to upload updates until the new one is launched?

Good afternoon, Gretchen!

Good questions...

I have the login from Epic, and I requested the EPP codes.  I let John know he should be getting the emails with the codes since the account was set up with his contact information.

I'm just waiting on the three emails that John should receive - and each will have a code (just a string of letters/numbers) in it that we need to have forwarded to me at webdepartment@diocesan.com.

Do you know if he's gotten the emails from Network Solutions yet?

Also, transferring the domain won't affect your ability to use the site.  This all happens behind the scenes and your site will look exactly like it does now - it just gives us the ability on launch day to log in and make the changes to the new site.  Let me know if you have questions about what happens when we launch!

Thank you,
Mary

John got the following email (I cut and pasted it below.) The username and password he gave me is a string of numbers and letter? I can share with you if you want. As of this morning he has only received one email so far from Network Solutions. GK

So the emails he received confirm the first step, that we turned off the account locks.  After that, we request EPP codes and usually the emails are sent within a day or two at most.

I may try sending him the EPP codes again tomorrow morning.  Occasionally, registrars may make it so you can't make changes to an account for a bit of time after unlocking or making changes to an account.  Worst case is that they put a hold on any transfer for 60 days if a change is made, so I'm hesitant to update the email on the account if we don't have to!  It can make it so we must wait two months...but, we do have the ability to log in now and make changes to the host record so even if we have to wait a bit to transfer, we'll definitely be able to make the changes needed to launch - and that's the most important thing!  We want to be able to launch on time!

So I'll try again first thing in the morning and we'll see if the transfer codes are sent.  I can always try contacting the customer service at Network Solutions, too.  We have plenty of time to get this accomplished!

Thanks very much for your help -

Good morning, Gretchen -
I'm going to request the EPP code again for the one that did not come through.

Would you be able to forward the emails directly to our support email address:  webdepartment@diocesan.com?

Unfortunately, Basecamp doesn't allow for showing attachments so I'm not seeing the attached items you've sent.  If you could forward them to the email above, that would work best.

Thank you,

We've successfully transferred all three domains to eNom, the hosting service we use, and they are set to auto-renew so all is well!

We now are easily able to access the host records at launch time, which is wonderful - thank you so much for your help, Gretchen!

Thanks Mary: I think I know the answer to this but to make edits to our current site we still use the Epic Admin page...correct?

Yes, nothing should have changed at all until the new site launches.
If you have any issues, just let me know.  Rarely there's an issue with nameservers needing to be updated but it's very rare.  Usually, the domain transfer occurs seamlessly.

Thank you,

Mary

Hello Mary: Just trying to get myself organized here...
What is our status now that we are good on the domain transfer. Are you waiting for anything from me at this point. Just have lost track on where we are.
Thanks for setting me strait!

Good afternoon, Gretchen -
We are all set with the domain transfers, that's correct.  Nothing for that is needed from your end of things.

When it comes time to launch the site, the developer will be able to log into our eNom account and change the settings so that the public sees the new version of the site instead of the current site.

Thank you,

Mary

Ok so in terms of transferring copy and pictures we need to set that up on our current site to be transferred? Sorry if this sound stupid just not sure how to handle new copy and perhaps new pages etc...
