Blessed Sacrament - Midland, MI

Launch Instructions

Hello Kristyn,

Tomorrow, you will only need to log into your domain settings  and update your host settings. This can be done from any location, provided that you have internet access.

Below are the instructions for the domain transfer, to be facilitated  between 11:00 am - 12:00 pm tomorrow. Please let us know via email once you have made these changes.

To facilitate the transition, all you will need to do is update two host records for blessed-midland.org.  Updating the domain name will point the site to the new server.

You will need to log into your domain host account and make the following changes to your domain name host records:

Change the www and @ Host records to be A Name types that point to: 104.156.48.29

By changing only the www and @ Host records, you will update the website only and not your email.
AGAIN, PLEASE EMAIL US AT THIS POINT SO THAT WE MAY COMPLETE THE LAUNCH PROCESS.

The industry standard is to say these changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate.  However, it's been my experience that you can usually see these changes within 2 hours.  You will know it was successful when visiting blessed-midland.org brings up the site seen here: blessedsacrament.diocesanweb.org/

I have also copied our developer, Sam, so that he is aware of when the switch should begin.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need any additional help making the changes. Otherwise, we will just wait for your email letting us know that you have made the changes on your end!

Thank you,

Hello Kristyn,

This morning we were still encountering the "Under Construction" page that Network Solutions had temporary placed, but as of when I checked just now, blessed-midland.org is now pointing to your new website!

Congratulations on your launch and please let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks Veronica!

I have been able to access the website from my phone and from my home laptop. We are running into a problem on our computers at work. The old website keeps coming up when we go to the web address. Any ideas why that might be happening?

Also, the website looks great! Thanks for all of your help!

There are a couple reasons that this may be happening:

  1. Your computers need to hard refresh (hold down Control and click F5).
  2. Your office's internal server is pointing directly to your previous host. If this is the case, you will have to talk to your IT person, as they would have set it up manually. Unfortunately, it is not something that we can/have access to do remotely.
Sorry there is not more that we can help you with. If necessary, we can explain the situation to your IT person.

Thank you,

Good morning Veronica,

I’m running into an issue uploading things to the new website. When I try to upload files or pictures, I receive this error message: The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2018/11.

I went online to see if I could fix it, and everything said it has something to do with the code.

I was wondering if you could check on this for me.

Thanks!

Be well,
Kristyn

Hello Kristyn,

I haven't ever seen this before, but I have a developer looking into it. He will email you when he has found a solution. It is his priority of the day.

I will be out this afternoon until next Tuesday, but if you have any other issues, please email webdepartment@diocesan.com and our support member, Mary, will get back with you as soon as possible.

Thank you,

Hi Veronica,

I hope you had a happy Thanksgiving! Everyone is loving the new website!

The biggest thing we’ve heard that makes a lot of sense is that there are no titles on the staff page. For example, people who go to look at the school staff have to click on the name to figure out what grade they teach. Same thing for the other groups. Is there a way to get the positions to show up on the staff page, so people don’t have to click on everyone to find the bookkeeper or middle school youth minister?

Also, I know there are some free plug-ins for a light box option. As Patrick and I were talking, we thought that this might be a good way to let people know if school is canceled or if there is an immediate announcement that needs to be made. We had a snow day today, and it would be nice for it to be available right away instead of people having to scroll to the news section. I found one to install and then realized I didn’t have an option to actually install a plugin on the website.

Finally, I wanted to use our Flickr account to populate a slider on the school page so I don’t have to upload images to two different sites. I found the slider on Slider Revolution, and downloaded the zip file needed to install it, but it didn’t work. Is it possible to add this template: https://revolution.themepunch.com/wordpress-flickr-slider/ ?

Thank you again for all of your help, and please bear with me as we work out these fine tunings.

Have a great day!

Be well,

Hello Kristyn,

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well!
For the staff pages, we will be adding their title, phone and email below their photos. I agree with you in that it is an unnecessary click to get to the bulk of the staff's important information.

As for emergency messages lightbox, I think we have just the thing. We recently developed our own plugin that does what you'd like. When you have an emergency message, it will pop up on the homepage and match your site's styling. There, you can give the pop-up box a title, information and even a link for more information.
Is this what you are looking for? If so, let me know and I get a quote out to you.

As for the Flicker feed, we can add the plugin add-on, but you would first have give us permission to purchase the plugin activation key ($26 + $2 Handling Fee) on your behalf. Then we can activate your pro version of Slider Revolution so that you can use the Flickr Slider.

Let me know what you would like to do,

Hi Veronica,

Thanks for your response, and for the information on the staff page.

Can you send me a quote for the lightbox? I will have to take it to my business manager, but I think he would be amenable to it, as long as it’s reasonable.

Also, the plug-in for the Flickr feed is a one-time fee right? Or is it a subscription? If it’s one-time, we can move forward with that.

Thanks!

Be well,
Kristyn

Hello Kristyn,

Here is the quote for what you requested:

Everything above is a one-time cost, so you don't have to worry about that. I think Slider Revolution is technically something billed annually, but if you cancel it, you just don't get any updates (which is fine). But it will not delete the version you paid for.

Let me know what you decide and I can add it to our project queue!

Thanks Veronica,

We’re going to scratch the Flickr slider, but let’s go ahead with the emergency lightbox.

The lightbox is more important, especially because I don’t think this will be an easy Michigan winter, and I’m sure school will be closing again due to snow. Thank you!

Kristyn

That makes sense, although I did sigh when you said it won't be an easy winter. I'm Texan, so last year was great. This year, I might finally hate Michigan winters, haha!

I will send you a separate email outlining the lightbox development and approval.

Thank you!

Hi Veronica,

I hope you’re having a great albeit snowy Wednesday! I was checking in to see what that status was on adding the titles, email, and phone numbers under the names on the staff page? We’ve had a couple parishioners mention that they wish it was easier to find out who does what.

Thanks for your help!

Be well,
Kristyn

Hi Kristyn,

I was out of the country until today, but have made sure one of the developers will take a look at your site this week and get the title, email, and phone number added to the main staff page layout.

In the future, please be sure to send all support emails to webdepartment@diocesan.com, as there is always someone checking the email and attending to support issues.

Thank you and I'll let you know once the staff page has been updated.

Thanks again for your patience!

Hi Veronica,

I hope this email finds you well! The website has been going great! However, I had a request from our principal—he wants the school staff on the “welcome to school” page as an accordion page. I love the way that our staff page is currently set up, so I was thinking that I would be able to go in and copy the school setup to a separate page. It didn’t like that. I’m not sure how I would go about designing this page.

Any insights or help that you could offer would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Be well,
Kristyn
