Development Link and Training

Good afternoon All,

We have reached the point in development at which we share a link to the development site with you.

First, I wanted to go over the missing content from the website and then get into the training and development site. 

Things We Need From You
We still need the following items from you. Please let us know if you will be sending them or if you'd like us to remove them from the site.
  • Calendar ID to integrate a calendar on the site(s). 
Further Development:
There are some other big items that we are still working on, such as:
  • Contact Us Form, buttons arent working
  • Some additional development with the info that is shown at the bottom of the website (known as the footer)
  • News Posts are repeating on the Parish News area.
Other than that, if you see anything that alarms you (design or functionality), please let me know and we can address your concerns. Rest assured, the above items will be addressed ASAP and will be squarred away prior to launch. I didnt feel these items should further delay the progress of your website. 

Training Sessions
The first training session typically takes ~2 hours and is done remotely via a screen share program. We will send over the meeting link and phone number in a later email. Trainings are scheduled Monday through Friday 9am-2pm Eastern Time. Please let me know when you are available. 

During the training sessions, we go over:
  • How to edit the homepage content
  • How to edit the footer
  • How to edit the menu
  • How to create/edit inner pages
  • How to create/edit posts
  • How to create/edit image galleries
  • How to create/edit online forms
Since this can be a lot, we break the training down into three parts:

Session 1: Editing the site basics
Video Tutorials: Gravity Forms and Envira Gallery
Session 2: Answering follow-up questions and scheduling launch

This is completely up to your learning pace and how much you feel comfortable covering at once. 

Development Site Link
Something to keep in mind is that the site is not quite completed yet, with the largest thing being mobile responsiveness. That said, it is best to look at the development site on a desktop computer, rather than a laptop or smaller screen. Mobile development/responsiveness is something that the developer completes after the training so that he can update any changes along with the original development!

Other than that, if you see anything that alarms you (design or functionality), please let me know and we can address your concerns.

We use a Google Calendar for our school calendar. How do I share that with you to include on the website?

For the footer, could we do something similar to OLC's page (included in the attachment)? Instead of our logo, could you insert the blue ribbon award stamp? Also, we only have one phone number 616-361-5483

* I would like a form for parents to complete to schedule a tour. The form would include first and last name, grade(s) interested in, email, phone number. This form would be emailed to me.

* Registration will be completed through School Admin
* Payments will be made through School Admin

Hot Lunch

* Hot Lunch payments will be made through infinite Campus (We will no longer be using RevTrac for any payments moving forward)

Early Childhood

* The Health Form is not working

Payments

* Payments for School, Daycare, BAC and Summer Camp will be made through School Admin (Can we create a Make a Payment tab under parent info linked to School Admin?)
* Lunch payments are made through Infinite Campus

Thanks for the speedy response! We can definitely get those things squared away for you. I'll be sure to put in a work order for our developers to adjust the footer and I'll pass along the example you sent (which is very helpful, thank you!). The rest of the things you listed should be quick and easy fixes. I'll take care of those myself this afternoon.

For your calendar, we'll just need the link to your Google calendar. To get this...
 
1. Open your Google Calendar app page using your Google account.
2. Navigate to your subscribed/available Google calendars list (usually bottom left side).
3. To get to your calendar settings, hover over the calendar you wish to work on and click the three vertical dots that appear to the right – this will bring up a dropdown menu, click Settings and sharing.
4. A new page will open. Find the Calendar ID at the bottom under the Integrate Calendar section.

A quick update on the footer changes you requested: Since the footer example you attached is substantially different from the one you landed on in the initial design phase, there will be a cost for this change. This is just to cover the additional time that our designer and developers will need to spend to make those changes. If this is something you're still interested in I can follow up with a quote for the cost of those changes and as soon as we get your approval we can get started on that.

How your footer is built would require extra development and design time to change.

One way to maximize your current footer is to use the buttons at the bottom to explain the importance of your Blue Ribbon award. Below is a screenshot of the church's buttons. Currently, there are no buttons on the school footer. It may be a good idea to have three buttons say something like:

 [Contact Us] [Blue Ribbon School] [Admissions]

Any forms on the site will send you an email with all the form responses. I'm personally not aware of a way to integrate School Admin and Gravity Forms, but you could always swap out those forms with a button containing a link to School Admin that directs to some sort of form or survey in your CRM if you want that information to go directly into School Admin.

The Faculty page is edited using the Staff editor, which is located in the menu on the left-hand side of the screen. In order to move Amy into support staff you would change her Staff Group from Administration to Support Staff. I made both the changes you requested, but that is just for future reference. 

Is there a time that would work for you to schedule your follow up Q&A session? This will be an approximately 30 minute meeting where we can address any questions or concerns you have and then discuss a timeline for launching your site.

Thank you for making those changes for me. :)

Today was my first day back in the office for the new school year and my to-do list is abundant. As I mentioned in the meeting, the beginning of the school year is not a great time for launching for me. To date I have asked "my people" for pictures and videos so I can make the website our own and have reviewed each portion of the site.

Realistically I won't be able to give this a lot of attention for several weeks.My availability should be better after Labor Day weekend.

We can talk more about launch at the Q&A session. Again, this is completely on your schedule but you can absolutely continue to make changes after the site is launched, so once you get it to a point that you're comfortable with how the site looks currently we can get a date on the calendar.

Thanks for the update. You should now have access to edit the landing page photo. For the other two issues you mentioned, I'm going to have to pull in a developer to fix those. The Staff page shouldn't be pulling in that photo for the featured image, so even if you were to go in and change it it would still not display properly. Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I'll get those taken care of for you.

I fixed the sub issue. 

This is sounding like a hard refresh issue. Have you tried clearing your cache and cookies and such? Logging out of the backend first? When you've done this from your landing page with all other tabs closed press control F5 and then that will pull in all the newly updated info. Log back into the site per normal procedures. 

Try this and let me know if things work as intended.

Donna,

Help me understand better what it is you are trying to achieve here. On the surface it seems you are asking how to add a video to the Hero Section of the homepage. But when you said hero 'page' and mentioned embed a youtube video it makes me think you are referring to a Youtube block within the Gutenberg Editor. 

The Hero Section on the homepage does not support YouTube videos per say. It does however support downloaded videos of up to approx. 10-15 seconds in length. If this is what you are wanting I can certainly provide instructions to achieve this. 

If you are asking how to embed a YouTube block using the block editor on a page other than the homepage I can also provide instructions for that as well. 

Please clarify and that will help me provide you with the most appropriate resolution.

For context Ryan and I are involved with a website from content migration through launch. All post-launch support is handled by a specialized team who exclusively handle all web support needs. If you have any questions about this please give Ryan a call at 800-994-9817. 

In terms of the ordering of staff groups, we covered that in the staff page portion of our first training, so if you want to go back and review the video that would hopefully answer your question. In terms of the featured image, the staff page is a custom page type that pulls in the default featured image. The default featured image can be changed in theme settings.
