Diocese of Venice

Minor Changes for Meeting

Roger,

I am so glad everyone was happy with the site thus far!
Also, thank you for mentioning the site is still a work in progress and for spreading the love for Diocesan, haha.

Content Issues
  • For the titles and positions, let me know what the decision is (Dr. prefix vs suffixes) as soon as you can so that I may change them.\
  • As far as the names and email addresses, I can go ahead and change them so they are in clickable link form (not button). I know what you mean about people email-grabbing from sites, but I'm not sure there is much we can do about that if we wish to show the email. For now, I will make all emails clickable links.

Design Issues
Thank you for bringing our attention to the small tweaks we still need to make. I will let Daniel know.
To clarify how we can replicate these errors, were you using IE11 for the entire presentation?

Again, I am so glad everything went well at the meeting. If any of the department heads have any other issues with their pages, please let me know,

Veronica Alvarado

RE:

Thank you Vernoica for the prompt work!

The Chancellor and all of the diocesan department heads had a chance to view the site (I let them know that we’re still working on it of course). I mentioned how helpful they all were and how great a partner Diocesan has been. 😊

Everyone loved it and found it so refreshing!!

I got very minor feedback about how we represent names and email addresses for staff. I told them we hadn’t landed on a standard yet. Here is the feedback and let me know if I should send them in a separate email for tracking purposes:

* For titles, the professional/appropriate way of representing them is by either putting them before the name (prefix) or putting them after the name. For example, it should either be Dr. Volodymyr Smeryk OR Volodymyr Smeryk, J.C.D., J.D., M.B.A., M.A. (note that the degrees are in descending order). This was new to most of us and recommended by our superintendent of schools. We will finalize the decision soon, but leaning towards only having the suffixes and no prefix titles, with the exception of Priests, Sisters, etc. that may have a prefix (like Rev.) and a suffix that includes their order.
* Email addresses should be viewable vs. included as a button on the site. Some people like to copy/paste the address instead of having a button try to open an email app that may not be installed on the computer. A clickable mailto: link may be the best way. I’d actually prefer a way of making the email addresses an image of the text to help minimize people scraping sites to grab email addresses. But I’m not sure if there is a plugin or other way of having Wordpress do that. So, we’d stick with simple mailto: links.

These other points of feedback didn’t come up in the meeting (I avoided them during the demo):

* The screen doesn’t show the buttons below the video banner because the go off of the bottom of the page if someone isn’t running resolution less than 1680. Can we either 1) have the buttons overlap the video to make sure they fit; 2) make the video ‘less tall’ so the buttons slide up; 3) other?
* The top menu seems to grown/shrink as the site is navigated and sometimes doesn’t render correctly in Firefox or IE. Check the sample site again for example of how we’d prefer it worked: http://stelizabethseton.org
* When viewing the page in IE 11, the logo is huge and overlaps the words on the banner video. Also, the buttons are all moved to the right (see image below).

Thanks for all that you do and hope you have a great weekend!!

I didn’t use IE11 for any of the presentation because of the issues. I used Firefox instead. I saw those issues in IE11 when preparing for the meeting, so I knew not to use that browser…

Roger,

Oh, okay. Good to know.
We will get those fixed soon.

Quite note: I wrote to Daniel that I saw the same button slid to the right on the www.ollvenice.org<http://www.ollvenice.org> site.

Good morning Roger and Susan,

I know we have our training coming up this week, so I was curious to if y'all had decided on how to display titles.
I know you were between the following:
  • Prefix only (Dr. Volodymyr Smeryk) and
  • Sufix only (Volodymyr Smeryk, J.C.D., J.D., M.B.A., M.A.)
Let me know what the final decision is so that I may begin changing these.
OR
Once you have been trained, these changes may be made by you and your staff.

I am completely comfortable with changing these titles, although there are some staff where I am not sure if it is Mrs. or Ms.

Thank you,

Thank you for the question, Veronica!

We will go with the suffix only method. Also, given the challenge with Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms, we will forgo that title as well.

Peace and talk soon!

Roger

Quick note no rendering for mobile platforms. I know we're focused on the browser work for PC, but when looking with mobile, the site doesn't seem to be adjusting for either one.

Let's touch on this if we have time on our call next week.

Peace!
Roger

Can you add/include a link for this on the education page? Kristy Swol states that there is a section on the education page somewhere for financial aid and the like. Although this is for higher-education (not high school and below) it would be good to include there for high schoolers that might be interested in resources like the one offered by the Catholic Community Foundation's Mary Fran Scholarship.
TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Roger,

1. I know all of our websites are tested and made to look/work the same on various devices and browsers, but this is one of the last steps we do. Otherwise, with all the various changes, we would be making a change, fixing it, making a change, fixing it, etc. Instead, we wait until the site is about ready to launch, then correct all the browser/device issues at once.
That being said, we do always appreciate the feedback on what the issues are.
2. I know that the Find a Parish database is being moved around and changed at the moment, but have made a "to-do" for me to check for these changes before launching.
3. I have added the link on the Education page to the CCFSF's scholarships, as requested. Since the Catholic Community Foundation will be moving to their own website, I will make sure to check these links before launching the DOV site, and again when we launch the CCFSF's new site.

Please let me know if you have any other changes,

Veronica Alvarado
