With the holidays, it was difficult to work out the best time for this discussion. Hopefully, we will be able to get the momentum moving now to see progress on the transition to the website.

Hi Blake,

I would like to confirm that Bonnie and I can be available tomorrow for a 2:00 PM EST call to discuss the website transition. Prior to the start of the meeting, I will send a summary of our thoughts related to your list of points for discussion. Also, Bonnie would like to get more details on next steps for transitioning our email accounts to gmail and the steps for migrating all of our current email parish addresses correctly.

In terms of the meeting tomorrow, do you anticipate that we will just need audio for a conference call or will we need to share any screens for discussion. If the later, will you be using GoToMeeting or another product to provide screen sharing?

Please send confirmation conference/screen share info to both Bonnie and myself.

In relation to the meeting tomorrow, here are our thoughts regarding your topic items in the email below: (Bonnie, please feel free to add any thoughts or clarification if you feel necessary)


* What are the goals for the new website?
* Improve the visual appeal of the website -- with fonts that work well on screen and print.
* Consistent navigation throughout the site
* Photos that reflect an emphasis on community when appropriate
* Responsive design that displays content consistently for desktop and mobile without our content providers worrying about it
* Integration of forms where helpful for users to get more information
* Content areas that represent the activities and opportunities associated with the parish organizations


* What is our focus?
* Our focus is our community and strategically, we are hoping to provide a website that becomes a true resource to that community over time. We need to 'sell' the benefits of the site to our community and make them aware of the content resources provided through it.


* Logo/Identity/Color ideas:
* I feel like our color scheme will rely on a blue as the primary headline font and Yellow as the secondary highlight. That is the current color scheme for the parish school site and we should attempt to stay consistent with it. With that said, we don't necessarily need to mirror that site in terms of fonts or navigation concepts, because it too could be changing in the future.
* In terms of our logo, while we could use the present one, I feel that we should be open to a new design of our logo. On our present website, our current logo that incorporates an image of our church with it, requires more screen real estate, because it is the entire image. In our church bulletin, the logo is better in that it just reflects the steeple of the church. We are open to ideas from you design team on the logo.


* What websites you like or dislike

* Love the layout, navigate easily, complimentary graphics, color combination (our colors would work well in) church in the background and people/community in the foreground which reminds me of St. Francis de Sales.

* Liked the simplicity, icons and mostly the video is captivating. Curious if we could use video and stills together - maybe we could work towards. could see the Good Friday clip, Holy Thursday, school concert, etc.

PROs: simplicity and clear tools to navigate website.
CONs: need a better use of background/wall paper color

Hi Blake,

Thanks for taking the time to discuss the kickoff of the design phase for the St. Francis DeSales website today.

In summary, I wanted to itemize of few things that I noted for items that Bonnie or I will need to followup on based on that discussion:


* Phil will talk with Fr. Gene to suggest a review of the copy related to "Our Marianist Parish" to come up with an updated version for new site
* In the meantime, proceed with the current copy as a place-holder on new site
* I reached out to Michel Keidel to inform him that I will be introducing him to Veronica to discuss domain name transfer. I will need the email address of Veronica when you have a chance to send
* Bonnie will share login information for the following resources:
* Streamspot.com login for our parish video content related to masses and sermons
* Machighway.com -- Bonnie indicated that her login only takes her to email mailboxes of parish. If you need access to Machighway.com for the admin of our current website, I feel that will need to be shared by Michel
* Bonnie indicated she was using Tumbler for some content items. I feel that will not be necessary with the new site, so tumbler access is not needed.
* If possible, Bonnie will share a link to a parish photo library that is maintained to store event photos from the parish activities
* We will explore www.canva.com<http://www.canva.com> to get familiar with the functionality of that site in relation to graphics manipulation
* We also discussed the logo of our parish and agreed that the current one used for the parish bulletin should also function well for the website.
* We reviewed the design of the school website in terms of color scheme. While we are looking for maintaining a similar color scheme, we do want to use the best coordinated colors that work well for the parish website and it's logo.

In terms of next steps...

* Blake will review notes from today's meeting and begin to organize a wireframe for discussion of the appropriate navigation/design of the site.
* We understand that the wireframe will be used for initial discussion and once we are in agreement on concept, you will proceed with further design
