Brigid C & S - Dublin, OH

Domain Transfer

Good morning, Allie -
Alan mentioned that your domains would be up for renewal soon and that you'd like them transferred to Diocesan.   It looks like one renewed in March and the other in May, so while I don't think there is a rush to migrate them, we can proceed now if you'd like - or we can wait until we get closer to the launch date - just let me know which you prefer.  Any time added during the migration stays with the domain, so you never lose the additional time that is already purchased.  The main benefit to moving now is that on launch day we are able to proceed with the launch without assistance from you or your IT person.

If you'd like to start the migration, the first step in this process is to provide us with the one of the following:
  1. Domain login information
  2. Domain contact information

Domain Login Information
If you would like Diocesan to initiate the transfer for you, we ask that you please send us the following information:
  • Name of Hosting Company
  • Login URL
  • Username/Email
  • Password
Please note that once Diocesan initiates the transfer, we may need your domain account owner to forward an email that they will receive.

Domain Contact Information
If you have internal or contracted IT services that you would like us to direct in the transfer process, we ask that you please send us the following information:
  • Name of IT Company (if any)
  • Name of Individual
  • Email of Company/Individual
  • Phone Number of Company/Individual
  • Account Privileges (if any)

Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is someone else we should get in touch with. Otherwise, we look forward to gathering your domain information to help you keep your web services all in one, safe place.

Thank you,

Hi Mary!

Thanks so much for the follow up. We can definitely wait -- the email I received from Networks Solutions made it sound like our domain would expire now, so since they were renewed recently we are in no rush to transfer anything yet.

Thanks so much!
Allie

That sounds like a good plan - I'll push the due date for that task out a bit then, closer to when we're ready to launch, and we can revisit then.  Thank you!

Hello Allie,

For the launch for the 22nd, we will need the domain login information for the two domains (Church: https://stbrigidofkildare.org/ School: https://stbrigidofkildare.com/).

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks Cody! I will send this info over.

One question in the meantime -- for the parish staff page, when I put in a phone number, it doesn't show up. They are all the same by Category though, so is there a way to show the phone number beneath the category listing?

Also the spacing is still looking off with the category heading then the space above the name.

Also, would you be able to send the recording of today's training? Bridget is very interested in learning about the forms.

Thanks again for all your help today!
TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Hello Allie,

I have gone in and fixed the spacing. I have added the phone numbers to the people. There is not an easy way to add it to the category because of how the coding is setup, but I was able to add it to the people's names pretty easily.

The second training is in the same folder as last time, but here is the link again.

Hello, Allie -
I'm going to piggyback on Cody's thread regarding the domains for the two sites -we had discussed awhile ago transferring them to Diocesan to hold - is that still your plan?

If so, we could transfer them right after the sites launch, if you'd like, or we do have time to move them ahead of the launches if you'd rather.  It's typically a 3-5 day process to move them and I keep a watch on them to make sure the transfer successfully.

Let me know your thoughts on this, thank you!

Hi Mary!

I do not understand the details of how this process works, so I will defer to your judgement regarding the timeline of the transfer. Below is all the info I have on them. I assume once it is transferred, the billing from them should stop?

I will also notify our current webhost that we will be moving over (they are currently unaware). Let me know if there's anything else I should tell them.

Thanks!

Hi Cody,

Just an update. I sent Mary the domain info this morning.

I worked on the Gallery albums on both home pages -- I like how I got them set up, using the Gallery instead of the manual upload. So, nothing needs to be done on your end for those.

We'll just need the calendars to be brought over and the News posts to be brought over, then I think we are set (with the exception of a few more page updates I need to make). Just let me know when the calendar is ready, as I'd like to send the sites out to some colleagues to review before making it live.

Thanks, and have a great weekend!
Allie

Hello Allie,

I will cancel the to-do for switching the Homepage Galleries. We should be able to switch out the Google Calendar with some relative ease I hope and that might be done today or possibly early next week. I will let you know though.

Thank you and you have a great weekend as well,

Hi Cody,

Just checking in on the remaining updates (calendar and loading news posts), and I had one more item I just noticed. On this page https://stbrigidofkildare.com/wolf-wednesday/ on our new site, it does not show the old posts that have the Wolfhound Wednesday category checked. This might be because we haven't loaded the old posts yet.

I am ready to move forward in exporting/importing those posts (anything I post from this week, I will just double post to both sites). Let me know the instructions or what I need to do to get those loaded.

Thanks!
TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Hello Allie,

I will have the developer work on that Homepage Calendar asap.

Yeah, the Wolfhound Wednesday Page was waiting on the old posts. Here are the instructions on how to export those posts and you can send me the file you get and I can import them to the new website:
  1. Go to your current site's dashboard then click Tools > Export in the submenu.
  2. Click the button for Posts. Choose the category for Wolfhound Wednesday and select the different options if you want to narrow down the posts, probably best to at least filter by those that are Published.
  3. Click "Download Export File" Button
  4. Repeat with any other categories you want me to bring over.
  5. Send me all Export Files you want imported to the new site
Thank you, Allie!

Thanks Cody! Quick question -- if I want to export all categories (I might instead filter by date), do they still need to be exported in separate files by category, or can they all be together?
FROM THE CLIENT Allie Wing, St. Brigid C & S, Dublin OH Staff
In case you're able to use them all together -- here are the files for the school and parish. I went back to January 2019, and I did do all statuses (because sometimes I unpublish them if it's a seasonal item then edit and re-publish for the next year).

If I need to do it by category as well that's no problem, just let me know.

Thanks!

TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Hello Allie,

That is perfectly fine to download like that. I got those imported this morning and set up the Wolfhound Wednesday page a bit more. You may have to switch some posts to new categories but you can filter through the all posts by category, bulk select them then do bulk actions and Edit and then apply and change the category there.

I hope that helps. The developer should be switching over to the Google Calendar today.

Thank you,

Thanks Cody! This is great and a huge hurdle in getting the site ready to launch! Just a few things I noticed:

* On both sites, the posts did not load on the home page Our News section
* Is there any way to add the featured image on the Wolfhound Wednesday page?
* The Common Threads one looks great, it just didn't pull over the October Common Threads post (I checked and the Common Threads category is selected on it).

Thank you!
TO THE CLIENT Cody Armock, Web Content Specialist at Diocesan
Hello Allie,

1. The homepage Our News section pulls in from the category selected and that is what I was referring to when adding the imported posts to the categories you want them to show up. The School is currently showing the Home News category and the most recent few at that. The Church is currently showing the "News & Events" Category and again, just the most recent few.

2. I added the Featured Images until last May, the ones that I could get from the current site and styled those out. Please keep that block as the Latest Post Block too as the styling is based on that.

3. I am not sure if you created this or it was pulled over, but it looks like the October Common Threads seems to be there.

3. Right -- I see the October Common Threads as a post, but not on the webpage of archived issues: https://brigidchurch.diocesanweb.org/common-threads/

Hello Allie,

  1. There are problems with images loading in with the posts when they are imported. You probably have to reassign the featured images for those posts. I had to do the same thing for the Wolfhound Wednesday posts.
  2. The Block for Wolfhound Wednesday page to show posts automatically when they are updated is called "Latest Posts". As long as that block type stays the same, then the pictures will appear as they do. You may have to do a hard-refresh. This was just a warning, not an action element for you to do.
  3. Oh, that was a red herring of a block. That block was "hard-coded" with that information, so it was because the October Common Thread was not uploaded manually. I switched this to be like Wolfhound Wednesday page where it automatically updates from the Common Threads category.

Hi Cody!

I am excited we are nearly ready to launch these sites! Other than the calendars, the staff pages are the only things remaining that need edits.

* On the parish site, can we remove the spacing between the category header and staff name? (as this page will never have staff photos)
* On the school site, it looks like I'm not going to receive the staff photos in time. Can we turn off the photos for now, then in the next few weeks I will add them back? Also, on this page it is not showing the staff name, even though it's loaded on the website.

Thank you!

Hello Allie,

The calendar should be fixed now and pulling the right stuff as well.

1. You may have to do a hard refresh as the spacing between the category names and the staff names is pretty minimal and it makes things more readable if there is that little bit of space.

2. You will need to do a hard refresh here too. I already fixed those issues.

Here are instructions on how to do a hard-refresh.

So all should be well! Thank the Lord!

The calendars on the front pages look awesome!

On the school one, the times are 5 hours off. Wondering if that's a time zone setting.

Also on the school site, there are still two google calendars showing: https://brigidschool.diocesanweb.org/calendar-page/school-calendar/ and https://brigidschool.diocesanweb.org/calendar-page/lunch-calendar/ -- will those be changed to the same calendar format?

I'm actually going to request the transfer codes for the domains today, and start the process to move them to us.  I noticed in the .com account at Network Solutions there is also a stbrigidofkildare.site domain - you'd like to move that, too, and be completely away from Network Solutions, is that correct?

I'll start the moving process now and hopefully within a few days, we'll have them all moved over!   Let me know if you have any questions.

Allie,
I went ahead and requested EPP/transfer codes for all three domains (.com, .org, .site) - and if you don't want to move the .site, we can just not use the transfer code and cancel that request.

For the code, they'll be sending you an email with the code in it - can you forward that email to me at webdepartment@diocesan.com?  It's best to forward the entire email(s) so I can copy & paste that code on my end?  Then the transfers will be underway - thank you!

I am checking in on the status of our domains getting completely transferred over to your host.
