Development Link & Content Needs
Good afternoon, Janis,
And what a good afternoon it is! As the subject suggests, we have actually been able to move your website up in the development queue and have the link to that ready for you!
Please keep in mind that the site is not at 100% completion, but instead about 75% completion.
Some things we are still working on are:
- Homepage Calendar Styling
- Inner Page Sidebar
Development Site Link:
https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/
Here are some items we still need from you:
https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/
Here are some items we still need from you:
- Formed.org link on the Home page
- Donate button on Home page - should this go to the Financial Giving page, or directly to parishgiving.org?
- Weddings Page - Marriage Preparation Guide, Music Planning forms
- Google Calendar ID (found in Calendar settings)
- Do you have a link for "Marriage Apostolate" on the Adult Faith Formation page?
- Employment page - should Homeschoolers M.A.R.C.H. link to a website?
Let me know if you have any questions,
Veronica Alvarado

fMary:
Thank you again for providing us with a link to the All Saints Catholic Church parish website in development with Diocesan Publications. Sorry for the delay in finalizing the website, but we didn't have the resources to complete the website during the fourth quarter.
I manage the All Saints Catholic School website that you host and also work independently as a web designer. When we built the school website with Diocesan Publications, I was able to access the back-end of the site to make updates prior to the training session. I would really like to be able to do the same on the parish side as soon as possible. That way the site is close to ready to go when we have our training.
Here are the answers to your followup questions:
* Formed.org link on the Home (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/) page
Will get that for you...
* Donate button on Home (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/) page - should this go to the Financial Giving (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/giving/financial-giving/) page, or directly to parishgiving.org (https://www.parishgiving.org/Main.aspx?e=F6A25B9A51CC95F6282FAA060255CA03E1BD46703E620220EC85F2E86D52E61CD42E54B38C42E6855D610EBA16E2A47E)?
Let's have it go to our Online Giving page: https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/giving/financial-giving/online-parish-giving/
* Weddings Page (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/praying/weddings/) - Marriage Preparation Guide, Music Planning forms
I will add this information once I have the login
* Google Calendar ID (found in Calendar settings)
Double-checking with our Pastor about which Google Calendar to utilize
* Do you have a link for "Marriage Apostolate" on the Adult Faith Formation (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/learning/adult-faith-formation/) page?
Please remove Marriage Apostolate mention on that page
* Employment (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/about-us/employment/) page - should Homeschoolers M.A.R.C.H. link to a website?
Please remove Homeschoolers M.A.R.C.H. reference on that page.
Thanks so much for your assistance. We are looking forward to finalizing the site and going live.

Wonderful - thank you!!
Hello, again!
I spoke with Veronica - she said if you could send us a list of accounts to create, we will get working on that and send out the login information early next week!
We just need an email address, first name/last name for a user, and what they'd like as a username, as well as what role you want them to have (Parish Admin, or more limited access.) We'll get started creating the accounts once we have that information.
Also, once we send out the login information, we should plan for a training session within two weeks of that, and since you are familiar with WordPress it would be more of a Q&A session where we can go over anything you may have questions about. And, we should also decide on a launch date at that time, as well - very exciting to be so close to launch!

Mary and Veronica:
Good morning:) I just wanted to check on the status of creating an admin account for me to access the All Saints Parish website that is in development. I have time tomorrow morning and over the weekend that I'd like to devote to the project. I currently manage the All Saints Catholic School website hosted by Diocesan Publications and have other sites that I manage for freelance clients, so I'm familiar with platform.
Many Thanks,
Janis DeVore

We are making progress on the All Saints Catholic Church website. I wanted to see if a few updates could be made before I release the proof to our department heads.
1. Please remove the social media link to Instagram from the top header area and footer.
2. For the "tagline" area under the social media buttons, Diocesan Publications was able to make that a widgeted area for us so we could change it periodically. For the parish, we would like to adjust it throughout the liturgical year. Could you change the tagline for now to the following and let me know if it is possible to make it a widget?
And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.
3. I have several posts that I created, but I don't have the ability to publish them. Can you provide me with that access?
Thanks for your assistance!

Good morning, Janis -
I'm going to ask a developer to look at removing the Instagram icon and making the tagline editable.
As for the pending posts - that was a missed checkbox when I set up your account, so you should now be able to publish - I'm so sorry about that and thank you for letting me know. You should be all set with that.
Thank you!

I'll check with Veronica to see what needs to be done prior to launch. I would think the 20th or 21st would be perfectly fine to plan as a launch date!
We'll be in touch shortly with what is needed for that.

Wonderful, thank you. I wanted to followup on a previous thread regarding a couple of changes to the template that you were forwarding to the developer:
The new tagline for Easter is included below:
Yes, Christ my hope is arisen; to Galilee he goes before you.
3. This is a new one ... for the Quick Menu on the internal pages, could you make the links as follows:
- Mass Schedule (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/praying/worship/)
- Bulletin (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/news-events/bulletins/)
- Directions (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/contact/directions/)
- Financial Giving (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/giving/financial-giving/)
- Music Ministry (https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/praying/music-ministry/)

- All Saints Catholic School (https://allsaintsvaschool.org/)
- Religious Education (http://www.allsaintsreligiouseducation.org/)

Hi, Janis -
I started to make the updates today - and a couple of items are on the developer's list to do yet - I've updated the list to reflect what you've just sent. Don't be alarmed that they aren't yet complete - I updated the quick links but need to learn how to switch out the icons so no worries, we'll swap out that fork and spoon icon before we launch! :)
Thanks very much,
Mary

Janis,
Is that a grouped calendar? Would you be able to send me the individual calendar ID's? The calendar plugin we use requires the individual ID's and then groups them together within the calendar.
I got an error message when I tried using allsaintsva.org_kaa5ia67b821dh4pvsat65djp4@group.calendar.google.com.

It could be that it's not yet public - I can't remember the exact error I received but that may be why it's throwing an error.
I can't see the forwarded information from the pastor - would you be able to forward it directly to our email, webdepartment@diocesan.com? There may be something in there to help me get the calendars set up before launch.
We also switched out the icons on the quicklinks - let me know if there are any that you don't care for and we can see what else is available.

Mary:
I'd like to make a few changes to the Quick Links section of the All Saints Parish website.
* Please remove the "Directions" link
* If you have an apple icon, could you use it for the All Saints Catholic School icon? If not, the icon that is currently in place is fine.
* Could you change the Youth Ministry icon? Students in this program tend to be in middle school and high school, so something that would resonate with an older age group would be great.
This next request is larger in scope. On the All Saints Catholic School website, we have the Quick Links box on the home page. As I was going back and forth between sites, I thought how helpful it would be to have Quick Links on the home page of the parish site as well.
There are two potential spots for it. Would it be possible to remove the Formed icon to the right of the section called "Welcome to All Saints Catholic Church" and place the Quick Links there (preferred method)? The other option is to move it to the right of the Calendar (as it is in the school website). If we remove the Formed icon, I would create a slider at the top of the page to keep a reference to the program on the home page. If we remove the Online Giving section, I would create a slider promoting Parish Giving.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Many Thanks,
Janis DeVore

Good morning, Janis -
I'll work on changing out the icons today.
When you say "remove the directions" link - where on the site is that? Do you mean the Google map link in the header, next to the telephone number, or somewhere else?
I'll talk to the developer about adding the Quick Links bar to the homepage, as well.
Thank you,
Mary

Mary:
Sorry for the confusion. Directions is included as an option in the Quick Link box. Given that people tend to use gps and the address is at the top of each page of the website, I thought we could remove Directions as an option in Quick Links. We will still keep that page which is accessible under the Contact drop-down menu.
Thanks,
Janis

Good morning, Janis -
I'm wondering if it's moving up/down in response to the size of the device we are viewing it on - I'm seeing this, where it's just a tiny bit lower than the top of the lettering.
Are you seeing the box lower than that? Could you send me a screenshot of what you see on your monitor? We can certainly decrease the top margin area and move it up a bit - I'm just curious how it looks on your monitor.
Did you see anything else that needs updating before the launch?
Thank you,
Mary

Are you seeing the box lower than that? Could you send me a screenshot of what you see on your monitor? We can certainly decrease the top margin area and move it up a bit - I'm just curious how it looks on your monitor.
Did you see anything else that needs updating before the launch?
Thank you,
Mary
Janis,
I just decreased the top margin from 50px to 30px, so the quicklinks box is 20px higher - is the alignment closer to what you'd like? I have another 30px leeway to move it further up, just let me know!

Mary:
Sorry for the delay. I have been at a training workshop. Here is a screenshot of the Quick Links from Google Chrome taken after you made the update.
Thanks,
Janis

Good news, I just checked Firefox and it looks fine.

Mary:
I will check the site on other devices regarding the Quick Links. You can hold off on other changes to it until I see if it is just an isolated issue.
I have a few other random items as we fine-tune for launch:
* If you click on Giving/Financial Giving in the top navigation, you will see that there are four flyouts: Online Parish Giving, Directed Giving, Gifts of Stock, Planned Giving. However, if you click on Online Parish Giving and look at the on-page subnavigation on the right, it doesn't include the Gifts of Stock link to https://www.arlingtondiocese.org/bishops-lenten-appeal/ways-to-give/make-a-gift-of-stock/. That's because it is an external site. Is there a way to represent that page in the subnavigation so it mimics the flyouts on the top navigation. Not a big deal if you can't make it happen, but I thought I would mention it.
* Could the css be changed so email links don't appear in bold? Even if it affects all links, I could go back and apply a bold command to regular links I want to bold. Here are two examples:
https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/about-us/parish-directory/
https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/giving/volunteer-opportunities/
* Can you please set the News & Events posts to automatically popular the blog page?

One other quick question. What is the optimal size for the slider image on the home page? I have a second that I want to add possibly before we go live.
Thanks,
Janis

Good morning!
This is what I see after my little 30px bump, so I was having a hard time understanding what you meant about them not being in line!
I'm wondering if you hadn't done a hard refresh in awhile in Chrome when you saw that - you could be seeing remnants of the Formed code that may have still be trying to pull in the Formed image that had been there. If you still see the white gap after a hard refresh (CTRL + F5 while on the page) let us know and the developer will investigate.
I'll start working on the other items in your list and let you know when they are complete!
Thank you,
Mary

Thanks, Mary. I did clear my cache and it is still not directly across, but not too far off so it is fine. Much better than before.
Many Thanks,

Good afternoon!
Take a look at the blog page - let me know if it's what you intended:
https://allsaintsva.diocesanweb.org/news-events/blog/
I added a plugin called "Page Links To" that allows you to set a redirect link on a page - that will let it show up in the menus, like a dummy entry, but will redirect the person to the correct page when you click on it. I set up a page called Gift of Stock that has the redirect to the diocese site down at the very bottom of the page - you'll see it if you scroll all the way to the bottom:
You'll see in the All Pages list a little chain link near the page, letting you know it's redirecting:
We should be able to reorder how they appear using the "order" box on each of the child pages.
For the homepage images, I'd go with a minimum of about 1550-1650 px wide and about 650 px in height. That would fit well in the Slider Revolution Home Page slider that's already created.
The developer added CSS so that any email link that is set up as a "mailto:" link will not be bolded - I think that will solve the bolded email links issue without you having to go thru the bother of having to re-bold things.
I think that covers the latest tasks - let me know if you find more things that need to be addressed prior to launch day!

Janis,
Quick question - the "View All News" link next to Latest News, above the news posts on the home page - that currently links to a page that doesn't exist.
We can either change the slug of the blog page to match that link, or we can change the link to match the slug of the blog page, either/or will work - is that where you'd like that link to go? Let me know and I can get it working. Thank you!

Thanks for catching that. Let's have it match the existing blog page slug.

That is now sending to the /blog/ page correctly - thanks!

Mary:
I was just configuring the Contact 7 form on the Contact page of the All Saints Parish website. I need to change the From field so it shows that the email originated from the allsaintsva.org (http://allsaintsva.org) domain. If I set it up now, will it work given that the @allsaintsva.org (http://allsaintsva.org) domain is now pointing to our current site? I was going to change it to [your-name] <parishoffice@allsaintsva.org (mailto:parishoffice@allsaintsva.org)>, but it doesn't seem to want to take it.
Original setting: [your-name] <wordpress@allsaintsva.diocesanweb.com (mailto:wordpress@allsaintsva.diocesanweb.com)>
Thanks,
Janis

Until we launch, I believe it has to match the site domain (which is diocesanweb.org, our server) for the form to send correctly. After we launch and the site domain becomes allsaintsva.org, we can change it without the error. You can leave it with the correct email right now, and at launch that configuration error will clear up.
We switch over some other mail settings on the server at launch, too - it's all part of our launch checklist, so I'll make a note to verify the configuration of any Contact Form 7 forms at that time. For now, I wouldn't worry too much, we just can't test the form until the launch happens.
Thank you,
Mary

I should mention - we've moved away from using Contact Form 7 on newer sites because Gravity Forms is a little easier for users who are new to WordPress, and I see the contact form is the only one that uses CF7 on the parish site.
I know you've used CF7 on the school site, but if you'd like the parish site to be all Gravity Forms, I'd be happy to switch the contact form over to Gravity Forms for you before launch, then you'd only have the one form style to deal with. Just a thought...let me know, I can switch it over today.
Thanks!

Thanks, Mary. I thought I remembered that happening before too. I appreciate the explanation. Getting excited for Monday!
