Update & Launch Discussion

Good morning Emily,

I just wanted to check in with you and see if you had any questions or if you were ready to schedule a launch date. If you'd like to go over any part of editing in more detail, you do still have a second training available to you, Donna, and anyone else that may need training.

Let me know if you have any questions or if you'd like to schedule a training.

Hi Emily,

Just checking in on you again. I know that we are in the final stretches of Lent, so things will be kicking back up with Easter, but is there anything we can do to help you get a step closer to launching your new website?

If you need another training, or if you just have questions, please feel free to reach out.

Hi Veronica, I hope you had a wonderful Easter! Thanks for checking in. Yes – the number of projects I have on my plate during the Lent leading up to Easter is a lot, on top of getting the last of our ‘communications’ related items in place post-construction, I haven’t had time to put into the website. Today is my fresh start! I really wanted to get it live by May 1, so now is the time to buckle down. I cannot wait to get this off my plate!!

Once I get this weekend’s church bulletin off to the press, I will login and assess the situation. I will be honest that my having to talk to Fr. Len about his not getting the clickable rotating images on the home page has made this an easy thing to put off. That was really his one big wish. It has been somewhat of an intense year with our expansion project, with getting the last of it wrapped up before Easter, there has not been an ‘ideal’ time to talk to him about this – as I know he isn’t going to be happy. When I submitted approval for our website build, it was with the understanding that this function would be added in (I’m sure you have access to these emails, but I can forward it to you if you would like).

Anyway, once I get logged in I will touch base with you again – I do know the staff directory page needed a better format, I will detail my thoughts on that along with anything else when I follow back up.

Thank you!

Good morning Emily,

I had a lovely Easter and hope you did as well. I understand that it can be an extremely busy time within the parish.

There must have been some confusion. You can most definitely create a slider on the homepage! When editing the homepage, select slider instead of image (see image below). Then you have the ability to add a slide image, title, text, and a button (link) for each of the slides.

As for your staff page, you may want to consider displaying it like this (see image) using the 3 column option, rather than in a simple list format. I have left this at the bottom of the staff page for you to see. http://ctk-tampa.diocesanweb.org/welcome/parish-staff/

Other than that, would you like me to put your tentative launch for May 1-2?

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Just something to keep in mind :)

Hi Veronica, thanks for sending all of this over. I started updating things yesterday, my FIRST QUESTION, as this prevented me from working last night as I had planned --- what keys do I press to get the WordPress editing menu back up on my browser when it disappears? (The very top one that can take me back to the dashboard.) This happened last night, and couldn’t get it back up. I tried to return not the login (closing browser first and also clearing history/cookies), and it just kept taking me to the website as is. Hopefully I’m explaining my issue correctly. I use Chrome on my work computer, let me know if there is a better browser if that helps?

* STAFF DIRECTORY - Appreciate the alternate layouts for staff page, much better. I think the first, option one, will work best. I had wanted to use photos for the Clergy, if that isn’t something I’ll be able to figure out easily on my own let me know! Thank you for your help on this. 😊

* LINK FONT/SIZE – Is the size of the hyperlinks within copy a mistake?? They appear too small in comparison to the rest of the copy surrounding it, and especially with larger header. Do you see what I’m seeing? Pasting an example below – the web address and email link is what I’m looking at. I’m in the process of reducing the size of the headers which will help, but still think it is hard to read and a little messy to the eye.

Hello there Emily,

Oh, no! For the black bar to appear while viewing your website, you will have to do 2 things:
  1. Sign in  (http://ctk-tampa.diocesanweb.org/tampa)
  2. Hard Refresh the page you are on. (Hold down Control and click F5) You will have to do this for every page you visited before logging in.

Staff Directory
If you'd like to add images, I would suggest centering each of the staff images and staff information. When adding images, you can also determine their size, so you could have them all display the same height to keep it visually appealing.

Link Font/Size
Am I correct in thinking that you'd like the hyperlinks to be the same size, just italicized? It may be that the italic version of the font just looks smaller, but I will double check with the designer and developer!

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Thank you! I think part of my issue is that from home I’m on a Mac logged into a PC - I tried the F5 but maybe I need another key combo with it.

Staff - yes, I started adding the clergy photos and it looks so much better with the other layout you sent, thank you!

Links - I wondered if it might just be font, if I have to find a new one I can not just don’t think it looks very clean with the size variation. 😬 Let me know!

Thanks again for your help,

Good morning Emily,

If you're using Chrome, you can also try Control(Command on Mac) +Shift+R. That should definitely work, regardless of which computer you're on since the keys are more equivalent.

Our developer just got into the office and he let me know that the links were smaller because they were actually a different, loopier font (Amiri) in the mockup that seems to shrink when italicized. Below, I have provided a photo of what it currently is, compared to what we will change it to (italicized Lato):
If you prefer that we keep it at the different, loopier font (Amiri), then let us know and we will bump it up a size or two to try to make it match the rest of the paragraph font's (Lato) height.

Fantastic news on what the link will actually look like, that is much better and am happy to stay with that.

Hi Veronica, so I have a theory…. I keep getting kicked off in the evenings (…which is when I do a lot of church work!). Is there some sort of daily server reboot or system something that would cause this? I’ve been kicked off again the last couple of nights, I think (…think) it was around the same time (9pm ET). On Wednesday night, there was work I was SURE I saved on the Facilities page, but when I logged back in on Thursday it was back to the original version. :( This may be off base, I just can’t figure out why I keep getting kicked off. The hard refresh doesn’t work. This may not be an issue for a normal person, but due to the nature of my schedule I do more than half my parish-related work at home in the evenings. I’ll keep chipping away at it, just wanted to let you know I’m still having problems staying logged in! No idea…

One question I have – how do I change the very top image on individual pages??

Thank you!

Hi Emily,

We do have a time period when our websites go "offline" for administrators, but it is usually set to 1-5 am. I just now checked your settings and found that your timezone was still UTC 0, which is why you were being kicked out earlier.

I have updated the timezone, so that should not be an issue at 9:00 pm anymore. We keep the offline period due to the increased number of attacks during these hours, but can change the hours or simply turn it off completely. Just let me know. For right now, it is off from 1-5 am.

Thank you - that was really frustrating over the last week! I unfortunately lost work along the way before I caught onto kick-off time. Keeping 1-5am offline works for me.

Did you see my question about changing out the images of the top of the pages? Yesterday I realized I also need to change photo images of posts (news/announcement blocks) and must have missed something. Could not find this in the support section, if you can help me out with that I really think I’m almost ready to publish!! 🙂

PS Inserted existing calendar wiz calendar for now, will have google calendar ready later and will swap out - would like widget to show upcoming events on news page but will email on this from computer and not phone!

Good morning – I’m not sure who I should be reaching out to, if I should be directed to someone else could you please let me know? I was hoping to have it ready to publish by today, but am still waiting to hear about changing images. This is all I need help with:

1. How to I change the image no the top of each page? From what I understand, I should be able to change the featured image but that option Is not showing on my side bar.
* If there are separate instructions on how to change image for posts/announcements, please let me know. (IE I want to change the Faith & Ale image so it is more representative of the gathering.)
2. I’m going to use our existing calendar (via CalendarWiz) until I have all of the 2019-2020 dates for the upcoming year uploaded onto the Google calendar. I’ve successfully inserted the code on the calendar page, but it looks like I need a widget for the ‘upcoming events’ feed to show on the news page. They provide instructions for this, but it doesn’t look like I can add widgets on my own.
3. On that topic, I had requested the following and am curious if they currently available or not?
* Formed.org feed
* Countdown clock
4. On News page, I was trying to move the parish app feed and am not seeing there I can do that? I’m not ready to push that yet (will be getting to that post website publishing/tweaks)… Can that be shifted down the page (or removed)? I’d rather have Formed there for now.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Good morning Emily,

Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. If you'd like to launch your website, we do need to know at least 3 business days in advance so that we have ample time to coordinate the launch with any domain owners and/or set up for the launch.

  1. We have updated your website to WordPress' new Gutenburg editor, so you should be able to find your Featured Image now. Since this editor is different from the classic editor, let us know if you would like to use your second training.
  2. Using your CalendarWiz for now is totally fine. As for the News page widget, if you send us the code, we can tweak it to display as needed on the News page. Then, once you have the Google Calendar completed, let us know the Calendar ID and we will update both locations for you.
  3. Here is the link to the Formed Pick of the Week posts: http://ctk-tampa.diocesanweb.org/formed/
As for the countdown clock, it is available on your site, but is created with a shortcode. Please let me know what date you would like it to countdown to and what page you would like me to add it to.
  4. The News page is a template page, hard-coded to keep the consistency and mobile-responsive design. If you would like us to remove the myParish App section until you are ready, we can do that. As for showing Formed there instead, are you wanting to show the most recent Formed post, or a short explaination & button that goes to the full Formed page?
Let me know and I'll see what I can do!

Thank you! I’m meeting with Fr. Len TODAY at 3pm to go over everything and am trying to get it as complete as possible. I’m running out to an appointment, but real quick -

The new editor is so much better! I’ll let you know if I have any other questions.

* I added a featured image to the LITURGY page. It is showing at the top of the page behind the title… but it is ALSO showing it it’s full size below it, before the actual copy. Is there a setting I’m missing? (I LOVE the way the header image looks here!)
*
* CalendarWiz – Upcoming Events code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="//www.calendarwiz.com/calendars/ucfeeder.php?crd=ctk-tampa&theme=Master%20Theme"></script>

* Formed – I think their pick of the week would be good? https://leaders.formed.org/formed-iframe-embed/ If this page needs to be set by you guys, can we do parish calendar on the left and Formed on the right? Thank you!

Emily,
I wanted to also follow up on the bulletin - did you want the publishing of the bulletin on the website to be delayed until the following Monday?  Our developer said he can easily do that, and I know it was mentioned that you often want to have people view them at Mass before they show on the website.  Let me know if you'd still like that, and when we should schedule them to start appearing - Sunday evening, etc.  Thank you!

Emily,

I'm glad you like the Gutenburg editor! Our developer is going through to double check that everything is styled correctly.

For the featured image, the developer is already working on making sure the featured image only displays in the header. So that will be taken care of.

The developer will also add the CalendarWiz embed for now.

As for Formed, we cannot automatically pull in just their Pick of the Week because they have not shared the RSS feed with us. In fact, it was by chance that we found their All Posts RSS feed, which is what we are displaying currently on the Formed Resources page.
We may just have to settle with a Formed logo and "Click here to view Formed's Pick of the Week" or something similar.

Great thanks – for Formed, I actually saw that pop up and it is in Spanish. We don’t offer anything else in Spanish, so agree doing a logo and ‘about’ there is better. I will check and see what is in the leaders resources!
