Development Link & Training

Good afternoon Brandon & Kathleen,


We have reached the point in development at which we share a link to the development site with you.

Training Sessions
The first training session typically takes ~2 hours and is done remotely via a screen share program. We will send over the meeting link and phone number in a later email. 

During the training sessions, we go over:
  • How to edit the homepage content
  • How to edit the footer
  • How to edit the menu
  • How to create/edit inner pages
  • How to create/edit posts
Since this can be a lot, we break the training down into two sessions:

Session 1: Editing the site basics
Session 2: Editing the menu  & answering follow-up questions

This is completely up to your learning pace and how much you feel comfortable covering at once.

I am available for training next week, Monday, anytime after 11:00 am and Wednesday, anytime after 11:00 am.

Hi, Veronica:

Thanks for the update. Pending Kathleen’s availability, I should be available Monday after 11:00 a.m. or Wednesday around 2:30 p.m.

Are these development site links supposed to be the finished product? Only reason I ask is because I am noticing some page layout and formatting issues. I’m assuming you want us to look at the design work to make sure it matches what we agreed upon and not the layout of the content just yet, right? Either way it would be good for us to look over and address these issues so you can pass along our thoughts to the developer.

Some initial thoughts on the development links:

MAIN HOME

* Subtitle under Diocesan Initiatives is not centered
* Under magazine section, the buttons say “One” and “Two” instead of “Download” and “Archived Issues”. I’m assuming these are just placeholders.
* The font size of the mega menu under Offices is very small.

SUB SITE HOME

* The Contact Us section with staff info looks great, but are we able to reorder the staff so that Kathleen is the first on the far left?
* Body copy stretches across the entire screen instead of within the container width we initially discussed.
* Again, font size for The St. Augustine Catholic mega menu is too small

NEWS POST

* Would like to see a text-wrapped image within the article to see how that looks. This was one of the options we had discussed and just want to make sure this got translated over from the design.
* From what I can tell, the PRINT option looks good!

SINGLE PAGE

* Again, I am assuming you want us to look at this page from a purely design standpoint, as there are some design issues as you scroll further down the page. I just want to be clear on what you want our feedback on versus what we may need to reformat on our end if it will be corrected in the final rendition.

I plan on giving you a call back this morning, but wanted to address the items you mentioned. Ryan and I have gone through each item:


MAIN HOME


* Subtitle under Diocesan Initiatives is not centered
Ryan did not see the subtitle in the mockup, but noticed it was on the original site and added it back in. He has since centered the subtitle.
* Under magazine section, the buttons say “One” and “Two” instead of “Download” and “Archived Issues”. I’m assuming these are just placeholders.
Correct, these are merely placeholders since this area is editable and this is the development site, not the live site. Still, we've updated these sections for you to see.
* The font size of the mega menu under Offices is very small.

Yes, these are editable and allow for an up/down toggle to reorder at any time.

Ryan let me know that there are some content issues on the single page example. Some content blocks brought over from your current site did not format correctly when imported and as this is content (and not an issue on your live site) we did not want to spend your content hours on this area of the demo since this entire development site is temporary.
If there are "design" issues relating to the theme then we can most definitely fix those!


Last, I did not hear back about Kathleen's availability but if you are both available, let me know and we can schedule a training session!

Kathleen, I'm excited! I think we're getting very close and I've included some dates to look forward to and a proposed launch date

Next Meeting
We had discussed having a check-in meeting on Thursday to go over any other changes needed for the website, along with any editing or launch questions.
I have a meeting from 11-12:30 and Ryan is unavailable after 3:30 pm.

Proposed Launch Date
As for launch dates, both Ryan and I are available December 21-24 (Mon-Thurs).
Shall we shoot for a Tuesday, December 22 launch? Then we can meet Monday, Dec 21, for final gameplan/questions and are available on Wednesday, Dec 23, all day, for questions and potential issues.

Yes, tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. works for me until about 3:30 p.m.

I did check the dev site earlier and noticed the styling fix. Thank you! Perhaps the headline line spacing could be increased just a bit more? We want to give the line height a little more breathing room so it’s a better reading experience for the end-user. Otherwise, nice job!

Thank you both for taking the time to meet with us!

The updates we discussed are as follows:
  1. Update title line spacing from 2.5rem to 3rem.
  2. Move images to the left of the post (homepage news section).
  3. Add toggle to display or hide the auto-generated sidebar for inner pages. Sidebar WILL display by default with the option to it turn off. 
We had also mentioned making the pages in this inner-page sidebar have the ability for manual reordering. After re-logging into the website, it looks as though you were correct! The functionality for ordering already exists and the sidebar is set to use this ordering. 

This ordering can be done with Quick Edit from the All Pages list or under Page Attributes while editing the page. 


As a last note, I will be out of the office tomorrow, Friday, and Monday. I will be back in the office on Tuesday, December 15. 
I have cc'd Ryan just in case there is anything else you may have questions for until Tuesday.
