Development Site Link & Training

Good morning Father Bob,

We have reached the point in the development process in which we share the link to the development site with you. First, I wanted to go over the missing content from the website and then get into the training and development site.

Things We Need From You
We do still need some information from you, if possible. Otherwise, we can simply remove these item from the main menu and website.
  • Ministries (description, contact, & meeting times)
  • Faith Formation (description, contacts, registration, & meeting times)
  • Sacraments - We have already added the basic information, but if you wish to add more, simply send the content.

Training
The training typically takes ~2 hours and is done remotely via Diocesan's version of TeamViewer. At the beginning of our phone call, I will walk you through how to set up the remote access program.

During the training, we go over:
  • How to edit the homepage content
  • How to edit the footer
  • How to edit the menu
  • How to create/edit inner pages
  • How to create/edit posts
  • How to create/edit/use image galleries
  • How to create/edit/use online forms
  • Any other questions that you may have
If this seems like a lot, something we have done in the past is breaking the training down into two pieces:
  1. Editing the site basics  (pages, posts, menu, homepage)
  2. Editing the additional site features & answering follow-up questions (forms, galleries, etc.)
This is completely up to your learning pace and how much you feel comfortable covering at once.

Development Site Link
Something to keep in mind is that the site is not quite completed yet, with the largest thing being mobile responsiveness and the correct paragraph font display on inner pages. That being said, it is best to look at the development site on a desktop computer, rather than a laptop or smaller screen. Mobile development/responsiveness is something that the developer completes after the training so that he can update any changes along with the original development!
Additionally, if you see anything that alarms you (design or functionality), please let me know and we can talk it through.

Please let me know what dates and times work best for the training or if you have any other questions,

Veronica,
I will be back in the office next Tuesday.

I will need to talk to staff about how to get you the info you need. This is quite a daunting task.

I get the impression I should find someone who is highly computer literate to manage our website and be included in the training sessions. I am the worst person to be communicating with you.

I’ll share your email with staff. I think we should break the training into two sessions.

Thanks, and I’ll be in touch.

TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Good morning Fr. Bob,

I'm sorry that it feels overwhelming, it really isn't meant to be! An important thing to remember is that no one's website is ever truly "finished," and even if we were to launch your new website right this moment, it would already be better than what you currently have.

If you'd like your website to only have the basics, that's perfectly okay! The top three things people are looking for is still there: location, Mass times, and the bulletin. There are actually several parishes that I've worked with that don't bother using ministries or faith formation. They know that if someone is truly interested, they'll call the parish, pick up a bulletin, or ask someone after Mass.

So there is no need to feel like you have to get all this information before launching, if at all.

In terms of training, I always think that breaking it into two parts works best. While we make the website as straightforward as we can, it can still be a lot to take in. We do also have step-by-step help articles on how to do the most common editing tasks available to you.

Last, if you'd like me to add others to the Basecamp project/email chain, simply let me know their names and emails.

Have a wonderful weekend, Fr. Bob,

Veronica,
Please see attachment in forward. To be added to ministries. Forms will be coming (eventually) from our youth coordinator. Or she might call you.

Thanks,

Good morning Father Bob,

I have already began updating the sacrament information and adding the councils in. I will add these pages to the content for me to add to the site.

I look forward to hearing about the formation forms,

Father,

Do you by chance have the Pages or Word document version of the Liturgical Ministries? I have a Mac so I can convert it if needed, but the PDF does not allow me to copy and paste the information over to the website.

Thank you,

Good afternoon Father Bob,

It has been a while since we've heard from you and I was wondering if you had the time for your training session. I know you had previously mentioned perhaps bringing in someone else to help you out with the website, so just know that they can be in on the training as well!

Lastly, could you please send us your domain contact or the domain login details? This ensures a quick launch once you are ready.

Let me know if you have any questions or have some dates and times in mind for your training session.

Hi Veronica,
2 things:

1. Could I have some time to actively search for a webmaster?
2. We have probably decided on WeShare as our online giving option. Can we get that widget on the website in the near future so it is in place when launched?

Thanks for connecting,
Fr. Bob

Veronica,
Great news. I have a webmaster. Her name is Debbie Granger. She administrates our Facebook page and she is willing to administrate our website.

I am ready to select a date and time for training.

Please email me our options.

Thank you,
Fr. Bob

Good afternoon,

I am so glad that you were able to find someone to help with the website! I know that can be difficult, especially with smaller parishes. Lucky for Debbie, the website does not have too much in terms of consistent updates (bulletin upload themselves), but will be logging in just for the occasional update to content.

The training session is typically about 2 hours long.
Our available start times next week are:
  • June 19, Wednesday, from 9:30 -11:30 am
  • June 20, Thursday, from 12:00 -3:00 pm
  • June 21, Friday, from 9:30 -11:00 am
If these dates don't work for you, we can take a look at the following week. Just let me know!
