All Saints - Dunwoody, GA

Footer & Calendar

Hello Beth,

Just wanted to inform you that i've changed the color of the footer, and adjusted the calendar to show 4 events for each day. Just do a hard refresh on the page to see the changes.

-Michael

FROM THE CLIENT Beth McTighe, Marketing & Communications Director at All Saints Staff
Hi Michael,
Thanks for making that change to the calendar. Will you update me on these issues I discussed on the phone call with Sam and Gary?

1. Google analytics code added. They said it would be added last week, but it doesn’t seem to be there. (UA-33639578-6)

1. Events do not appear on the calendar page for certain Saturdays. Why is that happening?

1. Related pages navigation. How to control this better and the reason for the inconsistency. Example of Preschool (made own nav column b/c Preschool subpages don’t show under related pages) and PSR (where VBS doesn’t show, but myParishApp does show; VBS is one of the pages under that section, it should show up). We’d like to be able to control what’s there better.

Other items I need help with:

1. Where on the admin side can I change the descriptions of the Mass Schedule, Bulletin, Donations and Join Parish buttons? I need to edit a couple of those. I remember seeing it during the tutorial, but can’t find it now.

1. How do I add contributors and reset passwords for people? That will be something I’ll need to do.

1. Posts: we want to increase the number of posts shown on the news & events page so readers don’t have to click “older posts” so often.

1. Posts: we don’t want the date to show up under the title of the post on the news & events page. I thought we had taken this off before. To the reader, it looks like the event date is the post date when it wasn’t. And I have to fudge the post date to get things to show up on the home page so they are not accurate.

1. We would like to decrease the white space between the title on the page and the content.

I would like to launch next week. Can we get these things taken care of by Monday?

Best,
Beth McTighe
TO THE CLIENT Gary Smith, Web Department Director at Diocesan
Beth,

  • Michael did actually add the Google Analytics code already.
  • It took a few heads but we did figure out the issue for Saturdays not always showing all of the events, and that is resolved. If you don't see it right away, try a hard refresh.
  • I will have a staff member call you to show you how to change the related pages navigation, changing button descriptions and adding a user. Would you be available Monday? If so when?
  • Michael is changing the number of posts to 20, the max allowed.
  • Michael is removing the date on the post
  • The space between the title and content is actually fixed. It would take some development time to edit the post page and change that.

Great to hear a lot of the items are finished. I’ll be available for a phone call Monday between 12:30 and 2pm. Thanks so much.

Hi Michael,
Can you tell me what the next step is to redirecting allsaints.us to allsaintsdunwoody.org? This weekend is Easter and we’ll have a lot of eyeballs on our site. Can we make this happen tomorrow?
Thanks,
Beth McTighe
TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
Beth,

I had been out sick the first part of the week, with regards to redirecting allsaints.us (http://allsaints.us) to allsaintsdunwoody.org (http://allsaintsdunwoody.org) you will need to have the domain point to our servers to match allsaintsdunwoody.org (http://allsaintsdunwoody.org). On my end I will add .us as an alias so that it will redirect to .org.
TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
You will need to make the following changes to your domain name host records:

Change the www and @ Host records to be A Name types that point to: 66.232.99.21

These will be found under Host Records and not DNS Server settings.
The industry standard is to say these changes can take up to 24 hours to propagate.
However, it's been my experience that you can usually see these changes within 2 hours.

I’m getting a message that the website is blocked due to security issues. Is there something we can do to prevent this from happening?

TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
Hello Beth,

Where you have the url redirect, make it match the @ address below it by setting it to an A type and the ip 66.232.99.21. Our server should be able to handle the traffic to the appropriate page.

-Michael
TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
replace the domain allsaintsdunwoody.org (http://allsaintsdunwoody.org) with 66.232.99.21
FROM THE CLIENT Beth McTighe, Marketing & Communications Director at All Saints Staff
This? I’m still getting a security block when I type allsaints.us into a browser. It’s fine if I use an incognito browser.

TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
the very first row should match the second row.
TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
The record type for the first row should be A type, and the address should be 66.232.99.21

Excellent. It finally works. Thank you!
Beth

Glad to hear it is working properly, let me know if there's anything else I can do.

Hi Michael,
Our website has gone from thousands of hits to hundreds and I received this message from Google Analytics:

Increase in “404” pages on http://www.allsaints.us/

To: Webmaster of http://www.allsaints.us/,

Googlebot identified a significant increase in the number of URLs on http://www.allsaints.us/ that return a 404 (not found) error. This can be a sign of an outage or misconfiguration, which would be a bad user experience. This will result in Google dropping those URLs from the search results. If these URLs don't exist at all, no action is necessary.

Does the drop in hits have anything to do with the 404 errors? It looks like we have had about 480 crawl errors. Is there anything we should do about this? One idea I had was to add links to the 404 error page, but I can’t find that page in my list. Do you maintain that page?

I thought something like:

Sorry, we couldn’t find the page you were looking for.

Firstly, ensure that all of your posts and pages are "published" and available for viewing. Secondly, all of these links have the > symbol at the end which is breaking them. Removing the > symbol allows me to access all of these pages
FROM THE CLIENT Beth McTighe, Marketing & Communications Director at All Saints Staff
How do I find those links that have the > symbol and how is that being added?

TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
The page you've specified is in fact the 404 page, it seems to me like perhaps what's happening is there are links elsewhere on the internet that link directly to a specific allsaints.us (http://allsaints.us) page. Since the domain redirects to allsaintsdunwoody.org (http://allsaintsdunwoody.org) those pages on the previous site might have had a different file structure and as such will be broken. There really isn't much we can do on our end as far as changing the crawler's behavior. Maybe see if you can track down some of the external links to allsaints.us (http://allsaints.us)
FROM THE CLIENT Beth McTighe, Marketing & Communications Director at All Saints Staff
Okay. It also references an old site map built in 2014 on allsaints.us. I’m reading up on that, but let me know if you have any Cliff’s notes on building a new site map as I have not done that before.
Thanks,
Beth
TO THE CLIENT Michael Clark
The 404 page is built into the theme and is not editable from the dashboard.

Okay. Thanks.

Hi Michael,
We would really like an option to make a page or post inactive after it has been published. It is very efficient for us to use a page or post for an annual event and then make the page a draft after the event is over. The following year we can just update the details and publish it again. Do you know of a way we can do this on our new page?
Thanks,
Beth McTighe
TO THE CLIENT Veronica Alvarado, Project Manager at Diocesan

Good Morning Beth,

You should be able to simply change the Visibility from "Public" to "Private" when editing the page. Any private pages will be visible to anyone that is logged in (editors and administrators), but will not be visible to visitors of the website. One thing to be aware of is that if a private page is linked or in the menu, it will bring up a 404 Page Not Found error for any visitors.

This should be a solution to what you mentioned.

Veronica Alvarado
