Content Strategy & Sitemaps
Good afternoon Everyone,
I hope you have been doing well since you last spoke with Veronica!
My name is Cody Armock and my role here in Diocesan's web department is as a content specialist. This means, that in addition to going over what areas of your current website are staying or going, I also help you find the most effective way to layout your website. I will be helping you in this process from now until the training before the launch of the site.
This not only helps us build you a website that is easier to edit and manage but also allows anyone visiting your website to accurately and consistently find the information for which they are looking.
Thinking about content before the design is important because it will make the design process easier and tailor it better to your needs. It is similar to building a house. Content strategy is figuring out how many bedrooms and square footage you need when picking floorplans. The design process is the customizing of the space (walls, flooring, exterior, colonial vs modern style, etc.). Content migration/creation is the filling of your rooms with furniture and your possessions. Without the content strategy process, the house may not suit your needs.
Below are links to Google documents of your current and proposed sitemap. The current sitemap shows your current site's menu structure and flow. The proposed sitemap is what we suggest for your menu based on our previous experience and what would work best in terms of usability. The proposed sitemap is created to optimize the flow and look of your site.
You can edit the proposed sitemap however you would like, adding pages, removing pages, etc. The proposed sitemap will act as a guide for the content migration process. Please edit the document directly to ensure that the same edits stay throughout all versions and that the content migration process is accurate.
Sitemaps
Once you approve the suggested sitemap, we will be ready for the design process. A designer will reach out to you to begin the design process when they complete their current project and we have received the final version of the suggested sitemap.
Thank you for choosing Diocesan and we are very excited to work with you on creating a new website for you and the people of All Saints Church.
Let me know if you have any questions,

Good Morning Cody,
Thank you for sending over the proposed layout. I have a question in regards to where the “Stay Connected” Icons would be located.
Thank you,
Kristin

Hello Kristin,
Normally, most websites today, have a section, usually in the footer, that have their social medias linked, that is what the Stay Connected section would be. This sitemap is, of course, just a guide and may change based on the design process.
On your current site, the Stay Connected Section is in the top right of the site next to the search.
You can talk with Danae about the design of the site and where those icons can be. I just wanted to make sure to include them in the sitemap, so that I migrate those links.
I hope that helps to clarify!

Thank you for the explanation Cody. I understand now.
Just an FYI, now that the business side of things has been taken care of, Carolyn, our business manager, does not have to be cc’d in the design process. Anything to do with the financial aspects, however, she will need to be made aware of.

Okay,
Thank you for that clarification, Kristin! I have made a note of that.

Good Afternoon Kristin,
I was wondering if the Proposed Sitemap was approved. The site should be ready for content tomorrow and I will be able to start on it then, but before I can start adding content, I need to know that the Proposed Sitemap has been approved officially.

Good Morning Kristin,
I just wanted to follow up with you to see how the proposed sitemap was coming along and just don't want things slipping through the cracks. I know with Holy Week coming up next week that things can very easily get quite hectic at the parish, but just let me know if I can help at all.
Thank you and let me know when it is approved!

Good Morning Kristin,
I had a quick question while going through the sitemap and starting content. For the bulletins, how many did you want to show on the new site. I would recommend not including a whole year's worth of them as the vast majority of users just want the most current or within the past couple of weeks (at most).
The majority of churches that we do websites for have the most current bulletin and anywhere from 5-8 past bulletins.
Just let me know how you'd like to proceed and I can go from there.
Thank you,
Cody Armock

Hi Cody,
After speaking with Fr. Scott, we decided that having the current bulletin, and 5 back issues would be plenty.
Thank you,
Kristin
