Brigid C & S - Dublin, OH

Development Link & Training

Good morning Allie,

We have reached the point in development at which we share a link to the development site with you.

Training Sessions
The first training session typically takes ~2 hours and is done remotely via a screen share program. We will send over the meeting link and phone number in a later email.

During the training sessions, we go over:
  • How to edit the homepage content
  • How to edit the footer
  • How to edit the menu
  • How to create/edit inner pages
  • How to create/edit posts
  • How to create/edit image galleries
  • How to create/edit online forms
Since this can be a lot, we break the training down into two sessions:

Session 1: Editing the site basics
Session 2: Editing the additional site features & answering follow-up questions

This is completely up to your learning pace and how much you feel comfortable covering at once.

Development Site Link
Something to keep in mind is that the site is not quite completed yet, with the largest thing being mobile responsiveness. That said, it is best to look at the development site on a desktop computer, rather than a laptop or smaller screen. Mobile development/responsiveness is something that the developer completes after the training so that he can update any changes along with the original development!

There are some other big items that we are still working on, such as:
  • Homepage Calendar
  • Homepage Hero
Other than that, if you see anything that alarms you (design or functionality), please let me know and we can address your concerns.

Hi Cody,

Thank you for sending these test sites. Overall they look great! I love the new functionalities with the two columns, the image menus, the FAQs accordians, the calendar preview and the home page layouts! Below are my initial changes -- I am not including photo or text changes that will need made, just more structural type of things or transfer issues.

Thank you for your work on this!

SCHOOL SITE:

Home page:

* The logo is very fuzzy on the top. I've attached a few different eps files of the school logo.
* Remove COVID FAQs from Home drop down
* On all pages/template: the main body text font -- I think it's a little large / doesn't distinguish from the header fonts enough. Can we either make it a touch smaller, a touch lighter, and/or increase the line spacing a bit?
* Our News: Can these be smaller and show 3 or 4?
* Our News: Add dates to News posts, add categories
* Student Moments: photos fuzzy (might be what you said you're still working on)
* Footer: At the bottom where it begins "Saint Brigid of Kildare School provides a traditional..." can we make that font lighter/different/look embedded within the page a bit more?
* Footer: Remove the three buttons above that text (parish, visit us, safe together)
* Footer: Quick Links -- change Calendar to go directly to the School Calendar page, add Lunch Calendar, add Safe Together
* Footer: Remove the Lunch calendar and COVID FAQs quick links, add Church Livestream (https://www.youtube.com/stbrigidofkildarechurch) link
* Footer: Add Youtube link to social icons: https://www.youtube.com/stbrigidofkildarechurch

Internal Pages:

* Our Faculty page; Intro text needs brought over on the top
* Our Faculty page: can we list the email addresses, instead of the hyperlink mail icon
* Contact Us page: the rest of the intro text needs brought over, also on the left side can we add the school address above the parish address?
* Contact Us: map is wrong
* Athletics & Activities: page is blank (can we just add the image/button links to parent and student pages?)
* How to Apply page: not found
* Admissions/FAQs: I LOVE these drop downs! Can the font be a smaller one?
* News: The archive is great, and I assume it will show more pages once we add them to the new site. Can it show/preview at least 6, then have the ability to search for older posts by date and category?
* Calendar: Can the main/first calendar page you click on link directly to the school calendar, then it will have the links to the lunch and preschool calendar there as well?
* News/Wolfhound Wednesday - can it archive old issues like currently (https://stbrigidofkildare.com/wolf-wednesday/) ?

PARISH SITE:

Home page:

* Logo is fuzzy on the top. Diocesan designed/updated this file so I believe you should have the full-res version
* Change "Homepage" to "Home"
* Change "Giving" at the top to "Donate"
* Contact Form: Remove this from home page, replace with something that has links to: Contact Us page, Livestream link (https://www.youtube.com/stbrigidofkildarechurch%20), Bulletin, email sign up (can this be an embedded form?)
* Footer: Remove buttons (bulletin, calendar, donate) and footer text (so the footer starts with the horizontal line and logo)
* Footer: Change Quick Links to: Contact Us, Bulletins, Email Sign Up, Donate, Livestream (https://www.youtube.com/stbrigidofkildarechurch%20)
* Footer: remove the 3 other links along the very bottom (however, do we need a Privacy Policy and Terms of Use like the school site has?)
* Footer: social icons will be the same instagram as the school and this facebook: https://www.facebook.com/stbrigidparish/ and this YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/stbrigidofkildarechurch

Internal Pages:

* Welcome -- move Safe Environment back to under main Welcome menu
* Welcome -- remove Bulletins link
* Our Staff page: can we list the email addresses, instead of the hyperlink mail icon; also remove the images (we won't use them for the parish)
* Welcome - Donate - change name of this page to Giving
* Welcome - Contact Us - the top text from this page didn't get transferred over
* Sacramental Life - can we have the image buttons that link to all the other pages here?
* Youth - when you click this, can it go directly to Young Children's Programs page
* News - Latest News - doesn't load

I will plan to do a review of all the text, images and hyperlinks on all the pages before this goes live (I know there's a lot I need to update). I am pretty fluent with Wordpress, and I think I will only have one other person with me on the training, who is also familiar with Wordpress, so I think the training should go pretty quickly.

Let me know when you are ready to get that set up.

Thank you!
Allie

Hello Allie,

To make all those changes took some serious time, but most/all should be done that could be done. There are a few comments though that I will bold and put in a list. Also, you will need to do a hard-refresh (Instructions Here) to see all the changes.

School
  • Homepage Student Moments: photos fuzzy (might be what you said you're still working on)
    • This is a Flickr issue and the website pulling from it. There is not really much we could do besides having like 6 photos that are on housed on the site and then having a View All button to go over to your Flickr page. You can change these photos whenever you want, but it would be a manual job.
  • Church & School - Our Faculty page: can we list the email addresses, instead of the hyperlink mail icon
    • We can, but this is not in the proof and definitely not recommended because it makes it easier to orchestrate phishing emails. Users can still get the email address from right-clicking on the email icon and copying the email address.
  • How to Apply page: not found
    • Where was this page not found?
  • News: The archive is great, and I assume it will show more pages once we add them to the new site. Can it show/preview at least 6, then have the ability to search for older posts by date and category?
    • It will be separated into categories already and then infinitely load more until there is no more. Right now, it will show 9 initially
  • News/Wolfhound Wednesday - can it archive old issues like currently (https://stbrigidofkildare.com/wolf-wednesday/)
Church
  • Footer: remove the 3 other links along the very bottom (however, do we need a Privacy Policy and Terms of Use like the school site has?)
    • Removed them, and added a Privacy Policy. I don't think it is necessary but it is good to have. Terms of Use is not necessary from what I know.
  • Our Staff page: can we list the email addresses, instead of the hyperlink mail icon; also remove the images (we won't use them for the parish)
    • Removed the images. The email addresses would have the same problems as if we did it for the school.

Hi Cody!

Thank you for all your work on this. Here are my answers to your responses (in red below).

In addition to the comments below, I have just a few more questions/requests:

SCHOOL SITE:

* Footer: At the bottom where it begins "Saint Brigid of Kildare School provides a traditional..." can we make that font lighter/different/look embedded within the page a bit more?
* Our Faculty page; Intro text was brought over, but there isn't a header on the top.

PARISH SITE:

* Can the Donate link on the top be in a square/button? If you need to remove the phone number (or make it smaller) to do that, that is fine.

Thanks!

Hello Allie,

  1. I am not sure what you mean for the first one to make it look more embedded. I adjusted the width, made it a little smaller, italicized it, and now made it a lighter version of the font, but it is harder to read. Let me know specifically what you would want if more changes are needed.
  2. According to the proof that was approved, there is not supposed to be a header on top of the faculty page. Hard-refresh is required to see the green category titles for staff.
  3. I have made the donate link a button.
God bless,

Hi Cody,

Thanks for these updates and changes. Everything looks great.

For the faculty page, I guess when the intro text got pulled over it made it look like it was missing a header. So I think we can either delete that text and not have a header (as in the approved screenshot you attached), or leave that intro text and add a header. Either one works for me.

Thank you! Let me know what the next steps to move forward are.

Hello Allie,

I removed the excerpt since it would match the proof and provide more consistency with the Church site.

The next step is to schedule a time for the first training where we will go over the site basics listed in the first email of this thread. Let me know when you are free this week or next so that we can try to schedule that training.

Thank you,
